Lucy Siegle met a One Show viewer who had been burgled. However, their home contents insurer refused to payout claiming that they did not have the correct lock on their front door.
And Ellie Harrison visited a 'Priory for pets' in Dawlish, Devon.

Well, My Husband works for the very esteemed bank and I think its not fair on him, when He really work hard and I mean really work hard! and I can see its really stressful for Him ! he rearly sees his children everynight , they go to bed before he come in! and I think its not he or people who works to his level are not responsible for the fisco we face today its the top executives who made wrong decisions ?( who also get huge bonuses!!!) so why should he should suffer? for his hard work???

Really enjoyed watching the show yet again. Useful advice on the locks for doors, really good to see Holly again after all these years, and what a lovely dog and yes I would pay £12,000 for my dog.
Would it be possible to ask where Christene bought her dress as my husband thought it was lovley.

Angelica was surprised, not only did a person of mixed race live and die in fourth century Roman York, but that person was not a slave! All this proves is her ignorance of British history. Of course people travelled around from one part of the Roman Empire to others. Could the One Show please raise its expectations of viewers' levels of intelligence to something above pre school levels?

Must avoid the politics of envy after a video report full of the politics of envy. Frankie points to nurses pay but the average nurses pay as of Sep 08 was £31,600, well above national average. Nurse consultants start on a basic salary of £50k. Last year was the first year ever when several nurses earned over £100k.
It is true that many junior nurses and doctors start on low pay but the same applies to many junior staff working in the City. If people don't want to be judged by the highest earners in their profession then they have to be careful not to demonise many low paid City workers because of the earnings of an elite minority.
As for stress, we were all being told that should the banks collapse it would be the end of civilisation as we know it. How's that for stress! Even under normal conditions I'd be stressed trading in huge amounts of other people's money. The real issue is not how much is earned in bonuses but what the benchmarks are for earning bonuses, long term goals preferred over short term goals.
Jan Moir clearly got her facts wrong even before you consider her a homophobe or not. It happens but the BBC aren't saints. When will the BBC discuss their demonisation of Israel and Jews as people who indiscriminately bomb women and children when even the UN has had retract its wild claims. What about the double standard on treatment between Carol Thatcher and Anton Du Beke.

Very much a sense of deja vue tonight-I visited my bank today and have been a customer for many years-the staff still seem as smug and complacement as ever as though last year never happened-good work to be in though-do well and the bonus is yours-do badly and the taxpayer picks up the bill and pays you a bonus!
Another insurance company playing the "heads we win tails you lose" game-the couple had not locked their inside door properly-you can guarantee that they could have locked the inside door and had a security man outside and they would have been told ,no payment because the outside door was not locked-also whats this special condition if the house had been burgled before-how do you know?
On the bright side Chris looked lovely-has she been auditioning for "Chicago"

Why was Ellie wearing a very large CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) logo on her t-shirt on her report this evening? Maybe she just thought it was a pretty pattern? or is too young to know what it means? - or maybe the BBC is surreptitiously putting forward a political opinion? Does the BBC support CND?

I fully agree with Minnie33 above. Why was Ellie wearing a CND logo T shirt. Adrian normally makes comments like there are other order shops when Holly mentioned Argos. In fact the presenters are so patronisingly PC in everything they say and do. A question, if people disliking gays are called homophobes then are gays disliking straights called heterophobes.

labrat,,,do not think that holly johnson mentioned nurses at all,he compared with ambulance drivers and pointed out that they do not get vast amounts of money and asked if there was anything that causes more stress(than being an ambulance driver).

I was concerned at Adrian's comments during his conversation with Holly Johnson about Stephen Gately and homophobia. He commented that racism was not a problem. To say is comment was ill thought through is an understatement. Did he not see the BBC's Panarama programme last evening. I think an apology to all of those who experience racism on a daily basis is in order.

So your husband works hard. So do many of us, but we don't get bailed out by the taxpayer when we get it all wrong, we lose our jobs and the company goes to the wall.
Most of the high earners in the banking system are just gambling other peoples money, something that any fool can do...over-rated and overpaid non-entities.
Given what has happened in the banking system in the past couple of years, I think that Nick Leeson should be given a Queens pardon.

14 and 16-just a bit of good news-BBC West reported tonight that the young boy, pretending to have a gun and the thug who hit the moslem reporter in the documentary last night have both been arrested-my view throughout that programme was that they were serious criminal offences and should be addressed-Southmead is a huge Bristol housing estate and has the tolerant, the intolerant and groups of teenagers who think they own the place, the same as anywhere else.

Although we normally really enjoy The One Show, tonight we were sickenened by Adrian and Christine fawning over Holly Johnson as
though he were royalty or something special! He is no more special than any of us, be we hetrosexual, white/black, male/female, Christian/Muslim, or in any other of the pigeon holes society likes to put us in! We thought it helped create a very bad example of this societys inequality, where hetrosexuals and the value of marriage between hetrosexuals have been trodden into the mud and others elevated to a higher status! We don't agree with the hysteria over Jan Moir, for somebody to die as Stephen did, is not natural, whatever his sexuality, which has nothing to do with it! Jo & Phil

The female reporter wearing a CND log T shirt is out of order in the BBC rules of unbiased reporting. To blatently wear a logo emblazended T shirt of a political movement, anti governmental and unpopular in the main, is not in the spirit of the BBC which is fudned by the tax paying public. This article was not political, had no reason to show this logo and was insnesitive to the military, political and public sector workers. THe BBC editor of this article should have realised the insensitivity the wearing of such a shirt would have on memebers of the general public. The niaivity of the reporter is no excuse for the incompetence of the editorial staff of the OB article.

according to what we know IT WAS A NATURAL DEATH,,,that does not mean that there was nothing wrong with him it means he had an underlying heart condition that caused his death,a natural thing in his body.

Also a dig at the bankers again pointless most of us already now that the bonus culture wouldnt go which ever govermnets in the bankers and people in power always win. Just pointless gestures was that put in for the producers to feel close to the people who pay the licence fee for there amazing wages. Problem with comments on the show seem to be split with some, rightly, commenting on the subject of the pieces, whilst other folk seem to be unable to stop criticising the presenters or contributing presenters in quite a vitriolic way.
Yes, I have occasionally been critical of Christine's garb, but hopefully not in a vicious way, but some seem unable to stop themselves from having a pop at A&C just for the sake of it.
Anyway, I have a cold just now, so no reason for Christine not to have one.

25 - agreed. 27 & 28 - agreed again - he said kids in school dont seem to call each other names based on race (although granted Im sure there are places where this happens) but they may still use derogatory terms based on homophobia. I agree as my nephew's friends at school were definitely using the term gay as a derogatory term, probably before they even had a clue what it meant. The offence over the article on Gateley was the nasty assumption that his death was related to his lifestyle, before the results of the medical examination had been made public.

I had to change channels - again. What answer did Mr Childs expect from Holly Johnson ? - he obviously wasn't going to defend or support Jan Moir. He got the one sided 'balanced' answer he and I expected. Then we had the biased, one sided City report on bonuses. How about a feature comparing Mr Child's and Ms Blakely's pay packets to ordinary television licence payers' - I bet everyone thinks they're reeeal value for money !!

i believe your point is that gay people have a status because of the media that has elevated them above "straight" people who have a husband or wife,have a house and mortgage and 2,4 children.

Adrian and Christine's fawning over that dreadful fellow Johnson was downright embarrassing. Jan Moir's excellent article was giving her point of view, something that is not encouraged by the oh so PC BBC unless it corresponds to their PC ideology.
As for the "Relax" T-shirts worn by the crowd in the background, what if one of the crew had refused to wear one. Would that person have been fired by BBC's PC Police?

I am now 73 years old and at the age of 16 I was taught, at my local grammar school, to read all newspapers and then reach my own conclusions. These newspapers, available in the school library, went from the "Daily Worker" to The Times (then a serious newspaper and not the present rag following blindly the instructions of its owner).However to reach one's own conclusion that meant having a modicum of intelligence. Something that seems to be lacking throughout the BBC hence their too often one sidedness. Discussion and divergence seems to be forbidden.

There are aspects of certain lifestyle and sexuality that a vast number of people find abhorrent but many of these people are being forced into accepting it by a Government that does not only seem to be promoting it but almost making it "compulsory" with the BBC being used as it's all too willing forelock tugging PC tool.

The arrogance, greed and selfishness of the bankers interviewed on last night's 'One Show' was staggering - have these grossly overpaid people no shame? Do they not realise that because of their actions large numbers of their fellow citizens have lost their jobs, had their savings decimated and now face severe cuts in government and council services? The rest of the population will be paying for the bankers' folly for a generation, yet the bankers have the audacity to whinge and whine that they "deserve their bonuses". Like hell they do! Sandi Toksvig, the chairman of BBC Radio 4's 'The News Quiz', was correct when she said, "Bankers should regard it as a bonus that they have not been lynched." Very true.
The Government should force bankers down to Earth with a very big bump. It should impose a substantial windfall tax on both the banks and bonus payments to staff. In future, the average of bonuses in the banking sector should not be allowed to exceed the average of bonuses paid across all other sectors of the British economy - after all the former produce no wealth themselves, their wealth is entirely dependent upon the wealth generated by those industries and businesses that genuinely produce an end product. Banking is not an end in itself, it is just a means to an end. It should be the servant of the rest of the economy (as it once was), not vice versa. The banking sector has a grossly over-inflated opinion of its own importance and worth, and the levels of salaries and bonuses paid are totally unjustified.
The chairman of the Financial Services Authority (FSA), Lord Turner, was entirely correct when he described much of what modern banks do as "socially useless" - far too many bankers are essentially economic parasites who have contrived a system that allows them to skim off money from the profits of genuinely useful industries (for example, through ludicrous schemes such as 'micro-trading' etc). The banks should be split up to separate their core business (borrowing and lending) from riskier practices ('casino banking'), as stated by the Governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King. The entire City of London is too big and powerful and needs to be reined in so that it acts in the interests of the country as a whole and not just in the interests of its members.

what an excellent blog.
i listen to a radio station on a morning called talksport.
on the alan brazil show they have a financial "expert" called henk potts.he is what i describe as the hooray henry champagne swilling london placed bankers .
he works for barclays wealth.
if you listen to him he regularly plays up the high life,see's nothing wrong with big bonuses as he says that the banks are generating the wealth of our nation.
he enjoys travelling the world and entertaining people with the money of barclays because he knows they make vast profits.
as long as share holders make a good return he is happy to get huge bonuses.
he is so out of touch........
we need a fairer banking system for all,i have no problem with more state control in what is such an important sector.
bonuses above a certain amount should be taxed at 75% and should the bank or financial institution within 3 years return a loss then the money should be returnable or "clawed back"......short term profit can earn huge bonuses yet losses do not see negative salary clawbacks,,,why ????
the system allows reckless banking - we need to see wealth distrubuted throughout the country,,,not just canary wharf

highland fling.i have strong opinions,like everyone i have no devine right to be right.
we have not always seen eye to eye...but i have found you honest and have never had to press you for answers you will not give and i do not call people cowards without much thought.
it is just SOME PEOPLE say things then just resort to blanking tactics and insults.
i believe we have people writing on this blog with extreme right wing views that hate gay people and think they can get away with using the "lifestyle" comment as a cover all term.
i am not gay,,,i do not have a vast amount of gay friends and do not have a particular agenda.
i just hate bigots..............

Post 65,highlandfling, only on the odd occasion [5 nights a week], the only reason for watching the show[apart from aged old relative who has a hissy fit if we don't]is to participate in the blogging later! Sorry nicked one of your exclamation marks, lol, but I really needed it then.

highland fling ......it will probably be raised after the show has aired.
it will be the usual way.....a quick summary adrian style and ask the guest who only wants to flog a book to comment..
they will mumble a 12 word reply then adrian will tell us we are off to dorset to hear about lesser spotted frogs learning to walk again after road accidents.......then we see the same lisping suspects tell us that spiders are interesting

jadedoldie, You must be a friend of alex, the evidence of the correspondence shows he became insulting, was ranting, was making false assumptions about me and lost it! That's why I supplied no more information so it could be distorted to suit his point of view!
You're very perceptive! The tongue in cheek [almost famous] refers to the fact I'm a very well known letter writer and I'm afraid a lot of the ranting from alex wouldn't even make the paper. This is my first try at blogs and if this the standard of discussion to be expected, then
it is my last!

Thank you for being the sole person to support me against the rude, abusive and uncalled for hectoring by alex. Do you have a problem with him assuming only his view is of any value and that he runs the page? Maybe he should be renamed jiminy Cricket as he wants to be everybodies conscience! Is this the normal way of blogs, or is it possible to have a sensible discussion without people going off on one?
Thanks again for a welcome in what appears to go between being either a hostile club, or the usual apathy we expect from the British.

Although I do enjoy the show, I wonder if Adrian Chiles would agree that it's a bit rich him talking about "the politics of envy" (regarding bankers bonuses) when he (and the others) are worth a small fortune...

regdodniffoC .i suppose what you like about letter writing is that it is not interactive,you can suggest an untruth and it isnt really questioned.
the blog is supposed to be friendly but from time to time it gets a little heated.
if you cannot cope with that go back to the safe option of writing to the daily mail..they love white straight males who live in the south east and would bring back hanging for people who do not conform to the "norm".
regarding jadedoldie,,,as she says i have had many a verbal scrap.
i do not want to get into the name calling,your names have been silly ones where as i have tried to confine to specific terms that describe,,if i have been wrong then sorry.
but that is debate,,,when you do not like what is put you hide behind a load of made up reasons.
i will not ask you to answer the specific points as it is obvious you will not answer.
i hope you stay with the blog,,,i think in a rather different way - the british are great but you insult them ALL.
I WOULD RATHER THINK YOU PREFER THE "USUAL BRITISH APATHY" you claim. then you can write your famous letters and nobody will question them.
myself i would rather be honest and put my points to the test of public scrutiny whether i agree or disagree with the great british public.

hokeykokeyalex and friend jadedoldie, Letter writing is better, because you're not allowed to run off at the mouth, make false assumptions, false and unsubstantiated accusations, call people 'cowards' and 'gutless', then suddenly exhibit delicate feelings when the recipient turns on you! Your flights of fancy as to where I write to, what I write about and the reception I may get, shows an aptitude for fairy stories. Maybe with that aptitude, plus being able to turn
anything on its head, you would make an excellent career in politics.
As for me I'll return to the more sane, logical and rewarding letter writing, you'll be glad to hear! Obviously blogs are not for logical, sensible and reasoned debate. Dealing with you, it's all fly off the handle, muddy the waters, fire off in all directions and all cliques stick together against the foreigner in our midst! How dare he disturb our comfort zone!

jadedoldie ....what can i say about regdodniffoC,,,he obviously see's himself as something rather above us normal bloggers(and indeed above the rest of the british public),just read his contributions.remember british public according to regdodniffoC you all suffer apathy !!
he also describes him self as a famous letter writer-i am almost chuckling to myself as i write this.
