The shape of the Birmingham Library is not the problem, it is the dirty contrete surface which is so horrible. They should paint it (multicoloured) then it would be stunning and far less brutal.

I think Central Library would make a fantastic Tate Modern. Demolish all of the peripheral stuff which makes it look so horrible and just leave the ziggurat in place. Paint it in funky colours and bobs your uncle a proper cool Modern Art Gallery! Bit like a smaller one of that power station in London.
Real vision is needed but sadly the land is too valuable and the council will approve demolition to enable sale of the land to make way for more High rise offices.

central library brum is just what it says.
it is an iconic and beautiful part of our core heritage.it should be listed, grey exterior and all. dont paint it dont touch it. it provided me with a haven of knowledge and solace in my years as a student in that great city. long live the buildings of brummegum, warts and all.
