What has devolution done for you?

Well, the great experiment seems to have not yet brought the Union crashing to the floor to shatter into it's component parts, despite Salmond banging on about independence left, right and sideways.
Just remember; united we stand, divided we fall.
On a lighter note, devolution as far as the R5L messageboard goes, seems to have been altogether divisive, with entrenched views and cross-border sniping on a daily basis!
Back to Salmond; "Scots have a greater sense of their identity," he says, and they can assert that more. That's all jolly nice but it's also the bit that grates; I have a strong sense of my English identity but any attempt to assert it is suppressed by various means, whether it's a straight cry of "Racism!" or a subtle comment by a "source close to Downing Street." It's alright for our Celtic brethren; they don't have to put up with that sort of rhubarb anymore!

Nice to hear even more scottish voices on 5live.
They have ruined the uk parliament ,the economy and the banks .....so lets celebrate devolution.

Salmond always causes an extreme reaction in me; a reaction of complete revulsion.
This oleaginous, self-absorbed chancer cares only for himself and his "place" in (Scottish) history.
He knows that the majority of Scots do not share his obsession for independence; and would it benefit Scotland anyway? It would only then be subsumed into Europe and would be more impotent than it is now.
Also - both Balls and Brown now called "liars" yesterday. Am glad that the media is beginning to tell it like it is rather than pussyfooting around using words like "porkies"; "untruths" etc.

Victoria,
there are far more people like Ben from Tottenham who think that he is right.
It is time for the end of the Union, thereis no longer any point in it. If a Martian came to Britain and said what structure for government do you have he would laugh. You mean England, which is the dominant part in the partnership, does not have a parliament, yet all the other bits do.
You mean the English pay Scotland a whole wadge of money, and the English don't mind at all. That you have Queen Elizabeth the Second, who is Queen Elizabeth the first of Scotland, and she is married a Greek as well. Is her husband a king then, no because he isn't he is only a Duke. Oh and where is he a Duke of, England? No, don't be silly he the Duke of Edinburgh. I could go on but what is the point, end the Union, have an English parliament, but keep the oil, what's left of it anyway.

Isn't this all a little over the top by 5live or is it BBC doing it's bit again for minorities.
Did I hear Salmond in his speech say anything about Sir Fred Goodwin ??
Nah.

What do the people of Scotland do to cope with the heat? Your news item gave out a number for the NHS in England, but as I'm sure everyone knows, the NHS in Scotland is a separate organisation and has different services.

What do they do to cope with the heat? What heat? It's drizzling in Edinburgh (as usual).

Alex Salmond appears to have a tennis ball hovering by his left cheek. Is this some sort of obscure Scottish way of showing support for Andy Murray today?

Boring and predictable. Nothing at all new in the programme from its contributors north of the border. And even more talking over each other which is so annoying.

It's sweltering in Inverness

It's sunny in Edinburgh too - that was my typo. I meant it was drizzling in (parts of) Scotland (as stated on the weather bulletins on 5 Live today).

Victoria did say it was drizzling on her at one point today. Mind you it was drizzling on me yesterday and when it is 31 C it soon dried.

The point is that the BBC continually ignore the fact that services are devolved and when making public announcements, should give out all of the contact numbers, not just the English ones.
