What are the modern deadly sins?

The Seven Deadly Sins, as you may know, are: Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Greed, Envy, Pride and Sloth.

As Gyles Brandreth found out, this list of sins has been around since the Middle Ages. Back then committing these sins resulted in punishments such as being put in frozen water and smothered in fire and brimstone.

But, in terms of guidance, are the seven deadly sins as relevant today as they were back then?

We want to know which sins you think should be added to the list today.

Rudeness, perhaps, impatience or maybe insincerity? Or is it as simply bad customer service, people who talk too loudly on their mobile phone or eat smelly food in public places?

It's over to you - what should the modern deadly sins be? Let us know here.

Remember: If you're happy for your comment to be read out on air, please include your first name and location.

The conventional church may be having a hard time but you need to look at other options. I am a member of the Bournemouth Community Church and the average attendance on a Sunday is around 150. Is that dying? The churches may be empty but the faith is strong. I think more research needs to be done before making these sweeping remarks.

The modern deadly sin is in full evidence. It was addressed in your show last night, when Al Murray referred to his recent audiences being extreemly annoyed by the lack of action in bringing the bankers to account for the present financial crisis.
For my sins I was a Chartered Professional Civil Engineer for most of my working life.
Had I, or any of my colleagues, been responsible for Professional negligence, say for example a bridge we had designed or maintained, had failed causing death and injury to a coach load of people, through our neglect, we would be struck off by the Institution of Civil Engineers. Similarly Doctors proven to have caused death by neglect are often struck off by the GMC.
Why then is this government shying away from retrieving the peoples money from these extreemly negligent bankers who seem to insist they are Professionals.
It's no good saying to us you know what to do, get on your bike and vote in another party at the next election.
That will be too late and another party will have to sweep up this mess, created by a slack government who could not see this disaster coming. In fact an obvious world wide slackness.
So as seen in Al Murray's shows the people of this country are quite rightly in almost revolt (which takes a lot of doing here unlike France) and demand heads to roll, not bonuses continually upheld to these totally unprofessional bankers, who will say sorry until hell freezes over as long as they keep there second and third homes in Monte Carlo etc. and continue their yaughting life styles.
This time we've had enough, mates of Gordon Brown or not we want OUR MONEY back in Our Banks.

Sin is the reason why 30,000 children a day die from preventable diseases; it’s the reason why children suffer from child-abuse; why people are in despair because of debt, the fear of losing their homes or unemployment; why people’s lives have been destroyed in Gaza, Israel, Zimbabwe, Iraq, Afghanistan and numerous other parts of the world; why the number of children living below the poverty line in the UK is in 7 figures; why lives are wrecked by drug and alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy and broken relationships; why there is sex trafficking, terrorism and child slavery; why hundreds of millions are starving to death; why there is hatred, violence, prejudice, cruelty and bullying; why Jesus had to die a hideous and bloody criminal’s death on a trumped-up charge . . . Sin is rebellion against God, stubbornly shutting him out of our lives, defiantly scorning his commands. It separates us from him. Sin is detestable to God and is deadly serious. We’re all guilty – the Bible tells us: “no-one is righteous, not even one . . . all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3). What a tragedy that so few understand the priceless blessings and release of accepting God’s invitation to be reconciled with him through Jesus, made clear in the Bible – and the grim consequences of rejecting it . . .
