One family's nightmare
We can bring you for the first time this morning the details of an extraordinary case involving a family from Derbyshire and their battle with Derbyshire social services.
Three years ago a father in this family was accused of sexual abuse by his own 21-year-old daughter. The young woman told her boyfriend her dad had abused her since she was 12. She then told her parents she'd lied to her boyfriend.
The father was investigated by the police and charged. After being tried in a criminal court, a jury cleared him of all charges.
Despite that, social services didn't want him to continue living at the family home with his daughter and her three younger sisters.
I've recorded an interview with his wife and the mother of the four girls. She has chosen to speak to this programme about their experiences. We're calling her Christine, not her real name, and her words are spoken for her to protect the family's identity. She explained how the allegations came about:

I listened to this. I think the lack of comments on this page says it all.

hey, they say the truth hurts but they say the truth will ALWAYS previail.
I have no doubt that this lady and hub are innocent. Having worked within the SS environment (but I hasten to add not as a SW...never) I am fully aware of the tricks of the trade, the stuff kids can say to get their own way and certainly the unjust force and power of Local Authorities, who will never, never....NEVER retract or admit they are or were wrong.
As they say....only the truth will set them free!!!!

Other organisations, be they government run or private companies, are accountable for their actions and practices. However it seems that social services are exempt AND they don't even follow their own complaints procedures.
Also exactly what training do social workers get? It's our experience they can make sweeping assumptions, diagnose very complicated issues or assess someone's personality, parenting ability and family dynamics with just an hour's interview or less, without having any previous experience of the family or history of the case and solely relying on personal statements or how the interviewee comes across. I doubt the most experienced psychologist or psychiatrist could claim to do this!
If Social Services won't address their failings, then it's inevitable that there will only be more tragedies and more bad press for them. As the previous commentator said “The truth will out !”
