What did you think of The One Show? Guest: Marc Warren

The One Show Team | 15:06 UK time, Wednesday, 23 September 2009

Adrian and Christine were joined in the studio by TV and movie actor Marc Warren.

Our hosts chatted to Cliff Richard and the reunited Shadows at The Odyssey, Belfast.

There's a new trend for 'Supercats'. Mike Dilger went to meet the owners and breeders of these creatures.

Can't sing? Music man Des Coleman can fix it. He told us about the wonders of autotune - computer software that can correct pitch.

It's recommended that a flueless fire shouldn't be used as your only source of heat, but should be used to provide extra warmth in addition to central heating. Lucy Siegle found out more.

And the hedgehog is in decline. But some have found sanctuary in Somerset, said Miranda Krestovnikoff.

Adrian-your singing voice is awful-down there with Pierce Brosnan in Mamma Mia,Lee Marvin in Paint Your Wagon,Richard Harris singing McCarthur Park-I cannot see you guesting with Only Men Allowed.
Gas fires have been a problem for years, usually due to safety problems with ventilation-many installers urge caution with flueless ones and suggest that rooms should have a minimum size and some form of ventilation just to ensure safety-I think the manufacturers dispute this but it is worth considering due to presence of carbon monoxide

Disappointed in the hedgehog piece. Yet again farmers are being blamed for the decline of wildlife as they're such a soft target; when in doubt blame a farmer. Gardeners tend to have far higher slug pellet use and the Highways Agency and housing developers have pulled out and destroyed significantly more hedgerows than farmers in the past 20-30 years. Lazy sloppy journalism.

Article regarding Gas Fires - Another thing to bear in mind when having a Fluless Appliance installed, you must have a vent installed that as per British Standards "communicates directly with outside space" so you need the central heating to take the chill off the room caused by the draft from the vent!!

When it comes to hedgehogs dying out, someone ought to check the facts about how many slug pellets are spread on the land. There isn't a farmer in the country that could afford to spread them 5/8 of an inch apart never mid do it legally!

We have just watched the programme in particular the feature on flueless gas fires, as my partner is a registered gas safe engineer he commented that if the public always ensured that they bought and had it installed by a registered gas safe engineer, which is the law then they would of been told of the draw backs of these appliances and would be legaly safe instead of buyig them of the shelf from a DIY store

Here we go again, hedgehogs are declining, must be the farmers to blame. Hedgehogs only natural preditor is the badger, they have huge claws and they use them to rip out hedgehogs' stomachs, badgers are carnivors. Badgers are protected and are increasing at an alarming rate, hence less hedgehogs. Farmers have not been allowed to remove hedges without planning permission for years. The loss of hedges in this country is down to the building of housing estates, industrial estates and road widening/building all for you 'townies'. Don't be so lazy ,do some proper research. Just one more thing, insecticides are not used on grassland.

I think Lucy's piece on flueless gas fires was unfair. I've been thinking for a while about buying one of these, as an effect in the room. I have the B&Q Spring 2009 catalogue & on pages 14 & 15 it has a complete introduction and all info. for these fires. On both pages it clearly states "To be used as a supplementary heat source". I picked up the catalogue, which is solely about the fires, from a pile next to the displays of the fires in a B&Q shop. I think Lucy should have pointed out that B&Q do give this information in their sales leaflet.

Two points: 1. why do your journalists prepare those interesting reports then let producers ruin them for people of my age (nearly 73) by adding spurious background noises, e.g. totally irrelevant and unnecessary music, which may be pleasant enough on its own, but makes it hard to hear the speech. (Look up "presbycusis": beware your turn will come after the BBC has decided you are too old and turfed you out.) Let us decide when we want to watch operas, as opposed to information programmes. This happens so much I feel it undermines the case for a licence fee that guarantees quality and high standards.

    2. As others have pointed out: flueless fires need a big ventilation hole in an outside wall (10cm diam in our case). That's fine when the flueless fire is on, but the rest of the time in winter you have a freezing gale blowing in losing all the energy you saved by going flueless. Flueless fires are a huge con, alas. We have one because the research I did in advance did not draw this problem to my attention. It's a pity you did not mention this.

I'm a cat lover but am very concerned about this cross-breeding, if only that I don't want my two moggies at risk from some hybrid lurking in the bushes waiting to have a go at them. There's been quite a lot in the news about this cross-breeding lately and I suspect it wont be too long before a lot of minor celebs will be photographed with the latest accessory, "must have pet", which will of course feed the demand for them. I can't wait to see the state of owners' furniture when they start using it as a scratching post!

Sorry for any fans of the artist formerly known as Harry Webb but (aside from 'Move It' which is indeed a supreme record, but strangely was originally considered as a b-side) The Shadows > Cliff Richard. With the exception of the seminal 'Telstar' by the Tornadoes no guitar record can match the Shad's 'Apache' or 'F.B.I.' (Although the rather fantastic cover of 'Apache' by the wonderfully named Ska-dows (who also covered the afore-mentioned Telstar) does run it extremely close).

Actually Christine was quite right...She said that Cliff & The Shadows were starting their BRITISH tour in Belfast.

Belfast, N.Ireland is part of the UK whereas Dublin & Killarney are within the Republic. Surely a Republican would be able to figure that out!

A bit of an overreaction, methinks.

14-if you have to have a vent with a fluless gas fire why not go for the balanced flu hole in the wall fire-for a while I considered having one of these fluless ones and the only advantage seemed to be having no vent-if you still need one there does not seem much point
