Poots - il ne regrette rien
Just finished editing a profile piece on Edwin Poots for radio and television - should be airing on Monday. As part of the research I dug into our archives and found a piece of footage from 1997 - Gerry Adams's first appearance on BBC Question Time. Yes that was controversial back then. And a young Edwin Poots marched onto the stage to protest. He was quickly escorted off the stage as Mr Adams dismissed his attack as a "DUP stunt". When I reminded the new Stormont Environment minister of the incident, he declared: "That is something I have no regrets about. So I have been thrown out of the BBC - but I've been thrown out of better places than the BBC."
Surely not - such as???

How times have changed. Accorging to the Information Commissioners website Gerry Adams MP MLA is registered with them as a Data Controller and his registration number is Z6867510. On the othe hand there is currently no record shown for Edwin Poots MLA.
Is this an example of a Stormont Minister cocking a snoop at the law or an example of the Information Commissioners offices failure to enforce part of the Data Protection legislation in regard to notification by Data Controllers?
Of course if Edwin is in full compliance he could of course post details of his Registration Number on this blog. I assume he and one other senior DUP colleague are fully aware of the penalty for failing to register as a Data Controller.

bushmill_1608,
I have heard a reputable source confirm your suspicions that certain DUP ministers have indeed failed to comply with the necessary Data Protection legislation.

....and worse still the Information Commissioners Office and the Assembly Authorities are almost certainly fully aware of the issue of non-registration but are choosing to ignore this blatant breach of the Data Protection legislation.
Yet another example of elected representatives appearing to feel they are abovr the law ...!!
