Oops! I forgot I won that election...
Sinn Fein's Conor Murphy is the only one of his party colleagues not to declare his position as a Westminster MP (unpaid, just expenses) in his Assembly register of interests. Mr Murphy did duly declare land and property interests but he forgot about his Westminster role, despite looking thrilled in 2005 when he snatched the seat long held by the SDLP. When contacted by the BBC, after an eagle-eyed colleague spotted the omission, a party spokesman said it was an oversight that was now being rectified.

Good spot BBC! Conor Murphy may like to think Westminster has disappeared now that we have an assembly, but he should remember it "hasn't gone away you know!" ;)

SINN FEIN: THE HALF-TRUTH PARTY (and that’s being kind)
Given that he is a member of the Half-Truth Party why would anyone be surprised that Conor Murphy failed to make a full disclosure in the Assembly Register of Members’ Interests?

Look at the example set by the Leader of his Party who is a master of deceit, most recently on the issues of State collusion and dealing with the past. Adams looks at the past with one eye closed. Republicans are ubervictims; the rest count for nothing. His project is to put so many obstacles in the way of a comprehensive examination of the past that the Prods will get fed up and once again retire to the golf course as they did in 1969. So, for presentational purposes, Adams will continue to beat the victim drum to placate his own constituency; he’ll pay lip service to the notion of independent commissions on dealing with the past but everyone knows his support is pure window-dressing because the outcomes would prove disastrous for Sinn Fein (collusion, eh Gerry? who was involved?). The reality is that the bright light of truth would have Sinn Fein Republicans scurrying back into the Netherworld where they are most comfortable.
The disingenuousness about how to deal with the past extends beyond Sinn Fein. The Secretary of State will collude with Sinn Fein by procrastinating on the format of a truth process by ensuring that the Eames/Bradley charade fizzles out. (By the way, where is the Secretary of State? Indeed, who is the SoS?). The Historical Enquiries Team will be amalgamated with something or other (ie wound up). The Assets Recovery Agency will be shafted again in one way or another (happy days on the South Armagh/Louth border). The DUP leadership will continue its self-deception with its crackbrained belief that Sinn Fein/IRA has been neutered and is no longer a threat. Not forgetting that Margaret Ritchie will announce soon another Review of the funding awarded to the UDA. All the aforementioned will sustain the vacuum that enables the Loyalist Paramilitaries to press ahead with their vile activities.
Let’s not be mealy-mouthed, if the Truth about our past were to emerge the Assembly would collapse. It all boils down to whether or not the Politicians believe the Truth is more important than the Assembly’s continued existence; my money’s on the Gravy Train Assembly.
