Waiting no more
The new leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and the first woman to lead a political party in Wales is Kirsty Williams.
69.44% of the party's 2600 members voted, 59.9 per cent for Kirsty Williams and 40.1 per cent for Jenny Randerson.

I'm Betsan Powys, BBC Wales' political editor. I'll be blogging the inside track on

OMG !!!! Tell us ALL ABOUT IT !!!
The tears, the tantrums, the recriminations !!!
I bet those people who posted that video on YouTube are regretting 'reaping the whirlwind' now that Kirsty has won.
Come along, Bets, tell us, will she govern as..
1/ Sarah Palin
2/ Harriet Harman
3/ Segolene 50/100 Promises Royal
More to the point, will our little 'welsh dragon' [sic] now look to wider pastures ?
Today 'Welsh Lib Dems', tomorrow Westminster, thereafter the world ! [evil cackling heard from the Bay..]

In 1999 1,920 people voted in the Lib Dem leadership election. If your figures are right then that means that 8 years of Mike German has led to a decrease in the number of voters to 1,805.
No wonder they decided to make a change. Shame that they didn't have a more imaginative candidate.

Good to see a good clear result.
Unlike some other result I could mention.
559,419....................50.3%
552,698.....................49.7%
Turnout...........50.1%
Still, with such narrow margins, another referendum on the future of this awful assembly, cannot be far away.

Well done Lib-Dems. Only you could manage to pick as their next leader somebody that is "worse than dentistry without an anaesthetic".
Never underestimate Lib-Dem members ability to make a 'b*lls-up" any time their are given a vote.
Rainbow anyone? God no...why would we want to govern?
Candidate with proven track record and ministerial experience? God no - where's the fun in that when we can pick someone who makes empty statements about nothing.

I notice she was a 'Marketing executive' - just what the people of Wales need to bring that touch of reality to the Assembly - i don't think!

Sounds vacuous to me... a bit of a poser too.
"... the partAY"
Exactly what we need in Wales, someone who speaks like that.

Now I'm no Lib Dem, Jack. But Ms. Williams' election has certainly made an impression on you.
Your very first posts on here (two in fact) and both "anti-Kirsty".
What a little ray of sunshine you must be !

Though it's never mentioned in her personal history, Kirsty was in fact the librarian at Coleg Sir Gar's Graig Campus in Llanelli prior to taking up her marketing post.
So don't underestimate her knowledge of culture, media, sport, further education and Llanelli's 1990's nightclub scene...

Give the guy a chance. We have all resigned ourselves to reading anti-assembly spin when we read your comments!

The election of a new party leader in Wales achieves 2 whole sentences from Betsan Powys! That's how significant the Lib Dems are!

#8 - A 'librarian' eh..? I thought that the term 'executive' being bandied about was too good to be true. Now all she needs are the Sarah Palin spectacles and her transformation will be all but complete...

Message 9 from Osian.
I can assure you, that virtually all the political 'spin' that appears in the Welsh media comes from Plaid Cymru's band of 'publicity foot-soldiers' fresh from Plaid's indoctrination camps. Acting on "President" Dafydd Iwan's orders to "use all the latest technology...forums, blogs, to get Plaid's message across !..."Cymru X indeed"!!!!!
Message 10 again from Osian.
ONLY TWO SENTENCES ! Just look again at some of Betsan's posts on the subject of the Lib Dems leadership election.
There's none so blind as. . . . .
