The Marvellous, Magical, Mad Football League Tour - part II

Post categories:

Tom Fordyce | 09:02 UK time, Friday, 7 August 2009

A little while ago, my regular travelling compadre Ben Dirs and I appealed for info, assistance and tips for Stop Two on our MMMFLT - Colchester.

And now, with the new season upon us like an express train, we can reveal our findings.

Ipswich fans - try to be charitable. Fans of comic timing and smooth presentation - this may not be for you. Everyone else - get stuck in and enjoy, and let us know what you think.

And more importantly, which club we should go to next...

Professor Techno, the BBC's purpose is not to make sense. As the writer Rebecca West once said, "Journalism is the ability to meet the challenge of filling space." The MMMFL Tour is a perfect example of this. Unfortunately they use licence fee payers' money to do it.

With regards to where you should go next, Mr. Fordyce, I suggest you try hitch-hiking to the dwarf planet Eris. It is quite a few billion miles away, so best pack some sandwiches and a change of socks. Bon voyage!

Rivalry with Ipswich? What about us lot down the A12? Hope you enjoyed meeting their new "fans" outside the stadium ;o) - we certainly enjoyed our first visit to Cuckoo Farm last year...who put the ball in the Col U net, Francky Moussa did!

Suggest if you want to meet some decent mascots you come along to Southend, Sammy is a legend!

Well Mr. Firefly, your alter ego, Julius Henry Marx once said, "I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book."

Hoist with your own petard I reckon.

I was never a "Thatcherite" (notice the capital "T" by the way), but I am most definitely a "Yorkshireman". We are born with a built-in bull-plop detector you see, and it serves us very well.

Oh deary me boys. Tom and Ben, you make me laugh out loud on a regular basis with your ball-by-ball text commentaries on the cricket. The current ashes series in particular has seen you at your quick-witted, punning best, however this pile of ill-conceived, stuttering, port-a-loo bilge is enough to make a 15 year old media studies student weep. I don't blame you really, you were only doing your best in an unfamiliar medium, but your producer should be tarred, feathered and horse-whipped out of town for such an offence to football, comedy and the BBC license payers.

Well that was extraordinarily embarrassing. It seemed like a vehicle for two halfwits to get their fifteen minutes of fame. Good lord, I wonder who on earth employs you chaps.

A nice thought would be speaking to players/ manager/ showing the town of the club/ doing something vaguely amusing. Not dress up as something that isn't even the club's mascot and rearrange counters on a white board. For your sake I hope the next club you visit hasn't had a look at this video- they may well have to lock the club gates before you arrive.

I'll put it down to it being the first one - but that was awful. Too much of Ben & Tom, not enough about the club in question.
I think the ten facts about Colchester United summed it up...there were only eight.

    Tom and Ben,

I hold you directly responsible for Norwich's capitulation against Colchester. Or rather, I hold you responsible for motivating Colchester. It would only be fair if your next trip was to visit the Canaries, the destroyers of Bayern Munich.

What could be better? Exotic yellow birds, a cook who has taught the world how to cheat at cooking, a Norman cathedral, the home of Alan Partridge, Mike Bassett and Tim Westwood. And frankly, the team need a pick-me-up. Go to Carrow Road.
