Epic music review
Victoria will be joined by two up and coming artists in the music review this week. Daniel Merriweather is music producer Mark Ronson's latest protegee. You'll probably know him best for his version of the Smiths Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before. On Monday he'll tell Victoria about his latest album Love and War and how just four years ago he was busking on the streets of Melbourne. Someone else who's turned her life around is South London hip hop artist Speech Debelle. One review sums up her album, Speech Therapy, as "a raw insight into what happens to teens in society left to fend for themselves, but it's no meditated sob story".
Plus: we'll review new singles from American dance-rock band Hockey and American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, whose last single My Life Would Suck Without You went to number 1 in March.

I'd hardly be pleased if I was Daniel Merriweather, and saw myself described by Louisa Compton as 'up and coming' when I have most definitely been there for quite a while!

As you invite comments on your blog about your programme, i would like to say in the strongest terms that you all at Five Live are adding to this Susan Boyle tragedy by almost constantly featuring it on every single programme apart from Sportsweek probably, since the final was over.
Could you please just stop. Instead of blaming the written media, could you take some of the blame? YOU are also the media and your incessant mulling over this woman's learning difficulties, solitary homelife, her small village experience, and so on, on every programme, is just so tedious.

As for this dire music review section it's like......
' We are now going to play a segment of each song on the album in the space of ten seconds so you make up your mind.......'
It's like fast food for the brain and it is impossible to make a judgement.

Carrie is absolutely right, Victoria. You also demean yourself by your prurient interest in this sad story. Also, why is the drivel that you like to call a music review on Radio Five? Why don't you apply for a job on Radio One or Two and leave Radio Five for 'news and sport', it's true remit. Now that school half-term is over, who do you think is at home listening to the radio during the day?

I didn't like Daniel Merriweather on Jools Hollands proper music show. I don't like him on 5 live and who are the target audience for the hip/hop type stuff because I bet they aren't listening to 5 live.

I love his voice and I watched him at Glastonbury on the Ronson set. However I still know more about him than was exposed on that review with Vicki and the fawning Colin. I was going to buy the album anyway because "Impossible" has got to be one of the best tracks I have heard him sing since "Stop me".

Emailed the show today as to why Victoria extols the virtues of posting on this very blog yet never uses any of the posts in the music review section.
The cynical side of me thinks this maybe because the vast majority ( ie; all ) have been anything but complimentary about this abysmal section of the show.
God forbid that the Beeb should resort to censorship whilst plugging its latest podcast.

Yesterdays (15th June) appeared to feature what sounded like an 11 year old 'singer' with a daft name and a host of people are trying desperately to be cool. It was very sad.
