An end to the optimism?
Stormontspy told me off yesterday for reflecting a sense of optimism. Today it looks like normal service has been resumed with the Assembly and Executive Review Committee failing to meet, and Ian Paisley Jr. and John O'Dowd tearing strips off each other over what their two parties did or did not agree on devolving policing and justice.
We talked to David Simpson about his plans for a commemoration of the 1859 evangelical revival, which according to the Oxford Companion to Irish History involved a great deal of fervour including visions, prophecies and stigmata. I'm not sure that anything like that is scheduled for next year, but asked about the chances of the Executive being revived anytime soon, the Upper Bann MP told us he did believe in miracles.

Stigmata? Surely an evangelical Protestant isn't going to commemorate that?
Does he know this went on in 1859?
Watch out for the DUP refuting the Oxford Companion.

STIGMATA ASSEMBLY STYLE
Listening to the insults being traded between the DUP and Sinn Fein we can look forward to an early outbreak of stigmata in the Assembly.
Interestingly, I came across this photograph of the most famous of stigmatists, old Padre Pio and was struck by his likeness to somebody or other. I'm torn between Alex Maskey and Nelson McCausland.
No matter, let us all look forward to an orgy of political blood-letting.

Mark if you believe when I say that the DUP and Sinn Fein will not find any agreement until at least next year do you believe that Empey, McGimpsey and Ritchie do nothing to help their constituents?
Any chance of the technical guys sorting out the problems this page has? Namely apostrophes being replaced with question marks.
