TRACKLISTING. MONDAY 19/12/2011
Ahead of Tom playing his favourite picks from the Introducing archive next week, we’ve got one last normal show of 2011 to bring you. However, ‘normal’ is a word we like to avoid at Introducing, given that it is often conjunctive with dullness and drudgery- exactly the opposite of what we offer on Fresh On The Net.
So that’s why on tonight’s show you’ll hear an array of weird and wonderful sounds, right through from Crash & The Bandicoots’ twisted electro-pop on ‘Emily’ to Mount Fabric’s impressive proggy adventurism on ‘Squelettes’.
Taking the biscuit tonight though has to be Mishaped Pearls, who bring a swooning piece of mythical escapism to the table in ‘Creature Of Compromise’, with verses sung in medieval Italian by the beguiling voice of Manuela Schütte.
As esoteric a mix as you’re likely to find on the radio in tonight’s show then- where else are you going to hear a track featuring medieval Italian next to the positively hyper-active Dub Sharma remix of Dhanush’s ‘Why This Kolaveri Di’? (Props to the unfailing brain of Asian Network’s Bobby Friction for recommending that to us).
Other tracks for your gratification include ‘Timber! Timber!’ from Midnight Mile, which inspires equal amounts of joy and despair in our hearts– joy because it’s a superbly strong song but despair because it heralds a, hopefully brief, break in the band’s activities.
Elsewhere there’s ‘Drunk Wine Bluff’, a vintage offering from The Good Rebels, a band out of LA who know exactly how to pillage the classic British rock canon in all the right ways.
And ‘Jellyfish’ a typically irresistible piece of fuzz-drenched garage rock from the Glaswegian three-piece Paws- you can practically smell the sweaty room in which it was no doubt created coming through the speakers. Delicious.
Don’t forget you can catch up on iPlayer via the links on our home page, as well as subscribe to our podcast to get an albums worth of tracks from this weekend’s two terrific shows.
