What did you think of The One Show? Guest: Leona Lewis

Adrian and Christine were joined in the studio by chart-topping singer Leona Lewis.
The Church of England is in the news, so Gyles Brandreth looked at its history.
Lucy Siegle told us about the germs we can pick up on a simple shopping trip.
The One Show's fundraising campaign for BBC Children in Need launched tonight. Michael Douglas and Lucy Siegle face the challenge of jumping from the UK's highest diving platform.
It's Garden Watch week! Mike and Miranda went to the busy market town of Andover to spot some wildlife.

Mmm - one sect of religious people squabbling with another... not news, definitely not news.

Christine has got too much make-up tonight, she's pretty enough without make-up artists thinking it's halloween too soon. Leave her natural.

hello bloggers,,,it is nice to be back.spent all weekend(well some of it) trying to get on site but it had crashed.
loads of emails to the one show team,,no reply.i asked them to put a message on the home page so people were aware that there was a fault.no they didnt do that.
do we really matter to them ?
on the rival channel 5 show they read out emails etc live on air,,,but no interactive feedback from the one show.

What the frak?
Another "OH MY GOD WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE FROM HORRIBLE DISEASES" piece of scaremongering. "Why can't the councils do mre?" asks Lucy. Because, love, we're all born with an immune system and, get this it's a cracker, WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO LIVE IN A STERILE ENVIRONMENT. It's unhealthy to have an unchallenged immune system; it redirects its attention elsewhere, viz the increase in asthma etc since we got rid of gastro-intestinal worms.
Poor quality, tabloid-level cheap journalism. Shame on you.

Hi...just wanted to query something on the show tonight from the piece on the anglican church. One of the interviewees...a lady broadcaster (I think that flashed up while she spoke) commented that for years, the Anglican church has for years been questionning whether it is part of the "christian church". Surely this was said in error...I am a member of the Church of Ireland, and I don't think that question has ever been raised in a church service or even crossed any of our minds! Of course the Anglican denomination is part of the Christian church, as is the Roman catholic denomination. Also, I think she should have made a difference between catholic and roman catholic church...Anglican liturgy proclaims our membership of the catholic church....which is not the same as the roman catholic church.

What utter rubbish. The catholic church has never been inclusive, it is the antithisis of inclusive and it makes my blood boil to hear such tosh. All this from one who isn't even religious!!

Pleasant watchable show-one remarkable thing, Adrian got a fit of the giggles!!-what next Nick Griffin singing a Stevie Wonder song?

the human body has billions of bacteria living on and in it. most of these help us to fend off the really bad ones, thus oversanitasation can make sure all the 'helpful' bacteria have been killed which leaves us open to the really bad ones. i'm surprised the university guy didn't mention it, it was emphasised to us by most of our microbiology lecturers - or was the story intentionally one sided to create a bit of drama?

It was nice to see Leona, she has always come across as shy, but, wouldn't you with Gyles Brandreth breathing down your neck? why does he always have to sit on top of the guests, it must be very off putting to the guests, what ever happened to the 2ft of personal space and all that. I also agree with Kevin Bennett, when we were kids playing in the mud with toy Soldiers (my brother and his mates) or picking up worms when helping our parents and grand parents in the garden was part of the fun, too much sterility in the world today, thats why so many bugs around.

Gyles Brandreth ......AH YES,,as someone said "he knows everyone".
did anyone read the letter he sent to simon cadell that was published in the daily mail?
he wrote it 5 years after he died(simon that is)
the cynical would say it was more to do with laying down subjects for the book he was to write.
not me of course,,,he just knows everyone

i hope leona's book is a little bit more interesting than she is....
yes she is a little shy but why was she on?
because she would entertain us?
because she would have some interesting comments that would stretch our imagination?
no,,,because she has a book to flog...that is a major problem with the one show.

The article about the young lad with brain damage was touching, but needed someone more heavyweight like the Michael Moseley, to conduct the interview.
The ex-copper, Rav Wilding may have got a bit part on Crimewatch, but he does not have the gravitas for this type of stuff.
Love Christines dress, just off to slip into something more comfortable before the wife gets back. Come on Highland Fling...share the gossip, who was he? a Northern Ireland player or Premier league, able to string a three word sentence together? Hope he wasn't from West Brom, poor Adrian will be besides himself.

Just read the article in the Mail on line.
Might be a good player, think there may be a gap in the intellectual level i.e Christine will be way out in front.

So, what does Lucy's piece show?
Well I guess if most of Which's keyboards have more germs than the average toilet AND their staff aren't falling ill everyday or dropping like flies then it doesn't matter two hoots. A bit like that daft Dettol advert.
And as already posted:- "Poor quality, tabloid-level cheap journalism".

Well brandrith was nearly on leonas lap but she didnt seem to say much think she must have had about five mines real airtime. Oh theres germs everywere what was the point of the item and what next that the heart pumps blood round the body.

Oh yes I agree with alex how come they didnt sort this site out when it crashed after all the money the bbc gets. Couldnt they get a web guy to sort it.

Also at times they ask people to email the show but dont seem to read out much feedback from viewers.

re #7 :,
He was simply producing a sensational story according to a highly selective 'One Show' interpretation of the facts. This is what they paid him to do. 'The One show' will never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

I was really fascinated about what I saw on the show tonight about the Copper door handle killing germs and found this site with more information www.copperinfo.co.uk/antimicrobial

wigglediggle .i believe the truth to be that the blogs were set up for one reason and one reason only.to stop real complaints.
if you let people think they have an interactive feedback system where they can make a point and the one show team will read it and react then those people if they are really unhappy complain on the blog not via the official complaint system.
at a stroke complaints are cut down....
i do not think anyone did anything when it crashed because they do not(the one show team)pay much attention to the blogs.
all that happens is that someone from the team every so often reads some of it to pick out something witty about adrian to put on the one show web show.
this blog is a way for us to pass time and have a natter with like minded people,,,no more than that

The young lad with the brain damage is my son Max Brimble, I think they used Rav for the interview as he has done other work on the One Show, My ex-wife said Rav was lovely! He left being a good friend to Max, so maybe a good choice.

BCFC_MassiveAttack......astroplums makes a valid point.
some people think an ex policeman who is not a trained journalist and has limited presentational skills is not the right choice for such important topics.
he may be lovely but he is not,in some people's opinion a good presenter.

I sure he was nice to your son. I just felt that such a piece may have been better served with a 'medical person', in that other folk in your/ your wifes position would have benefitted from the medical experience and advice of someone who had dealt with cases similar to that of your son, Max.
Hopefully, Children in Need will again come up with money to help the group/s who help so much in cases such as your sons.

astroplums...children with brain damage for whatever reason should not have to rely on the money raised by charity...this is 2009 not 1909.

The usual mix of potentially interesting items and indifferent presentation tonight. Why does Adrian insist on summarising the conclusion of each item with the same banal comments?
Agree with the comments about Giles Brandreth's over-familiarity with female guests. Someone should tell him to stop. At least he got the brush off from Elaine Paige who clearly objected.
Why have we missed the opportunity to have Adrian jump from the high diving board? Who decided that Lucy and Michael should suffer this? Children in Need would be much richer if Adrian were in the frame - millions would pay good money to see that.

Post 32, only if they drained the pool first, lol. All this fuss about a website going down is missing the probability that someone pressed the wrong button on Friday, then popped off home for the weekend. The team being so interested they didn't even notice 'til this evening! I too e-mailed them and was sooooooo surprised not to get an answer.

Agreed, but for some reason we need to keep supporting various charities. Shame that the NHS does fall short in many areas, particularly that of hospices.
I recently was involved with a hospice which relied solely on charity and did the most amazing work. Pity our taxes did not support these people.

Im not sure when CIN is this year but I guess probably two or three more weeks so plenty of time for those who wish to see Adrian doing something nasty, I imagine they'll save an A v C face-off till nearer the time. Also this has appeared at the top of the page:- Please note: Adrian and Christine like to feature your blog comments in The One Show Web Show. If you'd like a mention, Adrian requests that you add your genuine first name and location to your comment. - I havent seen it before so I think that answers the question as to why they dontread much out apart from on the Webshow - they want us to use our real names. When we stop hiding behind our user names, they'll start reading it out! (And no, Im not going to!)

I LOVE your show and watch it every night. Christine always looks so pretty in her outfits. Adrian is very funny but WHY OH WHY does he wear such BORING clothes? I can understand he has to wear a shirt but there are so many wonderful designer shirts he could wear with different patterns etc. to jazz things up a bit. Also, I notice his waist is spreading and hanging over his trousers lately. Tell him to smarten up wardrobe people!!!

42 AND 43-smart casual clothes for male staff seems to be a BBC thing-problem is it is not smart-generally slovenly men with open necked shirts, jeans trying to cover unruly tums etc-there seems to be a general feeling of who cares?-Saturdays Match of the day presenters are awful-on Sky all male presenters dress smartly with collar and ties.

Gyles did his usual grand job, showing how confused the present Catholic-Anglican issue is. But the historian was very sloppy. "Catholics burning Protestants, Protestants burning Catholics" is simply not true. Henry VIII hanged Catholics for treason, and burned Protestants for heresy. One one occasion he did both together, to make his point and rub it in.
His descendants carried on the same difference.
