A Long Wait In Tipperary
Ian Paisley had a good time in Cork over the weekend, as evidenced by his decision to put his signature on a copy of the Good Friday Agreement, as reported elsewhere on this website Paisley signs deal
In the Great Hall this morning, he reminisced about a previous visit to Cork, 60 years ago, when he was just 22 years old. He told us how he and a friend had taken a driving holiday in the south in an old Austin. All went smoothly until the two got to Tipperary, when the Austin broke down, and they had to wait three days for a spare part to arrive from Dublin.

Well done to those who delivered the parts in three days it took over three decades for Mr Paisley to say yes

Seems Dr Paisley can take as many risks as he now wants since landing his life time objective. Before the election he would have thrown it in the bin to convince the unionist population that he was a true blue and no truck with Dublin. I cannot but think that his excessive joy since reaching high office is an explosion of relief after years of rigid tension always on his guard and showing a dogmatic and scathing cutting edge. Like a tight spring let lose he has rebounded across Ireland and the world.
