Snobbery is alive and well in Britain in 2008 - says Jordan

Victoria Derbyshire | 08:13 AM, Friday, 1 August 2008

Katie Price fights back in The Times today after being banned from attending the Cartier Polo International. She ponders why she wasn't allowed to go - when she's a successful businesswoman who loves horses. "It's pure snobbery" she says. "No-one should be excluded". Is she right? Have you come across examples of snobbery recently?

Hi Victoria, ive been a season ticket holder at Plymouth Argyle for the last 5 years up until this season. Prioritys have had to change. £400 may not seem alot compared to Man U and Arsenal prices, but here in the south west wages are very low in comparison to alot of the uk. I will continue to support my local team, but the matches i attend will be few and far between. The match day tickets have also been put up in price. As a footnote, Plymouth has a succesfull Basketball team. Its a great night out for half the price...
    Great Show, Matt (Nr Plymouth,Devon)

As a mini-cab driver in Central London i find that most of the rude, brash or vulgar customers tend to be ''new money''. This is a widely held view and would probably have influenced the Polo event organisers decision when it came to the sort of guests they would prefer. Her ''do you know who i am?!'' behaviour in making her situation public has shown her to be vulgar at the very least. If it is her goal to become an accepted part of the establishment, she has probably made a bad start.

I loved the definition of snobbery this morning on the show along the lines of someone who doesn't make someone else, from whatever background, feel uncomfortable in their company. And one of the other guests in the studio agreed, pointing out the example of the Queen, 'who makes everyone feel comfortable.' Oh God! Where do these people come from. The whole dynamic of any meetings between Royalty and their staff, subjects etc., is one of fawning obsequiousness.

The Queen, as the head of the Royal family, is the pinnacle of the peculiarly snobbish class system that pervades the UK with such destructive consequences, imho.

Chavs are not allowed into polo events hosted by the rich, its as simple as that. Jordan or any other chav for that matter cannot simply put on a polo top and expect to be allowed to mingle with the upper-classes. Nobody gets to mingle with the rich upper-classes except for the rich upper-classes. Jordon might be quite rich as a result of getting her breats out and having a massive following of ITV reality TV watching morons but she is a chav so she isn't allowed into the polo. It doesn't suprise me she hasn't quite grasped this but it really is quite simple. Of course snobbery is alive and well in Britain it always has been but a Chav not getting into a polo match is a ridiculous example to use.

Why are we so surprised at this news.

Jordan's money is not good enough for their charity because they know they will fill the tables anyway.

Katie Price should select her donations more wisely and give to more enlightened people.

Power to you Ms. Price you are twice the horsewoman that most of those effete polo jocks are.

Remember the Polo people used to Laud and Honour Kerry Packer. The Aussie toady that once was a good example of what being obnoxious was all about.

Stay away from Polo and stick with honest to goodness charities and events.

Who decides who is a chav anyway?
