John Humphrys - The House Where I Grew Up
For The One Show, Today's John Humphrys returned to his childhood home of Splott in Cardiff.
John's mum was a hairdresser and his dad a French polisher, he remembers them bringing their work home with them and the house filled with horrible smells from their various concoctions.
Talking about his four siblings, John recounts his initial dislike of younger brother Rob and discusses his memories of the tragic death of his little sister Christine.
Ever since reading the Superman comics as a child John knew that he wanted to be a reporter, just like Clark Kent. After leaving school at 15 he began his dream job, as a junior reporter for the Penarth Times.

It was a real shock for me to see this on the TV tonight as this was the street that I grew up in too - 6 houses down the street from John! My grandparents also lived on the street - about 25 houses down in the next block.
I was always told that Pearl St was in Roath, not Splott as it was one side of the railway line that formed the boundary between the two - if anyone can let me know officially I would be grateful.
Thank you John for a trip down memory lane for me also.
