What did you think of The One Show? Guest: Barry Humphries

The One Show Team | 11:59 UK time, Friday, 4 September 2009

Adrian and Christine were joined by comedian Barry Humphries. He's very close to Dame Edna Everage, megastar and icon.

Drinking Banning Orders (so-called booze ASBOs) come into effect this week in England and Wales. Lucy Siegle, in Watford, found out more.

Gyles Brandreth visited the sandy beaches and picturesque harbours of the English Riviera, the place that inspired author Agatha Christie.

In Birmingham, our consumer crusader Dom Littlewood investigated a loophole in the law. One Show viewer Kevan Harrison was left out of pocket when he thought he was covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.

And finally, Phil Tufnell stopped off at the Penshaw Monument in Tyne and Wear.

Have a great weekend, we'll see you on Monday.

Dom said that if you buy a flight from a travel agent and the airline goes bust you are not covered, but if you buy one of the agents own packages you are. Does he mean you are not covered if you buy a package from a major tour operator through a local independant travel agent you are not covered.

Please ask Barry Humphries why he cancelled the Manchester show? I had the best tickets, and its been cancelled. I'm his number one fan and have been for years. I'm gutted, and ask Dom what I can do about it - I bought the tickets on a credit card - can I get tickets for another show somewhere else? How does his consumer thing help me, the disappointed customer. Tell Dame Edna she's wonderful and I have a garden full of gladi's in her honour! thanks

Fine show, love to hear Christine enjoying a laugh. But about the Sunderland bit, you should consider the Book Alice in Sunderland and the author, Bryan Talbot as a possible guest

BBC1 is now wall to wall rubbish but The One Show shines out like a beacon. Cheap (I hope) because the celebs are there to plug a book or tour, also the presenters whilst overpaid will not be on a Ross daylight robbery, it is interesting and nicely put together. This is high praise given that I remember 'Tonight' in the 1950s. Barry Humphries was a delight this evening.

A very enjoyable One Show this evening. Barry was a great guest and given plenty of time tonight between reports. Lucy Siegle has grown on me; sharp witted and bright, a top journalist. Also thoroughly Giles Brandreth's Agatha Christie piece. He's a treasure.

The roofless temple in the North-East reminds me of the National Monument on Carlton Hill in Edinburgh. Local legend tells that it was supposed to be a copy of the Parthenon. After Edinburgh had run out of money for the project, the City of Glasgow Council apparently offered to cover the shortfall, but this largesse was seen as an affront to the pride of the capital city and was rejected. The result is a temple frontage with nothing else.

Excellent show this evening... nearly on a par with the Shane Richie One Show. Barry Humphries was a highly enjoyable guest, and Christine, just as in the afore-mentioned SR show, was very quick-witted with her quips. And the Humphries/Siegle interaction was also hilarious.

Re 4: I share all these sentiments.

Re 5: laughing hyena - LOL! But we love our laughing hyena! Keeo on laughing!

I like Doms items but I am a bit uncertain about service providers backing down "because we're on the tele"-I have been with MBNA for years and they are fair but are sticklers for the rules-in Doms case it was obvious that the customer was not eligible for S75 cover in those circumstances-if MBNA assessed that the good publicity outweighed the money it paid out then surely that breached the BBC rules on advertising.

Don mentioned that secondary card holders are not covered. I contacted Tesco finance and they confirmed that all valid purchase on an account are covered irrespective of whom placed the order. They stated it was the account that was always covered. I trust he has not unleashed a wave of hysteria among card holders regarding this information?

Yes Dudeken I totally agree with you regarding comment no. 5 made by Mariaalice. I've been thinking 'well I wouldn't want to be stuck in a lift with you!' I don't see Adrian's manner as moody, I appreciate that he has a dry sense of humour which happens to be very funny, and which thankfully Christine understands also. I'm so pleased these two are back, they bring a lot of happiness into people's homes.

What a fabulous week it has been on The One Show. Christine and Adrian have been simply marvellous. It has been a joy to watch. Thank God they're back and keeping us company as the dark evenings start to roll in. As for comment No 5....I'm guessing that's Myleenes mum writing. No disrespect...last week was truly woeful without A+C. I'm appalled to have switched on BBC1 Lottery show and there was Myleene again. Does she ever stay at home and be a mum?

Love The One Show, brilliant. I think Dom Littlewood said (apologies if I am not quite correct)that under the consumer protection act in some circumstances a second named person on a credit card account does not have the same rights as the principal card holder. My wife and I share the same card so I rang Barclaycard to check. To be fair the person I spoke to was not familiar with the details of the Act but did say that in event of any dispute with a supplier Barclaycard would treat the second named holder the same as the first. However, if both users sometimes make purchases of over £100 is it adviseable to have separate card accounts? Thank You

Adrian Chiles had gravitas whilst working on 'Working Lunch' he seems to have lost the plot!

Nos 16 and 24-interesting points but make sure you check the written part of your contract-if it did come to a dispute and any of us mentioned a discussion with a call centre worker, the company would just say "prove it"-some calls are recorded but very few so the odds are it would just be your word against theirs.
