Jamie's shortlist
Some of the highest rated pics - as chosen by you - will be among the shortlist of photos that Jamie will select his favourites from. His pick of the wildlife photos will then be shown on The One Show on Friday, 17 April 2009. If you'd like your photo to be considered for Jamie's shortlist you need to send it to us before 9am, Friday, 17 April 2009.
Please note: You can of course keep sending in your photos to our galleries after 9am on Friday, 17 April 2009 - but they won't be considered for Jamie's shortlist of snaps.

Taking photographs of wild animals restrained by a leash is not acceptable. The lemur looked terrified. It has taken about 20 years to clear europe of chimps which are kept on leads , drugged beaten and have their teeth taken out so they can be used as photographers props on the beaches etc. It is not something i would expect the BBC to condone.

Should entries appear straight away. I have tried to submit a photo twice but seem to have ended up in some sort of loop - the image wasn't too large!

There must have been thousands of entries in the various categories but the 'Fierce' category hasn't been updated since last Thursday. I can't believe there are only 69 images considered worthy enough to be judged.
Also, it is clear that many of the subjects are "captive" or in a controlled environment, thus greatly reducing the required photographic skills.
One other thing, does the BBC match the computer IP address of the person rating the image? If not, what is to stop someone constantly hitting the ratings button to boost up the score of a particular image?
Perhaps there should be two competitions run in parallel, one judged by the public and the other judged by a panel of professional photographers.

Like sgarrett I have been trying to upload a picture which is the correct size but it but seems to be doing the same thing, very frustrating is there a problem?

I've uploaded a number of pics for this gallery and none have appeared. This if the first time I've done this and am really disappointed by how poor things are. If you want viewer's to take part and share their photos, create a system that works.

How are any of the images praised tonight - sealion, abandoned puppies and captive Snowy Owl - classed as wildlife? None of them are wild! Decide whether it IS wildlife that is the focus or just any animal!

Unfortunately this seems a good idea gone wrong, after all the heading does say wildlife photos. In wildlife photos where nearly 20% of the fierce images are domesticated creatures, however good the images are they should have been filtered out, it also leaves a question mark on creatures in sanctuaries etc etc!I can understand people submitting genuine wildlife images being disappointed when they are not shown, mine were submitted last week and have not appeared yet! On the understanding that this is reactively moderated I hope that any future events are better defined and controlled.

At 1:00pm today I noted that there were 129 images in the 'Cute' category. I also noted that the total number of ratings for these 129 images amounted to 8371 hits.
The average number of hits per image would therefore be around 65 assuming the "pre-selected" images chosen by The One Show panel were of uniform quality but at 1:00pm just two images out of 129 had captured a massive 50% of the ratings with 3132 and 1051 hits respectively which is quite astonishing!

Hi there !
ATTENTION ANY MODERATORS ON LINE RIGHT NOW!!!There is a fault on the rating system at present which means that you cannot rate some of the photo's which makes the system unfair for some as their photo's will not get rated .
I have notified the beeb through normal channels but it is not clear if this will be rectified by closing time in the morning ,again making it unfair for some as their pictures will not get voted for(i.e.pg7 beautiful category is stuck. The star ratings chosen will not register)
IS THE VOTING RIGGED AGAIN??

When an image is rated (and verified by the thank you message) should you expect to see the total number of ratings for the image increment by one? When I close the image and refresh the page the total hasn't changed. I note that #10 comment has experienced a similar problem.
I tried using Internet Explorer 8 instead of Firefox 3 in case it was a browser problem but with the same result!
I have just tried again in vain to rate several images. It would appear that none of my ratings have been registered.

@17 When you choose as start rating and click, a small message pops it saying thank you. Your vote has been recorded but dose not show straight away, after a little while, About 5 mins i have noticed and the rate number will have moved, its the same for everybody who clicks a star, 20 people click then after the refresh period it goes up by 20.

Thanks littledazzyd @18, although a particular image I rated yesterday evening (successfully, I was informed) is still registering the same number - 68.

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. I too tried submitting a couple of photos. They did not upload. Tried on Tuesday - managed to get a couple through - hopefully. Wednesday and Thursday looking at all the entries and rated many of them with 4 or five stars. Went back to website several hours later but the rating score had not altered on any of the photographs I had rated. My grandchildren stayed all day Friday and we tried voting for new photographs that were "unrated". We tried time and time again and got acknowledgement that our rating had been received. Again we looked at website an hour or two later - still no scores awarded. I emailed the One show to express the disappointment that myself and grandchildren had experienced and got an immediate reply that said my pc was at fault and another email saying it took 10 minutes for ratings to appear on site. I emailed back to explain this had been a problem for the last 24 hours and my pc was working perfectly but the website had not altered any rating since Thursday 5.00 p.m. They obviously had turned OFF the rating system on Thursday teatime - so why was not an honest explanation given to me. I thought the whole idea of the programme was to get the children out and about taking photos or wildlife and thus involving them. After this disappointment they wont want to take part or vote again.

Forgot to mention on my previous blog that winners were to be chosen from "highest ratings as chosen by you". Of course I appreciate that we all have different favourites out of all the beautiful photos that were submitted for this competition. BUT... t

I was "cut off" half way through previous blog. But I noted the winning entry in Cute Category had 4 star rating with only 24 votes. Many others in this category had five stars and more ratings. Also Deer at Richmond was a four star rating but with only 4 votes!!! There were several photos submitted with 5 stars and votes going into a few hundred. I presume the ratings were NOT considered when choosing the winners. Likewise many beautiful photos were left with no ratings at all and would have stood no chance of winning anyway iF voting system was not working for 24 hours. Shame on you Theoneshow - a waste of time and a BIG CON.

I agree with the previous statements about the ratings, Although i had no trouble rating the work, It does seem many ratings were ignored.
I saw many photos with much higher ratings than the ones chosen by the show, Seems the viewer rating was ignored and the one show team chose what they wanted regardless of public power.

YES THE VIEWER RATING WAS OBVIOUSLY IGNORED. I WAS REALLY ANNOYED WHEN I CONTACTED THE SHOW YESTERDAY TO BE TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH RATINGS. I ACTUALLY EMAILED FRIENDS AND FAMILY ON DIFFERENT PCS AND ASKED THEM TO PLACE A VOTE ON A PHOTOGRAPH THAT HAD "ITEM NOT RATED" AFTER A FEW HOURS WE CHECKED AGAIN AND AGAIN BUT STILL NO RATINGS GIVEN. EVEN NOW THERE ARE DOZENS OF PHOTOS WITH NO RATINGS AT ALL - NEARLY 48 HOURS AFTER RATINGS BEING GIVEN FOR THEM. WHY COULD THE SHOW NOT HAVE BEEN HONEST AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM INSTEAD OF SAYING MY PC WAS TO BLAME.

Along with others, I was disappointed not to be able to register "ratings" for any of the photos on the wildlife galleries.
Even though a message popped up thanking me for rating the image, many hours later (including overnight on one image) the total rating on images I had selected never changed.
I tried using Internet Explorer 8 instead of my usual Firefox 3 browser without success.
I appreciate that less than 6% of the 15,000 images sent in actually made it to the three galleries but I now wonder how many of my (and others) images sent actually reached The One Show despite a message saying the image had successfully been uploaded!
In fact one of my images did make it to the Fierce category. On that particular image of mine, I asked my daughter (who lives miles away from me -different computer, different isp etc.) to rate it for me but she e-mailed me later that evening to say it also hadn't been registered.
Also, when I sent in (or thought I had!) my images, the rules stated that they must not exceed 1M in size but I have just looked on the uploading page and it says 20M ??? When did this change and why.
Finally, I thought this was supposed to be a WILDLIFE photographic competition. I had sent in Cute, Beautiful and Fierce category images but ALL were genuine wild creatures and not confined to zoos, falconry displays or farm / pet animals.
Interestingly, I have twice attempted to send this blog directly to The One Show via 'contact us' and although I get a "Thank you for your feedback" a message appears saying "An error occurred while processing this directive".
Perhaps the web master should take a look at what is going wrong.

Re: My posts @3 and @8: looking at the images this morning I note that some images that had extremely high rating "hits" are now significantly lower. Are the hits being compared to the computer IP addresses of those rating the images to eliminate multiple hits?
