Dom Littlewood and Mike Dilger are pitted against each other in our third challenge for BBC Children in Need. Who will take a spin on the Wheel of Death this Friday?
Mike Dilger is also competing with Miranda Krestovnikoff, this week. They're talking to the animals. Tonight Miranda tried communicating with a woodpecker

I was looking forward to the item about mercenaries but it was unwatchable due to the ridiculous camera work. What was the idea of the jerky moving camera positions and angles? I'm glad I'm not epileptic else I may have had a fit. Please don't muck about with something as fundamental as camera work. Or is it the future and I'm just middle aged?

Regarding the piece on mercenaries, do we really need a complete excess of "edgy" camera work? I was starting to get seasick with the zooming in, zooming out and zooming all about. I'm sure it all felt very artistic but it was no more than intensely irritating.

Please please please don't do that kind of camera work, it made me feel sick, and I couldn't watch the item.

I agree about the awful camerawork in the Mercenary piece. I switched the TV off. It's totally unnecessary - if the show continues with this 'edgy' stuff I'll find something else to do between 7 and 7:30.

What is happeneing with the camera man! is he new! the one who was on the film clip about weapons mercanaries. He kept going in and out on the peole which is so distracting! he needs to go for re-training as this is so off putting!why did he need to focus on the mans watch???
completely puzzled viewer Kaye.

I have turned off your show tonight due to the awful camera work on your security SAS footage. Had the cameraman taken ectasy or what , as it was unbearable to watch and the jerky movements zooming in and out were horrendous. Please don't do this again. thank you

The only reason I'm not the first to comment on the mercenaries film is I had to set up my account again. It was the worst piece of direction I have ever seen, with unbelievably distracting camerawork. I actually stopped watching it half way through to write to you.
Please tell the director that they call it "moving pictures", because what's in the picture moves, not the camera.
Please please please, no more unwatchable films like that.
Pity - the reporting was good.

What was going on in Justin Rowlatt's item on the changing face of mercenaries? Which member of the team's child was given the camera? Made me feel sick
Complain about this comment
Ditto - awful camera work! Made me feel dizzy and sick.....and it's not an age thing because my 16 year old son also commented negatively about it.

I agree with your other bloggers, re camera work on mercenaries.
I had to leave the room. as it made me feel sick.
You are not alone in this technique, other channels also make programmes unwatchable. It's a shame as the content of the reports is missed.

ERR,MM HELLOO - HOW MUCH DOES MICHAEL BOLTON LOOK LIKE DAN SNOW !!!!! AND...DAN SNOW SINGS LIKE HIM TOO !! WHO AGREES ?? XX

Talking to the animals!
It works. It took all of 5 seconds for my 3 year old Westie, Homer, to start barking at the telly!

IS DAN SNOW RELATED TO MICHAEL BOLTON ?? :P

What on earth was going on with the tricksy, distracting camera work on the mercenary piece. How would that do anything but detract from the content. Could an experienced director please take whoever did that on one side and give them a good.....er ....piece of advice. How about "just because you've come out of a meeja studies course and you've been given a nice shiny new camera please resist the temptation to think we want to go on a roller-coaster video ride of complete pointlessness" STOP IT!!

why are you messing about with the cameras, zooming in and out, just impossible to concentrate on the subject in hand - I suffer from migraine and have just had to walk away from tonights program. why can you not just present the topic by showing the subject in one camera shot. come on one show you can do better than this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which idiot thought they could add a sense of menace and the underworld by using that ridiculous camera style on the mercenaries spot? Fool!

This is the very first time I have emailed the BBC because we had to turn off the One Show. We started to watch the item on the mercenaries and the camera work made me feel ill. What were you trying to achieve. We've not enjoyed the show as much since Christine took on a different appearance, but this was a real turn off.

WHO CARES !! Doesnt Dan Snow look like Michale Boltons little brother ? that is worth talking about haha

What school of camera operators do you send your staff to? Just what was the point of the appalling camerawork on the piece about private security companies? What does this inability to hold the camera steady for more than a second hope to achieve for the audience, other than motion sickness? It has no artistic merit whatever. Please grow up, and don't do it.

I agree the camera was moving around and in and out as if a child was filming. It was unwatchable I felt sick please can you not do this again.

With regard to the zooming and jumpy antics of the camera in the mercenaries piece.
STOP IT!
It's not big or clever, just very very irritating

i like the one show with adrian and christine. GREAT. BUT, the filming about "mercenaries". was terrible.zooming in. zooming out. then when someone was being interviewed the camera was juttering .in then in .one frame at a time. terrible the filming spoilt the whole segment.
AND they do the same withe the cooking programs .not just the bbc. but ALL channels. it's not good photography.hence. I DONT WATCH COOKEY PROGRAMS.

I have to agree with all comments about that item on mercenaries. the camera work and editing was rubbish.

Wow!! The ever-delightful, lovely etc etc Miranda Krestovnikoff drumming tonight was the best wildlife item ever. The slightly-worried, expectant look on her face waiting for a reply from the woodpecker was wonderful. I could watch & listen to her (that voice!) all day...

hello...I was watching with interest the feature on D.H.Lawrence as he is a relative of mine....my paternal Grandfather's cousin. I didn't catch the name of the researcher and wonder whether you could forward it ot me as I am very interested in his research. Thank you

David Haye came over very well in his interview. Extremely impressive that he beat his opponent. I was impressed at him stating don't feel sorry for my opponent as he 'shoots bears'. Nice to see compassion from someone who fights for a living.

The camera work was irritating, but probably had more to do with the director of the piece than the poor camera person, who is really getting it in the neck.
Congratulations to the heavyweight David Haye - anyone getting into a ring with that hulking brute has my respect.

Forgive me being a fuddy duddy, but is the practice of not capitalising the word 'I' a convention from texting?
The absence of punctuation also seems to be on the increase.
I would love to hear from Jaded or JohnH, as they write good pieces and will probably tell me that I am being a pedant.

I agree with your other bloggers about the camera work on mercenaries.
It made it impossible to concentrate on the information being presented. Do the Editors not watch these items before they are transmitted?
Complain about this comment
Post 33 astroplums, no-one can be more pedantic than me, lol, but like you I fail to see the need to use text languauge when typing, I am convinced it's laziness, as I shudder to think it's because these souls don't know any better!!!
I am also concerned for the woodpecker, who must have thought he had got through to a call centre in India!!!

I think that Adrian and Christine should have to do a challenge for Children in Need, as well as getting other personalities to do so.

I agree with the comments about jerky camera-work in the mercenaries piece. It ruined that part of the programme. The presenter must have been disappointed (to say the least) when he saw the finished product. I have set up an e-mail account and joined this blog (first timer at this) specially to make this comment, I feel so strongly about it.
It reminded me of work done by first-year students on a mickey mouse Media Studies degree course at a mickey mouse university (last week it was a tech college). [I know about these, I used to work for one].
p.s. - don't get me going about the tutors who taught this!!!!!

I would also like to complain most strongly about the really short skirt Christine wasn't wearing tonight!

I just want to take exception to all the criticisms about the camera work on the mercenaries film. Usually I hate to miss any of the items on the show but this one provided me with a golden opportunity to make a cup of tea and a loo visit. It was almost as good as an advertising breakā¦. But I still think the director should be shot.

I have never seen such pathetic 'artistic' direction as was demonstrated in the camera work in the mercenaries feature last night - did anyone find the camera work acceptable?
Complain about this comment
The camera work on the mercenaries was ridiculous. Why is it that directors seem to think we continually need to have different camera angles? When someone is talking just one is enough. We don't leap about all over the place, peeping out from behind bushes when we talk to people do we.
Complain about this comment
What can be done about this? I agree with the very large number of complaints about the irritating camera work on the mercenaries item. In fact there are many programmes where this appalling camera and/or directing style has stopped me viewing as doing so is unpleasant and distracting. This is my first post on this site. Does anyone with influence at the BBC read these posts? Do I need to register a complaint somewhere else? Should all of the above compainants do so to get some notice taken?

I loved seeing Michael Bolton on The One Show, especially as i saw him perform at the Royal Albert Hall earlier in November. I was most upset to find that they didn't mention Michael performing at the Royal Albert Hall, no mention of where he is going to / up to next... and i was upset to ssee that Adrian and Christine didn't even show a copy of his new album despite mentioning that they had been listening to it! For other guests with books, cd's, new releases then they show them....why not for Michael?? please show it xxx
Also i was peeved that they had another guest on at the same time!!
I don't get to watch The One Show go out live otherwie i would of posted much sooner!!!!!!
