Moyes to stay but no Toffees takeover yet
All this talk of Indian businessman Anil Ambani being interested in buying Everton seems very wide of the mark.
Speculation suggested that a member of the Ambani family, possibly Anils's son, would be at the club's Uefa Cup match against Standard Liege on Thursday, but my Everton sources tell me that is just not the case. Bill Kenwright, the Everton chairman, did receive a call from someone claiming to be an intermediary but nothing came of it.
Everton need a buyer but the man who could buy the Toffees out of his petty cash would be British billionaire Sir Philip Green.
However, Green, for all his love for the game and Tottenham in particular, not to mention his closeness to Kenwright, has never seen himself as a football investor.
The good news for Everton fans is that manager David Moyes may soon be putting pen to paper on a new contract that will take him to 2013. The contract talks have been going on for months with some speculation that Moyes may leave amid much talk of Everton needing to show ambition. This is football speak for buying players - fans always interpret any talk of ambition in that way. However, as football insiders will tell you, such talk is really a call for the board to increase the wages of the staff it already employs.
I am told Everton has sufficient ambition to tempt Moyes to stay on. The 45-year-old Scot, who is paid around £1.5m a year, will get around £3.5m a year under the terms of his new contract, a rise of more than 100% although short of the £4.5m he was believed to have been aiming for. Not a bad pay increase in these hard times from a club that needs investment, although, such has been his impact on the blue half of Stanley Park, Everton fans will feel Moyes deserves every penny.
And the former Preston manager must still be in the running for a Wayne Rooney-style move to Old Trafford when Sir Alex Ferguson, the great man of Manchester United, finally calls it a day.
It is hoped Moyes will put pen to paper before the first Merseyside rivals derby of the season at Goodison Park on 27 September.

not got alot to say about everton really, posting this mainly to be the first person to post on a blog for once.
would be good to see everton get the backing they need. They have way they have competed over the last few years on a small budget has been admirable so it would be interesting to see what moyes could do with a bigger budget.
Probably better than some of the other clubs which have had the financial clout over the last couple of seasons...erm spurs for example...

There are only 6/7 jobs in this country (including Scotland) which are clearly more attractive than Everton and none of them are likely to have a vacancy any time soon.
Moyes has done the right thing for himself and Everton, and I say that as a neutral observer.

Hopefully Moyes will sign this deal, it has been going on for months, as the OP says, but with the transfer windows in place, there can be no "ambition" shown until January at the earliest. Our season will be shaped with the performances of the current players and staff. So hopefully the signing of his contract will enable everyone to move forward together into the new season.

Nothing to say about Everton really, just writing this to be 10th on the comments list. everton = boring, me = boring, bobbie flowers = sychronised swimming.

Nor sure if ambition really means pay rises. David Moyes and Everton fans alike would probably tell you that it may have something to do with actually being in the position to improve as a team and compete in the transfer market with other clubs in the league.
If, as you claim, he is the sort of character suited to the Man United post, i imagine he's got a fair bit more on his mind than just lining his own pockets - when Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger talk about ambition, I would clearly see that as referring to trophies. It's a pretty cynical view and one that I'm sure not all Managers and players subscribe to.
You don't get to the top by just chasing the next dollar and, if that were the case, it would be a pretty short sighted approach. If he can achieve great things with Everton and take the United role in the future, the money will come. For now, I think his main motivation would be to try and win some trophies and build his career and reputation as a Manager. We all know how quickly those reputations can disappear in this game.

What a totally pointless waste of your time Mihir!
An article full of nothing.

I can't believe that writing articles like this is your job. The cat could have written something with more content.

Erm...I think you'll find that's Mihir's 'journalistic' style; that and the fact that it's a pretty slow news week allround.

What a weird club.

So, to paraphrase:
no-one known to be interested in buying Everton, Moyes may sign a new contract at some point, and he may manage Man U one day.
Here's a blog about my club.
I don't know anyone who wants to buy Bristol City. Gary Johnson might sign a new contract at some point. He may go on to manage a bigger club too.
And David Moyes used to play for them.
Somebody pay me.

"Moyes...must still be in the running for a Wayne Rooney-style move to Old Trafford..."
What? How would Moyes going to United be anything like Rooney's transfer? Did Wayne replace an retiring giant of the game? Do you even know what putting '-style' on the end of a name actually means?
I am absolutely stunned at how awful this blog is. No humour, no facts, nothing of interest and absolutely no substance. You may as well have written one line: Moyes' salary increases from £1.5m to £3.5m. That was the only bit of real information on offer.
Too dry and too shallow.

emm... maybe because moyes would be moving from everton to man u, just like a certain wayne rooney.
also this is a blog - not a news update - which is probably why there's no news. if you want news why dont you read the news section

I don't believe that Moyes is motivated by money.
Let's not forget that he's had a contract on the table for months with £30,000 more per week. He didn't sign it and it can't be back dated.

aconlon - Feed The Yak...
Clearly you don't understand what it means when you put '-style' after a name. It implies that there are a distinct set of similarities between the two events. For example, if someone were to score a swerving free-kick 'Roberto Carlos-style', they would be doing it in similar fashion. Simply scoring a free kick doesn't make it 'Roberto Carlos-style'.
As for the 'it's a blog' comment - are you serious? Yes, on the BBC website, the Sports Editor shouldn't have anything of informational value in his blog.
Jog on.

Pretty tepid stuff. A blog should either inform or express an opinion. This does neither.

djconnell, how can you say there's no information in this post? The notion that Manchester United might appoint a manager who has zero experience of the Champions League proper is certainly news to me.

Didn't Chelsea just do that so i dont see why it would be a problem for Man Utd.

Mihir - way off your usual standard, this article offers nothing that hasn't been said in other 'Everton news' stories on the BBC web over the last 10 days.
The Wayne Rooney comment is very sloppy and doubtful and the rumour oabout Ambani is as reliable as something off a supporters forum.
I was impressed to see a blog on Everton, in the end I got nothing. Sort it out.

Moyes is arguably the best manager in the premiership given his budget and the team he inherited.
Moyes together with the players is the one of the many factors that could attract investment into the club. Unfortunately though the biggest turn off is the real estate assets. If the planning permission comes through for the much needed stadium then investment will follow, as we will have bigger assets.
If the government fails to grant the scheme the go ahead. Everton 'could' turn into another Leeds United, high wage bills and a chairman..... who whilst wanting the best for the club, cannot keep up the debt repayments and also invest in players at the same time.
Good news about Moyes about to sign a new contract. Now lets see the same effort used to lobby MPs and also find investment which would benefit both Everton FC and Kirkby/Merseyside.

Its a blog and not a news report as someone said.
Cant see Moyes to Manchester United though, and seems unlikely anyway.
Mihir, in all fairness, some of the stick you get is warranted when you post blogs with a lack of ....... what's the word or phrase im looking for someone......?????
Anyway, would like to see Everton get the investment as they do deserve it in my humble opinion.

Moyes has done amazing well to keep Everton where they are, when you think of the kind of resources he has had compared with the likes of Man U£d and Chel$ki.
People who really know football appreciate what he has achieved.
