Marmite First Minister?
So who's laughing now?
The Clown Prince of Wales , that's who, a Marmite-love-him-or-hate-him First Minister as some have portrayed him in the past.If so, today's poll would suggest we're fans of the stuff you spread on toast.
65% of those questioned said they felt Rhodri Morgan had done a good job. Only 21% thought he'd done badly - pretty remarkable figures for any politician on his way out.
Pretty daunting figures for a Labour politician on his or her way in to the job too and most daunting of all for the Welsh Labour party, who can put off for not much longer the job of finding someone to fill those shoes.
[One poll, two threads - cheeky I know but how often does the boss foot the bill for an opinion poll in Wales?]

I'm Betsan Powys, BBC Wales' political editor. I'll be blogging the inside track on

Do we thank him for creating a government with a minority that would split Wales from the UK at the first opportunity, I don't think so, retire soon Rhodri Morgan, Wales will be a better place.

This result is remarkable. Rhodri has been First Minister nine years, part of the UK encumberant poltical party, is now in the middle of a deep economic recession, and is getting Obama like poll ratings. Whatever people's politics they cannot deny that Rhodri is an extraordinarily popular political figure. Tough to replace yes Betsan, but we said that about Barry John, Phil Bennet, Johnathon Davies..............Time now for the Welsh First Minister factory to roll the production line......

Yes, for his service to the Welsh nation. Additionally, if you had any decency and an ability to rise above pettyness, you would distance yourself from those that make personal attacks to such a degree against a Welsh statesman.
Shame on you Stonemason.

I would think that virtually all welsh people would agree that Rhodri Morgan is a very decent and honourable person who has genuinely sought to improve Wales within the bounds of his political vision. The technical question is whether he has significantly improved public services given that his "Governments" of differing stripes has received vastly increased funding from English taxpayers in past 6/7 years. The answer is no and condition of Union with rest of UK is getting more precarious because of his political weakness in allowing the NATS anywhere near power. The cuts (in real money and not reducing growth in public expenditure)are coming whatever government in Westminster and he's probably getting out at a good time. I hope he enjoys the Ryder Cup in Newport.

I listen to him speak and you are absolutely correct, he comes across as a very nice person, so for all my personal insults directed at him I appologise.
I find it difficult to forgive him for not saying "No" when we know he should, sometimes we need a "General".
So Drachenfyre, chastised I am.
