What did you think of The One Show? Guest: Alexandra Burke
Adrian and Christine were joined in the studio by Alexandra Burke.
Zoe Pemberton got a mention. The ten year old attempted to sell her granny on an auction website. So, we have to ask...
Lucy Siegle delved into the organ donation debate.
'Where Did You Go My Lovely?' asked Peter Sarstedt in his 1969 pop hit. Des Coleman found out where.
In South Wales, Dom Littlewood met police tackling uninsured drivers.
And in the penultimate 'Building Our House' episode, Jonathan Foyle told us about fireplaces and their 18th century origins.

I tryed to sell gordon brown but had no bids lol

Gordon Brown is worth about -£2,000,000,000,000 and we're the ones who are already paying for him and his failures.
It doesn't happen often but well done to The One Show for accurately portraying the deeply flawed and ineffective presumed consent proposals. Just a shame the BBC went full out to promote it when the they were first published and did nothing until now to discover the reality behind the proposals.

I still have Peter Sarstedts record from 1969 'Where did you go to my lovely' what a classic!

Good show.
I enjoyed the re-designing of the pop music with the accordian.
But I would like to see a recorder doing it instead.

the issue about uninsured drivers,as i see it does cost the normal road user money in terms of us paying for them, but i believe it is incorrect to say uninsured drivers cause more deaths or that they are more dangerous!
most are under the age of 21, well most 21 years old just got they license, therefor maybe a bit lead footed, and can't afford insurance yet, so are we saying that they should be off the road, fine raise the age of which we can get a license then maker it 21, it will make the roads safer and less people on the roads!

wigglediggle....thanks to years of tory rule everyone who used to create, manufacture or produce something now works in service industry call centres keeping foriegn producers in profit.
what price do we put on that ?????

Re the discussion on donor consent, it may be of interest to people that you can donate your whole body to medical research, which both my mother and husband chose to do and which, in due course, I have chosen to do too. It is very easy to obtain a form from any GP or indeed direct from the regional shcools of anatomy.
On a lighter note, the interview with Peter Sarstedt was fun but it may not be very well known that Peter's brother was also a very succesful singer in the 60's under the name of Eden Kane. It may be fun to do an interview with him too. I seem to remeber that there was a third brother but his name escapes me.

Good show tonight-bit of nostalgia-where do you go to-what a lovely song fron the 60s-Peter Sarstedt looked very mediterranean, but was from Croydon! Alexander turned x-factor on its head last year with her candyman song and she seems very bubbly and pleasant.
7-if I am involved in a road accident which is not my fault I want to recover my losses-if it is some youth with no money I have no chance of doing that-also if that person drives until 21 years old without insurance, they have not built up any no claim bonus so their insurance will still be out of their reach-they will therefore carry on driving without insurance and gamble that they will not be stopped-there is no excuse at all for driving without insurance and the police clampdown is welcomed.

Sadly the figures of uninsured drivers does not surprise me. In July our life was turned upside down. My boyfriend was hit by an uninsured driver who wasn't looking where he was going and my boyfriend who is normally a very active person has been in a wheelchair. He's been lucky that it's not permanent but it's been a long 3 months and it's not over yet.

All these uninsured drivers: Why not organise with the petrol stations - most of which have cameras already, to alter their cameras to be the same as police have. Cameras are connected to the pumps - no insurance = no fuel.
I know insurance is expensive for some, but when the fine is only £200 but insurance costs much more you can see the incentive for taking a chance. Fine needs to be double what the insurance would've cost so incentive works the other way. Up to our lovely magistrates / judges I'm afraid - so don't know why I'm even bothering to write this!
If the rest of us can stop supplementing the law breakers maybe we can start reducing the costs for youngsters - bit ridiculous - £800 car = £3000 insurance.

Have to say, I had never seen Alexandra Burke before tonight, but very nice she was.
Loved that Peter Sarstedt song.....I just about remember it, from when it first came out.

And another thing...
Crushing good cars in a recession - why?!! Some of those cars are perfectly good cars - or at least have good engines or gear boxes etc.
By all means take the car off them - but take it to a scrap yard controlled / operated by police. Get the parts off the cars, sell them on ebay or whatever - money goes to compensate those hit by the uninsured.

Well next election it doesnt matter who you vote for as nothing really changes. We can look at both partys and all of the political system and with the expenses row etc. They all are the same and if you look at both nothing changes for the better there both sell outs with there own agenda good show tonight but I agree about the cars being crushed can't they have police auctions and sell them to good owners who would insure the cars vans etc.

people who suffer my blogs know i bang on about the one show bias towards london and anywhere that can be reached in an hour from the capital.
tonight was no different.
i ask "when will a one show be aired that does not have a london topic" ? i always answer "never".
then we get watchdog on the same side,,,same bbc...same bias.
on the rogue traders part they even said it themselves,,"here we are in essex..again" they said."we seem to spend a lot of time in essex" they added.
turned it off...they do not leave the south east...just like the one show

Nice show tonight...what a difference the guest makes to the whole atmosphere.
Tomorrow should be great with Stephen Fry (another southern HokeyK!) a brilliant raconteur.

Whilst i do not in any way condone driving whithout insurance it comes as no suprise to me that there is an increase. my feelings go out to some through no fault of their own who have a difficult choice wether to put food on the table or pay rent etc,and find there is not enough money left to pay for insurance.
Young people leave school and are told to find employment,in order to get to work they need transport most start on the minimum wage or leave college already paying off debt, how can they afford to insure a vehicle unless they have parents who can afford to contribute.
The average insurance cost for a young driver is 1-2 grand a year. why are they penalised when all they have done is passed their test if they have an accident whithin the first year then they should be hit with higher premiums but not when they have done nothing wrong and spent alot of money passing their test.
It is insurance companies that are to blame for being greedy and using every excuse in the book to increase premiums to maximise profits and forcing people to take risks with dreadful consequences, the whole insurance industry should be investigated by the OFT.

aimsco....i like stephen fry as well....
can i ask you are you from the south east of england?
do you see the point i am making and how annoying it is ?
it is not right to have such a southern/south east bias and to keep having london based guests.
just imagine if the show was from manchester and that the bbc constantly gave us the manchester view of what is happening in the country, but presented it as though they were not being biased ????
it would be wrong.
an opinion from you would be really appreciated.

Re 9: The youngest brother is Robin Sarstedt (born Clive Robin Sarstedt) who assumed the recording name Wes Sands and later Clive Sands.

Post 17, as if we would suggest you "bang on" mate, lol. If you look on a map, printed outside the M25 is the legend Here be dragons. My partner is a Londoner, and when I first met him he thought a field was the number of horses entered in a race! These city folk are uncomfortable outside the magic corridor,do not torture them by requiring them to break new and uncharted territory.

I'd never heard of Peter Sarstedt before tonight's show. Seems like a nice bloke - not a bad song, either.
Enjoyed the penultimate part of Jonathan Foyle's look at architecture... 'Tis nice to learn about the finer points of history...

Re 20 HokeyK
No I am not from the South, although I lived in London for many years and have returned up north.
Hokey, it has never been any different, London is where the whole caboodle is run from and although I can understand how you feel, it ain't going to change any time soon. Anyway, just let those who think life finishes at the Watford Gap remain unaware that the quality of life can be a whole lot better with a bit of space.
One good point though, neither of the presenters is a southerner, so that is a plus and I just love Christines mild Irish accent... a great change from the sharpness of the southerners.

During the article on uninsured drivers Dom stated 25% of road users under 21 were insured. I have no doubt this is true. However, he failed to balance this by discussing the blatant age and sexual discrimination, by insurance companies, against young male drivers. I know from personal experience my 19 year old (sensible student son) is looking at £2,000 per year to purchase insurance. What this means in practice is law abiding poorer people like us put off driving to the mid twenties and less virtuous put two fingers up and drive anyway.

Love the One Show but hate the "American Style" live audience/people in the backgrounds' howling and screeching when people are introduced! What's wrong with a hearty round of applause and if anything else is required, some cheers! But please, not the high pitched screeching!
On the London bias issue, can't agree, I believe that the whole country gets a fair billing, as for BBC bias in shows what about previous shows like Nationwide, Pebble Mill at One and isn't the latest Titchmarsh item also from Birmingham?
