The New Force Party
The Ulster Unionists are reaching a decision making point in their courtship with the Tories. The deal appears to be 95% complete and Jim Nicholson is set to become the first joint candidate in next year's European election. But they are stuck over what to call their new political force. You need a name to stand a candidate and to take your place on the Electoral Commission's register of local parties. At the time of the Tory conference in Birmingham someone told me it would be the "Conservative and Unionist Council". But now it seems the UUP want "Ulster" in the name. Any other suggestions out there?

NEW POLITICAL FORCE MAKES FIRST MISTAKE
What on earth is Sir Reg thinking about putting Jim Nicholson on the EU ticket again? His tenure to date has been a well-rewarded period of non-achievement. Alan McFarland or Basil McCrea would be a much better candidate.
Anyway, with Jim Nicholson being the candidate, I think a suitable name for this new political force would be: COUNCIL OF CONSERVATIVE & UNIONIST PARTIES (COC-UP).

Let's hope that soon after I post this a step will have been taken that will change the future of Northern Ireland.
One that can help bring to an end the sectarian hate fest that is so beloved by the DUP and SF is the only reason for their existence.
Politics that for the first time in Northern Ireland is not tainted by anything except a desire to improve the lives of EVERYONE regardless of creed, nationality or colour.

Yes Susie, very good.
I almost said so after Stormontspy, but that would have been 3 compliments in a row.
The last thing we need is you getting delirious.

The UUUP have finally come out off the closet as the Conservitives that they always were.
No one really cares about names However a good name would be the cup party as long as it is a china cup and not a mug.
us members off the public are the mugs for continuing to elect them 7 pillars is right when he/she says that we need people who will repersent thr whole population However i will not hold me breath Good luck i say to David Empy and Sir Reg Cameron

The media seemed to have missed the important point about this Conservative and Unionist deal.
This potentially offers people in NI to become fully involved in national politics.
More importantly it will be a complete contrast with the DUP/SF stitch at Stormont.

This is good news. NI finally has a say again in National Politics after a generation on the fringe.

this is the start of normal politics instead of the current negative tribal goings on that only hurts the people of this province

So has the UUP decided that Westminster is more important than Stormont? I fail to see how joining with the Conservatives will help the party to increase its overall support among the electorate. Reg needs to concentrate on working at local level, building the party up again in Councils, then the Assembly. Or is he hoping to follow in Lord Trimble's footsteps and order the ermine robes??

It would appear Reggie got into bed largely on this promise of a UUP post in the Cabinet in any Tory Government.
That relies on a couple of things
1)The tories getting into Government - still likely but the poll figures just aren't as rosy as they once were
2) The UUs having someone to put into the post - just as well they've got Lords to pick from as they mightn't have an MP to take the post up!
Not sure why there seems to be the belief that this is some bright new dawn for the UUP though. Maybe if the Tories were going to send over a few fresh candidates they might have a chance. After all, its still going to be the same rubbish candidates, with largely the same rubbish policies (well they either keep the current rubbish policies or adopt tory policies of scrapping academic selection etc...).
Reggie and his band of hasbeens are still fairly unelectable no-matter what rosette they happen to be wearing.

This is a new political grouping ie The Ulster Unionists will take the Tory whip at UK and EEC levels initially. Stormont cannot solve the economic crisis we have been put in by Gordon Brown. It has no say in fiscal policy, defence,Foreign and Commonwealth,UK Energy, Banking and Financial, Pensoins,Trade,The Justice System,The Privy Council,UK Wide Culture and Sport,Transport ie Maritime, Aviation et al., Childrens Legislation, Equal Opportunities, Race Relations, Home Affairs, HM Prisons. etc. etc. I want my party to have first class representatives with single mandates at all levels of Government .Especially at Westminster which the true cockpit of power is in The Commons. We also need to recruit and put forward Altruistic Candidates who are truly righteously indignant at the present state of our country, particularly in Social Justice Areas. We will not require self aggrandising and self enriching power crazed control freaks. We want candidates who are best equipped to work for all of their constituents in a Secular Modern Northern Ireland,

Well that rules out the entire UUP and the Conservatives then. Are you nominating Jim Allister?
