It was announced today that two One Show presenters are to take part in the new series of the BBC hit show Strictly Come Dancing. Our very own Phil Tufnell and Rav Wilding will be taking to the dancefloor, in front of the nation.

Phil TufnellPhil and Katya

Phil, our arts reporter, and English cricketing legend explained, to the Strictly website, why he is taking part: "Well, you're only young once, aren't you? It's a really exciting show and the chance to take part was a really exciting opportunity for me."

Phil's dancing partner is Katya Virshilas.

Rav Wilding

Rav and AlionaRav covers the crime beat for The One Show. He's a former military man, and detective constable. He agreed to Strictly because: "I really love a good challenge and love learning new skills, so this is really exciting for me. Dancing is something completely alien to me as I have never ever stepped foot on a dance floor in my life."

Rav's dancing partner is Aliona Vilani.

Last year, The One Show's John Sergeant and Christine Bleakley took part in Strictly. Watch their video highlights here.

Good-luck Rav and Phil!

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing kicks off on BBC One, Friday 18 September 2009.

The One Show website will be following Phil and Rav's progress in the competion very closely! Keep checking the site for our Strictly updates.

cute_bulldogs.jpgTonight on The One Show we met two bulldogs in need of a new home.

Duchess was found in a neglected state, but is being lovingly nursed back to health.

And we also saw Maggie, who nearly died from the abuse she suffered in the past, but today she is happier and healthier than ever.

What sets men and women apart? Suggest a gender test!

The One Show Team | 12:49 UK time, Thursday, 20 August 2009

Following on from the discussion on tonight's show about the South African athlete who has been asked to take a gender test, we'd like to hear what you think, aside from the obvious, that sets men and women apart.

Can you suggest a test that would reveal a person's gender?

Maybe you'd test them by asking them to read a map, by checking whether they leave the toilet seat up or by watching the way they iron a shirt... we'd like to hear your suggestions!

PLEASE REMEMBER -  Keep your answers fun, creative and family friendly.

Please add your genuine first name and location to your comment - they may be mentioned on the programme.

Chant for what you love....!

The One Show Team | 16:15 UK time, Thursday, 13 August 2009

Tonight's (13/08/09) guest was the poet Ian McMillan who has recently judged a competition called 'Get On', where footie fans were asked to create new chants for their team.

Inspired by this, we've decided to run our own creative chanting challenge - with a twist...

What you have to do:

Write a one-verse chant to the tune of 'When the Saints Go Marching In', about anything other than football.

Make your chant about something that you feel passionate about. For instance you might like to write it in honour of your hometown, favourite food or hobby.

Here's a version you can adapt...

Oh, when the saints go marching in
Oh, when the saints go marching in
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

Remember, don't make it any longer than one verse and your entry must be your own original creation!

Please don't forget to leave your name and location as we'll be reading out our favourite chant/s on tomorrow's show.

Happy chanting!

Are rowdy fans ruining cricket?

Today saw the start of the fourth Ashes test at Headingly but officials have banned some England fans from attending.

The debate started last week after the crowd booed Australian captain Ricky Ponting and other members of the Australian team during the third Ashes Test.

Their conduct was heavily criticised but Ricky Ponting insisted he had no problem with the booing he faced.

The One Show joined Phil outside the grounds at Headingly to ask whether the Barmy Army, England's notoriously vocal supporters' group, has become a tad too barmy.

We'd like to know what you think and also hear your experiences.
