Orangefest

Mark Devenport | 15:26 UK time, Friday, 27 June 2008

With the Portadown Orange talking to Gerry Adams, and the West Belfast Orange about to set off on their Whiterock parade, this weekend's guest on Inside Politics is the Orange Grand Secretary Drew Nelson. He spells out Orange Order HQ's bottom line for talking to Sinn Fein, explains the Grand Lodge's reservations about power sharing and reveals why some tourism officials think the Order should go slow in its efforts to make the 12th more visitor friendly.

That's on Inside Politics at a quarter to one tomorrow.

thought it was a good programme with Mr Nelson speaking very clear

I for one was glad to hear him continue to state that the policy of the Grand Lodge is to remain that no talks with SF/IRA will happen until they stop spreading and encouraging hatred of the Orange Order. Also As Mr Nelson also pointed out the Order had hundreds of members slaughtered by the IRA. However SF/IRA have never once showed regret for these murders, instead simply continue to show support for terrorists. As our deputy first minister proved at the weekend in Londonderry and Gerry Kelly will prove this weekend by attending events supporting terrorists

    ORANGE ORDER DRAGON

I am told the orange marching season is sometimes referred to as “the silly season”. The Orange Order, or at least a few of its lodges, seems to have made an historic discovery. King Billy had a cohort of Chinese orange terracotta warriors complete with dragon emblazoned banner and, 1690 was indeed the year of the dragon. Anna Lo, MLA thinks it would be a good idea in an all-inclusive society to form a new Orange Dragon Lodge. What? King Billy actually crossed the Boyne River on the back of a dragon? You cannot get more politically correct than that!

What next? A Leprechaun dressed in green and white collarette riding a Chinese orange dragon leading the parade down the Garvaghy Road?
