Can someone please teach Alesha Dixon "English".
Constantly on Come Dancing we hear "you was" actually Alesha it's
"YOU WERE".
Then within a few seconds of opening her mouth this evening she said
"the people wasn't" Actually Alesha it's "the people weren't"

English stict to singing!

How sad that Alesha's horrific witch-like laugh stopped me watching one of my favourite programmes. I just couldn't take the cackle!! Please, please, keep her away from your sofa in future. It's enough we have to put up with her on SCD....that one's also a bone of contention with me. What was wrong with making Karen Hardy the female judge, at least she sounds credible!

Great stuff tonight-Alesha and her cackle,Adrian sending himself up blind say far mare about the British character than the BNP ever will.
I do think that the BNP deserve to be heard but they will always be a minority party-if they made progess with the voters their MPs would soon forget about their loathsome policies and like all politicians would concentrate on their main interest-themselves and their expenses!
More importantly A and C seem to be sitting closer and closer together-there was a ventriloquist years ago calle Ray Allen and Lord Charles, we seem to now have Christine B and Lord Chiles!

If we are running out of fish in the sea why does nobody notice the change in fishing practice that has taken place in the last 50 years. At one time fishermen used drift nets which hung just below the surface of the water to only catch mature fish. Now they all use trawl nets which scrape thw bottom of the sea, presumably damaging the habitat of young fish and the organisms which they feed on.

i have watched the one show since the day it started, i think now i will simply switch off after alesha dixon appeared tonight, cackling, guffawing and saying nothing of any substance, the only thing she did say was she turned up to strictly come dancing and said a few words, ie repeats what the other judges say, come on bbc get your act together

hokeykokeyalex - I do not agree with the BNP on all of their things and I am not some neo-fascist , I am just trying to convey my distain at the horrible double standards people have . If it had turned out that Boris ( Mayor ) had links to neo-nazi/fascist parties I am quite sure he would not have got in . However , Ken Livingstonr has links to communist/socialist parties , and we should never forget Communism was an incredibly murderous system , maybe not in origin but in nearly every way it has been implemented . The reason why skippers have caught their annual quota already is because of the ridiculous quotas set by the EU. The One Show should do a programme from Peterhead the biggest fishing port in Europe showing the hardships the EU are putting the fishermen through. If you were to speak to any skipper they would tell you none of them want to catch all the fish, they know they have to fish sustainably so that the industry has a future.

It's all very well your restaurateur banging on about eating oily fish e.g. herring. Where do we get it from? We live in Cornwall, virtually surrounded by sea, with important fishing ports like Newlyn. But...the fish either gets bought up to send to Europe or else goes up to the London restaurants at fancy prices or into the expensive places down here where the English have immigrated to make a lot of dosh catering to tourists. Us pensioners don't get a look in whilst you expense account holders shimmy in & out of your sushi bars and swank restaurants eating food we can't afford even if the few fishmongers left in Cornwall could afford to bid for it. Down here we are up against resource-guzzlers like Rick Stein in Padstein (once known as Padstow,)whose menu prices are mind-blowing.

I think Adrian should look a little closer to his own ancestors when criticising the BBC's right to invite, in the name of democracy, a legal political party to participate on "Question Time". According to BBC News online that, despite 14 years attempting a conciliation, there is a great risk of fighting breaking out in Bosnia mainly due to the intransigence of the Croatians. Also let him not forget that Croatia was a fascist country that committed many atrocities before becoming part of Yugoslavia. He like everyone on the electoral roll has a vote which they can give or not give to the BNP. Personally I would not give the BNP my vote but many may. That is called democracy. Something not found in fascist nor COMMUNIST states.

Re 19: agree with your post as I usually do, but may I suggest 'University Challenge' in your comment be replaced with 'Only Connect' (UC is very good but OC is the business... sorry - shameless plug for OC!).
I am NOT a fan of the dancing show and have never watched it, although I have heard Alesha Dixon's music; so I had never heard her speak until this evening. I thought the (afore-mentioned) 'cackle' would earn her some adverse comments, but I found her OK... I must be used to it what with Christine's laughing (which has decreased in recent times I believe).

Post 26, I live in Cornwall, and many of my friends have businesses in Padstow. They would be the first to tell you they have profited from Rick's presence in the town. There is obviously some resentment about his success, but that is the British disease, envy of the accomplishments of others.

Re: Cavity wall insulation report by Dom. Congratulations Dom & the team for a first class report in making the public aware of dampness caused by attempting to install cavity wall insulation to existing houses. Very brave of the team to go against the Government drive to insulate the cavities of older houses but they are quite correct when they say it ca cause major damp problems. I am a specialist surveyor in dampness and I see dampness problems due to cavity wall insulation time and again. To anyone reading withing to improve insulation to older houses do it by other means please. You should have also have mentioned that replacing cavity wall ties to properties with cavity wall insulation often results in debris (from hammer drilling to install such ties) sitting upon the insulation causing penetrating dampness makng the problem even worse and also condensation on the cold side of the insulation forms and trickles down the cavity. If condensate and penetrating dampness cannot readily evaporate externally it will tend to permeate internally and can even be driven internally by the sunshine upon the wall (known as reverse condensation). Suggest Dom also look into the cons of installing chemical damp proof courses and woodworm treatments when they are not required and replacement cavity wall ties that fail to tie the wall together when installed by cowboy contractors. The article on last night's show regarding fish sustainability was dreadfully researched and demonstrates clearly that this issue is not as black and white as Charles Clover, et al would like us to believe it to be. In short, the comments to Aldo Zilli regarding monkfish and Dover Sole were wrong and the entire premise of the restaurant grading scheme, whilst well intentioned is neutered by the lack of belief the founders of the scheme demonstrate in their own argument.
Whilst both Dover Sole and Monkfish are on the MCS list of fish to avoid, the MCS are geographically explicit in catch areas to avoid (along with a lot of other fish on the list).
Dover Sole has an MSC accredited fishery in Hastings, Sussex (MSC being the scheme to which Clover holds up as the pinnacle of sustainability) so one would assume that sole from this fishery can be eaten "guilt free" - despite it being on the 'avoid' list.
Monkfish are listed as to be avoided if caught from Spanish and Portugese fisheries - on account of the overfishing of these species in these countries' waters. Monkfish from the SW UK and Icelandic fisheries are in reasonably good shape.
If you had looked at the disclaimer on the fish2fork website, you would see that, despite trying to appear all above board, the owners of the site (and I assume Clover himself) do not have the courage of their convictions to stand by anything they say on the site. That the One Show feel fit to pronounce on an issue that does not even have the support of those raising it smacks of bad journalism.
As a consultant in the fisheries sector, I share the excellent aims of Clover et al - indeed it is vital to the future of the industry and a lot of the points raised by the campaign regarding the threat to fish stocks are valid.
To set up a grading system for restaurants on the basis of a single questionnaire (or indeed assumptions(!) if no reply is recieved), smacks somewhat of desperation or even defamation. Coupled to a view of fisheries science that no-one associated with the project will stand behind, means that this looks more like a publicity stunt than an empirical method of improving fisheries management - which is something everyone wants.
The scheme is a good idea but appalingly executed. They say that knowledge is power. On this issue at least it appears that the BBC is perverting it's power and misleading its viewers.

I have read the websites you mention a several times over the years. I find the comments on them variously, misleading, scurrilous, dissembling, mendacious, risible, infantile and worthless. The point I am trying to get across is that alot of people brush the BNP to the side without actually knowing what they stand for or what they beleive in becuase the press propoganda tells them so and paints a picture of the party and the people that follow them as skinhead Nazi's wearing Doc Martins beating people up.

We are all racist. All right, let me use another word. We are all tribal. That is the nature of the human race. If you don't believe me then explain football fans. There is nothing intrinsically evil in this. Unless, unless We set upon others for no other reason than that they are from a different tribe. That is evil. But let's set that aside and talk about The One Show: the poor man's Panorama. I think The One Show should feature more items on the South of England. I am tired of their constant promotion of Manchester and the rest of Yorkshire.

That's all I was aking for.
Unfortunatly by the sounds of it i don't have a better way of forming opinions than you do, alot of political "propoganda" i read / watch tends to very one sided material - either far right, far left or down the middle.
It tends to be "He said this" - "no i didnt, he sadi this" etc etc.
Alot of people tend to make decisions about parties that are anything other than "down the middle" by listening to propoganda from other sides, which alot of it is untrue ot twisted to fit the opposite of their own view.

Virtual_Doctor...i consider it vile to be convicted of inciting racial hatred and be sentenced to 9 months suspended for 2 years.
if you believe in the british justice system and you accept that such crime is wrong then that contributes to my forming an opinion.

Someone who used to think that way isn't great, but the key words are "used to". so i could get over that.
Someone who beleived that Britain should be all white in 2009 would not get my vote, becuase for 1 reason. It's not possible or logical for this to happen, and if a politician (from any party) beleived this, then they are not thinking straight and logical.

Who is responsible for this? I need to have a word. Last week there was a public photograph in the press, of you walking with AC, you looked 'sexy', no eye make up, or, very little, no heavy lipstick, you were very natural, lovely, as you are.
So, ease off with all those colours, especially around the eyes & mouth, let us see their natural beauty, along with all else, as such.
Now, as far as AC is concerned, ask him to smile, laugh, a little more, and you just sit and look gorgeous, guiding/helping the show along. Tell him I'm on high, after we beat MU, yesterday.
I was just starting my dinner tonight, and you appeared............remember me from my fish & salad dinner, having to watch stomach turning film on your show last June.

I abhor the racialist tendencies of the BNP, but I think Adrian Chiles comments were totally out of order, because he showed himself to be as equally bigoted as the BNP with his derogatory comments, as did David Dimbleby on Question Time. Whether we like it or not the BNP will grow in strength, because they are the only Party to offer the British public what they want. The bulk of the UK public are against uncontrolled immigration, AND the handing over our sovereignty to the EU. Until the mainstream parties do what they are supposed to do in a democracy, which is represent the will of the majority, we will see growing support for the BNP, because they are the only Party to offer the British public what they want. I believe that the vast majority of the British public do not share the racist views of the BNP, but they are prepared to vote for them in the absence of any other Party giving the British public a voice.

NormanUtton,,,,,,it is as simple as that.the main stream parties have no opinions on immigration that most agree on so they are siding with the bnp even though at heart they do not like what they stand for.
it is frightening that a horrible party like the bnp can be supported for that reason.......adolf in germany ????
