I think The One Show is one of the best new programs around. I t does however annoy me that so called educated reporters etc cannot tell the difference between the words Accept and Except and in what context to use them. If you watch the reports you will notice this on a regular basis. It is not just on this program that this happens regularly but thro out all tv reporting.

I always enjoy the show but am disappointed in that tonight no one seemed to have picked up on the 'remarkable' quality of the recording Mrs Janes apparently made of her private conversation with the Prime Minister? Maybe the Sun or even the BBC are involved in this character assassination? My handwriting is much worse than Mr Browns so I print everything - after spellchecking of course.

So can we now have Kaye Adams admit that the BBC unremittingly bias toward the Left no matter how wrong they get it the BBC will always take the heat for the Left and will always blow up about any story however small that can be spun negatively for the Right.
The fact is Brown was completely careless when writing the letter and for not proof reading it and his office is chaotic because no one else proof read the letter. And what the BBC won't report is that he told Mrs. Janes on the telephone that he had spelled her name correctly despite the obvious truth that he didn't and also goes to show how heartless he was during that telephone call to mount a defence instead of a giving grovelling apology. It took him 3 attempts to get it right. The BBC has also chosen not to publicise the full transcript of the telephone call and the dismissive replies he made to Mrs. Janes. Nor has the BBC reported the disgraceful Labour spin campaign to smear Mrs Janes as politically motivated.
The BBC has tried its best to do nothing other than spin this as a sympathy story for Brown's disability. Are you kidding! Compared to the death of a serviceman who was only where he was because of Brown's orders. The BBC are reaching new levels of despicable behaviour.
It's also supremely rich for Adams to claim that the Sun are misleading when the BBC in all areas of news self-censors itself based on its liberal agenda. You won't see on the BBC News any suggestion of radical Islamic connections to the guy who went on a rampage at Fort Hood. In fact any act of Islamic terrorism around the world is never reported by the BBC to have any connections to fundamental Islamism. Israel is always in the wrong - where was the BBC's apology when it was conclusively shown that the IDF did not bomb a school and kill children during the recent conflict and for which the BBC crucified Israel?
This has to be one of the most despicable and inhuman things The One Show has done in its short and illustrious history of making excuses for Labour.

....Mrs Janes,,,,,I think she has been very silly indeed.Mr Brown made a mistake in the way he wrote the letter but meant no harm.
i am sure she will now want to draw a line under it because the public is showing sympathy for gordon.
i would have thought that mrs janes would be more interested in honouring her son rather than setting up gordon brown.
she is showing disrespect to her son.
who sets up a recording device to record in such quality.....could it be she was expecting an important call ?

I am utterly disgusted that the BBC uses my licence fee to fund the One Show, a so-called "entertainment" programme which is in reality a subtle (and sometimes no so subtle) propaganda tool used to support the current government. Last week we had a blatant "Support Tony Blair" item and today we have a similarly blatent item supporting Gordon Brown's political letter writing ineptness. This viewer will use his own sanction and will therefore not watch this programme again.
I wish to complain in the strongest possible terms that an supposed entertainment programme is used for political purposes. I hope this email is passed on to the BBC Trust who I hope will investigate the comments therein.
Does anyone out there agree?

Interesting prog tonight-I am sure we all have every sympathy for Jamie James's mother but it does seem that she has been set up by The Sun in its vendetta against Gordon Brown.
Kay Adams seems to be on everything lately-she was covering Mathew Wrights show on channel 5 this morning-she is underrated as a presenter-but I suppose being experienced but not that young or glamorous is a hindrance to professional women on BBC .Birmingham pub bombs were 35 years ago-can you believe it?-it seemed to be a cold gloomy time with power cuts three day weeks etc-the only celebrities were union leaders-seems like a different planet now-Adrian did seem envious of Freddies trip to the palace and I am sure he thinks SIR Adrian Chiles is achievable.

jbatpersonal...first of all it is a blog not an email...if you want to complain then you need to do it through the normal email/complaint system.
i do not agree with you apart from i do not think an entertainment show that is supposed to highlight the regions should not be covering such a story.

Reference Mr Brown’s letter to Mrs Janes
It seems to me that everyone seems to be missing the point. There is little doubt that the Prime Minister takes the trouble to write personally in these circumstances and this is to be applauded. However, it is obvious that mistakes can easily cause offence – so it is essential that letters are checked before they are posted. The real worry is that his staff are so uneducated that they cannot spell and they are helping to run the country!

I think in relation to the "Gordon Brown letter" discussion on tonights show, that if any other partially sighted citizen had been critisised in this manner it would be a very different story, our PM took the time out of what will be the busiest diary in Britain to hand write a letter, it's discriminatory to sensationalize his disability in this manner!! Do people think that because it's Gordon Brown it's OK? Well it's not! Mistakes happen as was demonstrated by your own presenter this evening, has he now to be taken to task about his reading skills??
Complain about this comment
Alan Shine.........from what i understand to be true mr brown is the only PM to ever write letters to parents of our lost hero's.
i would much rather get a letter that was heart felt, honest and contained mistakes than a letter checked and checked again by a team of spin doctors....
respect to you mr brown..and i say that at the moment as someone unlikely to vote labour at the next election

Whilst I very much enjoy the One Show I am not too happy about reopening old wounds.(Now there is peace at last). However, being a Brummy I feel it right to point out the incorrect report by Kaye Adams stating the Birmingham Six had been wrongly imprisoned. I remember quite well, having many Police officer friends, that the Court had no choice but to release the accused due to insufficient evidence in the original trial (technical error). The error which brought this about was the fact that the Police had a lot more evidence they could have used but believed they had put forward sufficient to secure a conviction.
One of the problems with this Countries legal system is the fact that human memories are very short and six years later much of what was seen and said in a Court at time plus added to the mellowing of time,
a review of the case will be more flawed than six years or so previously.

what a dreadful site to use, have adrian or christine tried to use it , i simply wanted to say about 1 hour ago how unforgiving and judgemental christine was when discussing browns mistakes, with his support staff it should never happened i agree, but then only the usual dizzy smile from christine when the man himself (adrian) has to apologies because of an even more unforgiveable mistake, and armed with an even bigger team of present advisors and promts. sorry about any typos but in this case it matters not!

hokeykokeyalex,
You are right about the Sun.
Of course they would never be insensitive about someone's death. Except in the case of Hillsborough, where they blamed the Liverpool fans. Or the case of of the sinking of the Belgrano where they used the headline 'Gotcha' to report the sinking of a ship with the loss of over 300 souls. Or, indeed, the case of Marc Vivien Foe - the Cameroonian player who passed away the pitch which the Sun thought appropriate to report with a picture of the man as he lay dead.

How strange to criticse others for their mistakes and then apologise for your typos.
As far as Christine being judgemental, surely she was only reading from a prepared script and the blame may lie elsewhere. Anyway, the error was corrected - surely that's what should have happened and did.
We ALL make mistakes.
Mrs Janes.
When this story first broke, I had real sympathy with this woman, but having watched the full BBC interview on News 24, I now find myself sympathising with Gordon Brown.
In my view context is all and I do believe the man had the best of intentions at heart. This furore is now getting out of hand, thanks to the Sun and its manipulation of the whole sorry tale.

Agree with comments made in both posts 21 & 23 re the quality of staff/checking (21) and also respect for writing the letters (23). I am not a fan of the PM, but the media furore is distasteful (as is the consideration that he has anything less than utmost respect for the families suffering losses in Afghanistan) and one which I hope we can move on from quickly.

I watched last nights show about the birmingham pub bombings with great interest. I was on the jury at the pub bomb trial and have written a book about my experiences serving on the jury and many years spent researching the whole subject, not least the release of the six. legalities stop me from getting my book published or from casting my opinions. I recently met chris mullin to point out many discrepancies that I found after reading his book "error of judgement", particularly In the section where he claims to have met "the real bombers" .His book is constantly being put up as being the truth without any of its contents being questioned.

46-I still think that the important thing is that they were ultimately " not guilty" but I appreciate no-one is ever found innocent in court-if a "technicality" was enough to sway the verdict then much of the blame lies with West midland police who were renown for taking a "life on mars" approach to detective work in the 1970s-the Carl Bridgwater newspaper boy murder was very similar.

I feel the irony of the afghanistan-iraq gaffe has really been underplayed. Surely we need some manner of panel or special guest (with no real insight into the issue) to pass judgement on the, what was it, disrespect that Chiles and the one with all the teeth made by not getting something as simple as the country in which a service man died in. I can only thing of the abject horror and pain that the family must be suffering with because of their mistake.
Grow up the world, and grow up the One Show. One mans error should not be used to plough his face into a steaming vat of vitriol, yet that is the bandwagon that the show jumped on. Frankly, a media hate campaign levelled against the show is the very least we should expect for one minor insignificant error, after all, isnt that what the media, the One Show included, have done to the PM.
You people make me want to vomit with irrational fury, just like certain newspapers and prime time television shows do about totally irrational things.
