Sarah Palin MLA?
The more I read about John McCain's running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the more familiar she sounds. The failed previous Democrat Candidate John Kerry criticised her as "somebody who doesn't believe climate change is man-made". Then, after her speech to the Republican convention, the Guardian noted that "her forte is the sardonic one liner." I began to wonder when I had last spotted Sammy Wilson. Could our Environment Minister be across the Atlantic, moonlighting in drag?
Then I read about her Christian, anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage views. Well, Iris Robinson obviously came to mind, and you can see the likeness.
But finally we have to factor in her polar bear hating, moose hunting stance which extends to enthusiasm for shooting wolves from aircraft. Has Jim Shannon ever tried that? If not, I bet he'd like to have a go.
Should the McCain team fail to overcome Obama in November, Mrs Palin should not despair. Surely there would be a place for her on the benches at Stormont.

The difference, Mark, is that the US people like Sarah Palin. There is a growing crowd of ex-DUP supporfters who detest their so-called representatives.

Sarah Palin must have picked up on your blog Mark.
The latest similarity:

P.S. don't show this to Iris for heaven's sake or it's back to forty more years.

Does Mrs Palin support power sharing with terrorists though?
Afterall this is the new DUP position.
I very much doubt any american will be asking members of Al Queda to join their senate anytime soon...

The woman is utterly bonkers, but tell you what, she is gorgeous.
I think that now completes my top 5 political women:
1. Martina Purdy
2. Yuliya Tymoshenko
3. Sarah Palin
4. Hillary Clinton
5. Michelle Gildernew
By the way, Kevin Myers wrote an amusing piece in today's Irish Independent. It basically says that what Levi did to Bristol, Levi now is.

DEFINITELY NOT SAMMY!
Sammy "moonlighting in drag"?
Moonlighting in the buff is more likely.

ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL...
Republican John McCain's running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, does indeed have similarity to the DUP's Jim Shannon and his fondness for killing animals with guns.
I wonder how they explain this to young children as being in conflict to the words of the chorus in the well-loved hymn written by the Church of Ireland hymn writer and poetess, Cecil Frances Alexander:
"All things bright and beautiful
All creatures great and small
All things wise and wonderful
The Lord God made them all"
Perhaps the chorus of the hymn should be changed to:
"All things bright and beautiful
All creatures great and small
All things wise and wonderful
The Fundamentalists kill them all"

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER [Definitely true in your case, RJ]
Reflecting on your idea of "georgeous" I'm surprised you haven't included Ann Widdecombe in your list.

On the popularity of Sarah Palin see for instance
http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/09/sarah_palin_and_the_two_americ.html
Thomas Lifson writing in American Thinker highlights the role of the fourth estate with thier liberal, know it all tendencies to get it wrong.
Sarah Palin is no fool. She would no more join our "Folks on the Hill" than hand Alaska back to the Russians.

It sounds to me like Sarah Palin has stolen policy and characters from the DUP. Before we know it Jim Allister will have a press release out denouncing Sarah Palin as a Sinn Fein lover. 18 days after those expenses were raised Jim has failed to provide answers. I think Jim Allister should decommission his website as it is nothing short of genius in any amount of material about him. On Jim's website last year on the 4th October Jim produces an original letter on special advisers within the Civil Service.
Jim Allister is particularly keen to know -
1. Financial package relating to each
2. Salary
3. Allowances (including travel)
4. Benefits in kind and pension costs and rights.
5. The facilities afforded to each in terms of offices etc
6. Advise the cost to the public purse of equipping and running same
If Jim wants to know this then why will he not tell us the tax payers what his is?

I cant believe you have Hilary Clinton in at number 3. Where do you put Margaret Ritchie!!!!
Complain about this comment
You think I should have Margaret above Hillary?
Complain about this comment
RJ,
I think I may have put my point cross wrongly. What I meant is if you think Hilary is number 4 you must think Margaret Ritchie is something special. I on the other hand strongly disagree. My top 3 would be -
1. Karen Patterson (technically speaking is not political but is a newsreader and broadcaster)
2. Martina Purdy
3. Sharon Haughey

Ms Palin's husband was a member of the Alaskan Independance Party. Not the most 'unionist' of organisations one must say. Perhaps this might make her DUP supporters think twice. Or does the DUP only like nationalists who are non-RC? Alex Salmond for instance?
