Georgia Davies is 15 years old and weighs 33 stone

Victoria Derbyshire | 07:51 AM, Friday, 1 August 2008

When I walked into my local shop this morning and scanned all the newspapers' front pages, I was taken aback. I think I actually said out loud "Oh my god". It was because of a photograph of a teenager filling most of the front page of The Sun - she weighs 33 stone. The story of Georgia from South Wales is extremely sad. She says she turned to food to comfort herself when her father died when she was 5 years of age. Doctors have told her she could die at any time...which is why she's going to the Wellspring Academy in the US to help shed weight and change her outlook on life. In her interview with The Sun she says she's addicted to food in the way some people are addicted to alcohol or drugs.

I've every sympathy for Georgia and wish her well, but it seems she's addicted to empty-carby crap rather than "food". Maybe if she chose (or her parents fed her) real food with some nutrition in it she would eat less (try overeating salmon, broccoli and orange to the same extent). It seems there's so little nutrition in what she's eating the poor girl's body is forcing her to eat more in the vain hope of getting what it needs - which ISN'T sugar but proteins, vitamins and essential fats.

If Georgina identifies her food addiction as being comparable to drug addiction then presumably she's addicted to drugs as well?
