Eating my words

Mark Devenport | 15:33 UK time, Tuesday, 1 September 2009

Last week I suggested local politicians may have left it too late to seek compensation from Libya. Today the Independent reports from Tripoli that there may be some movement on the matter. If so I shall be more than happy to eat my words.

DONALDSON GRANDSTANDING ON COMPENSATION FOR VICTIMS

There isn't an earthly chance that Libya will provide compensation for victims of the IRA. You know it, I know it, and my cat knows it. The Libya compensation issue is just another vehicle for Donaldson to portray himself as the Victims' Champion for political gain ahead of the General Election rather than genuine concern for those who suffered at the hands of the Provos.

Donaldson conveniently chooses to ignore that many current Sinn Féin members had/have dual IRA membership. Why isn't he seeking compensation from Sinn Féin who, as Blair pointed out were "inextricably linked to the IRA"?

Now that would be a principled stand to take on behalf of victims. But as we all know, Donaldson and his Party have ditched their principles (if they ever had any) to preserve the DUP/Sinn Féin Fascist dictatorship in the Stormont Reichstag.
