Mark Williams investigated why there is a shortage in police detectives across the country.
A snappy little dog named Dora was the focus, as Ellie Harrison's tried to help Dora learn how to behave.
Dom Littlewood met a lady who had been a victim of bank account takeover fraud.
And you may have heard about the BBC's new series called My Story which hopes to tell Britain's most remarkable life stories. Today Natasha Wood told us how her challenging life has had audiences rolling in the aisles. If there's a story in you.....

Can you say to the presenters that being a detective is not a promotion, it is a specialism, just like many other specialisms in the Police Service. To call a move to CID a promotion denigrates all the good work carried out by many other uniformed officers. I have done both and the detective role is neither glamourous nor particularly difficult compared to some other jobs within the service.

The shortage of detectives issue has really annoyed me. The article talked about promotion to detective - this really annoys all uniform constables, because you don't get promoted to detective, no more than you get promoted to traffic, of any other Police Constable role, which might be why detective feel they are better than other bobbies. This isn't the case, so if you can put this right, then perhaps you might get rid of the fallacy, its a media driven thing that purports a detective to be better then the rest, when are part of a team!. And is say this from 23 years service, all of which has been in uniform.

Going from uniform to CID is NOT a promotion as many people think

again mis information by the media
uniformed officers the backbone of the service only get promotion to sergeant then inspector, never to another department, when will the media ie the bbc get their facts straight, also cid dont work 24/7 like uniform
will this be addressed by christine

I agree that it should be communicated that the move to Detective is not a promotion. I have been both a uniform officer and a detective and a major issue that officers don't want the move to detective that as a uniform officer you are give a Special Priority Payment of £1,200 per year but you lose that as a trainee detective, also if you move to a specialism in the CID such as Child Abuse or Domestic Abuse they take that amount form you as compared to 'main office' work. More pressue but less pay, how can this be right??

i have wanted to be in the police / cid for years i am a law abiding citizen that is more then happy to work every minute of the day but unfortunately because i have some tattoos that i could cover up with a long sleeve shirt im not allowed in, so how can they moan about shortages when they wont let people in who are generally interested in the first place just because of how they look underneath their clothing
Complain about this comment
To bronzepinkpanther There is no restriction on visible tattoos, only if they are of an offensive nature

Re Philmo 3
Steady on Philmo, hope you don't get too angry down the nick and p.s. don't trust the spellchecker.
Doesn't matter, we got the point and you're right to tell the media how annoying they can be with their mis-information.

1. Tommy Steele is a national treasure. Why invite such a great man on to the show then hardly speak to him. It was a great opportunity missed.
2. Dom Littlewood suggested taking on a credit card but not using it until absolutely necessary. My son did this last year and now has to pay an ever increasing charge for not using it.
3. Attachment to CID is not a promotion in the police service as stated by your presenter. It is a specialisation just like traffic and dogs.

Sorry about that bronzepinkpanther, keep trying, sometimes it might just be one individual in recruitment who has a small mind. The job needs people who are positive like yourself but maybe have been deemed 'alternative' in the past. Good Luck

I have been watching tonight's show and must express my thoughts on how Tommy Steele was treat. I am not neccessarily a big fan of his but felt that there seemed little point in him being there. He was ignored for most of the show and seemed to be very uncomfortable. I can't see why the BBC have guests on the show if they are not going to be included. He was asked very few questions and seemed to be sitting there like a spare part. Come on the One Show........ make your guests more welcome.

lellyplh...blog 20.
you must remember the guests are on for one reason,,,to plug a tv show, book,cd,or dvd.
they are placed by their agent and are no more than something to look at and ask for the odd comment.
the one show is about its presenters and cramming in as much london and wildlife as it can.
until they change to "stars" who are on only to entertain not sell then the format will remain.
it isnt parkinson.

for twenty years I have been trying to tell peoplethat you do not get promoted to the CID.Yet again the media via the one show under mine the uniformed officer. Poor old Plod, who is only fit to stand at the interview room door whilst the clever detective asks all the saerching questions, must renew the fight to be recognised thanks to the beautiful miss bleakley's misinformation.

There were some good bits in the interview with Tommy Steele but I had the nagging feeling that Adrian & Christine were not the right people to be doing it because he was so very far before their time. I wonder if Gyles Brandreth ought to have been roped in?
A few years ago it was being claimed by a Radio 1 DJ that Tommy had been shown round London by Tommy in 1962 when he was travelling home to the U.S. after completing his army service. What a shame that this question was not put to Tommy because I'm sure many would like to have that question resolved one way or the other.

HELP! My member name keeps disappearing from the blog site since yesterday for no reason on my part. Today I have had to "re-sign in" at least 8 times. Have been to BBC help site and they did reply prommptly but weren't really able to explain why this was suddenly happening. Is it just me or has this happened to anyone else? I'm writing this while I can as I fear next time I return to the site I'll have to re-sign in again. Agree that Adrian and Christine probably not the right ones to interview Tommy but enjoyed the show.

Promptly not prommptly. Getting over anxious like the police person earlier.

Regarding the flueless gas fires discussed on the show, here are a few facts about these fires that wasn't mentioned:
1. The fire requires quite a large vent that must remain open at all times, this defeats the object of keeping warm
2. The fire has a safety shut off device called an oxygen depletion sensor that is designed to operate if oxygen levels deplete positioned below the fire. This device can never work in practice as there will always be fresh air given by the vent so is in ineffective
3. These same fires have been banned in Canada and in 5 states of the USA.
4. The catalytic converter that converts harmful carbon monoxide into supposed harmless carbon dioxide has a limited shelf life, thus can eventually fail. This shelf life is NOT stamped on the fire and it should be made clear.
5. The continual moisture given off by the fire can enhance the growth of mould which can be harmful to health.
6. The appliances are intrinsically unsafe, which means if they fail, they do not fail safe.
7. Anyone from the general public can purchase and fit these fires. Should only be sold by Gas Safe competent engineers

Many good points were made regarding the shortage of CID Officers - but since when has a transfer to the CID been a promotion? Detectives who hold an equivalent rank to Uniformed Officers have not been promoted but have simply moved to another branch of the service, one which requires differing skills that are not necessarily superior. Please do not reinforce the suggestion that Detectives are somewhat better than their Uniformed colleagues of the same rank.

I cannot believe how rude blog 10 was about Natasha Wood. Feel quite angry actually, and no I'm not disabled or in a wheelchair. I found Natasha very funny, my sort of humour. A very inspirational woman as she has got a fantastic sense of humour and seemingly positive outlook on life, so raspberries to you Ssevieboy321 with knobs on! (I know what I mean, and I feel much better now)

stevieboy321 post 10: Each to their own, just because you think she's awful doesn't mean she is. Even if she hadn't a disability I'd have thought she's achieved a lot. How about you? It's easy to write a comment - isn't it?
All those criticising mis-information from Adrian and Christine re becoming a Detective = promotion. They can only go by what they've been told by BBC researchers etc. They can't be expected to be experts on every single subject that they cover.
On the other hand - wasn't there an ex-police officer / detective sitting there - who didn't say a single word to correct their mistake?!! Maybe that's why he's an EX detective.

I watched with interest Dom Littlewood's item about the elderly lady who had been a victim of bank account takeover fraud and the reaction from her bank, NatWest.
A couple of months ago I too noticed a £20 charge by O2(Slough)Ltd on my Barclaycard, a transaction which I had not made. However, Barclaycard dealt with the matter very professionally. My card was stopped immediately and a replacement was issued. It was acknowledged the transaction was fraudulent and my account was credited with the £20.
Perhaps this could be mentioned on the show as customer service still exists from some companies.

I cannot believe that anyone would describe Natasha in such derogatory terms, but I will tell you one thing she won't let it bother her. I have met her several times and seen her show - she is the most inspirational lady I have ever met. She has also been to talk to the disabled young people I work with for FREE in her own time. Other people we have approached want an appearance fee of £5000.
