Yes the pound may be weaker than the Euro at the moment, but in the UK we give.. I commented on this yesterday and my views still have not changed. The portrayal of the illegal immigrants was very much that we must feel sorry for them and poor them because they have come all this way. I cant believe Keith Allen said that the perception that they are all social scroungers was wrong! How wrong are you Keith Allen?!?!

The jungle inhabitants are not wanted here; the French should send them back to their own countries. We can all feel sorry for those desperate people in Calais but if they are really desperate they should seek "asylum" in the first safe country - France or wherever. Anyone arriving illegally from France, a safe country with a good human rights record, should be immediatley deported

Would Keith Aleen take in an illegal immigrant to live with him, feed him etc etc..for the rest of the illegal immigrants stay here in Great Britain.

I work for a private company where we help individuals on benefit get back into work. I was mortified to come across a client who had come to the UK 40 years ago and has not lifted a finger to work since arriving. Why? because the lady could not speak a word of English! 40 years living in our country and not tried to speak the language at all. Unfortunately, although not as bad, she is not the only individual we have seen, where someone has come to live in our country, claiming our benefits and then we have to pay interpretors because they can not speak a word of English. Proof that people do come into the UK with no intention wo work or fit into our way of life!

your item with Giles about regional accents - very interesting. However, your female interviewee (didn't catch her name) said that received pronunciation should be thought of as standard English. This is incorrect as words in RP can still be slang, whereas standard English isn't slang!

Keith Allen was brilliant and hit the nail on the head. People are not always coming here because we are going to financially make their life better they are coming because we have a reputation of welcoming people who in need and need a safe place to live. We should be proud of this and embrace this and all of those who have made it something special and will continue to make it special. Do we really want to end up as a closed xenophic country like most of Europe or like America???

We SHOULD help people who are really in need but who knows who needs help and who is just here for a free ride.
We are all going through difficult times with many friends and colleagues losing their jobs each week from all levels of careers so we need to look after our own before we start handing out to people who just land on our shores.
We should encourage people who want to work and with skills we need to come to the UK but not just to give them handouts the day they arrive.
I have friends who have had a reasonable redundancy payout from their company but they get no help till they've spent it and others who have to go through their hard earned savings before they get help.
This country no longers encourages hard work and gives rewards for doing well, instead we congratulate and reward law breakers, layabouts and the "can't be bothered".

I recently had the misfortue of being made redundant. I visited the job centre to have it explained to me that I could claim £60 per week contribution based JSA but I could not calim any housing benift or help with my mortgage as I own my own home. While I was sitting there thinking how ripped off I felt having paid tax at 40% for 10 years I overheard a conversation between an adviser and another "customer". The customer was balck he could not speak english so the job centre got him an interpiriter, I over heard that he had been in the country 3 months and had never worked - he was offered £50 per week JSA and howsing benift toward his rent. Is it me or is their something wrong here. No wonder they all want to come to the UK and not stay in France. Sorry about the spelling I typed this with a degree of emotion.

It's time the rest of the EU got tough on immigration and tightened their border controls. We don't want more in the UK, we have enough. Crass remarks like the Brits were immigrants is nonsense. Why did these people not ask for asylum at the first safe country? Of course these countries are not prepared to hand out the sort of money that they can get in the UK. If we told them that they would get no money, no passport, no free housing etc. then they would soon find somewhere else to go. Also why are the French not putting them into transport and bussing them back to their border and letting the previous country sort it out? We are fed up in this country being taken for mugs and why or earth are the presenters and reporters on the one show acting like a load of emotional idiots? Illegal immigrants know that once they are in Britain, that it is difficult to get them out....Watching TV programmes showimmigration officials getting more and more frustrated when they say that they havent got any passport, as if the officials cannot prove where they were origionally from, they are reported, but are released...The onus on proof should be with the immigrants to prove their entitlement to be in this country and not the other way around

hi all i think france has it right.they only come here for a passport.make all immigrants micro chipped so they can be tracked.make it law that unless you have paid min 5yrs ni and tax in the uk unless you were born here that your not intitled to any nhs treatment or to claim income surport.make anyone who is claiming do community jobs 40hrs a week and see the claim rate drop.lastly bring back national service frm 17 to 21 that will stop the ammount coming here.

Hi peeps.
Where I come from the only think imigrants bring are begging prostitution and violent crime between ethnic groups. They come simply for the benifits offered by the UK and that's why they travel so far and are so determined. It's not rocket science. A 4 year old girl was discovered in a local supermarket, clothes changed and hair being cut by two east european women and do gooders can't understand the attitude of the masses.

Consecutive goverments over the years have not grasped the nettle with regards to allowing the influx of millions of immimgrants; many of which are illegal and a drain on our society. If a survey was taken acrosss the country, the results would be that 9 out of 10 British people want to see this influx stop immediately. We have allowed criminals from eastern european countries to thrive in our open society - it needs to stop now!

People are born into inhumane conditions and it is only right that they would want to come to a country that will treat them properly. Why don't they deserve this? Hi, my name's Lee. I am of Vietnamese birth but have been a nationalised UK citizen since 1974. I am open minded and believe that if a person wishes to live in another country then that's fine, however the individual must contribute to that society, conform, and (to an extent) not impose their views over those of the country that they're in, otherwise what's the point of said person wanting to be there. This applies to all nationalities of all nations, not just British emmigrating aboard but to immigrants wishing to settle here. If you don't wish to be a member of a nation's society then don't go there/come here. It's as simple as that.

Sick and tired of these financially privileged guests voicing their sympathy about these parasites (ie Keith Allen). NO I do not feel sorry for them and I could not care less where they end up as long as it is not here. They bypass many countries on route here and then in last night's show tried to portray their reasons for coming here as wanting a British passport.
Why are they freely passing through Italy, Germany etc on route to Calais? Why doesn't France impose fines on those countries for letting them through and ship them back out.

im a father of three and ive worked all my kids life so i not been there to see their sports days or assemblies or helped them with homework, no ive been made redundant recently id prefer to stay at home look after the kids cook them dinner see them of to school pick them up etc i think fathers should be more involved with the kids not just the mothers, i think it easier for mothers to go out and get better paid jobs than it is for warehouse men like me with no grades.

Hi, I believe that we should not make it so inviting for these people to come to England. Any body who wants to come and live in England must have a job and be able to support themselves for at least 5 years, once they have worked and paid taxes for 5 years they can them take advantage of our benifits system and national health service.
If it was not so easy to get all the benifits and national health service, then they would accept other countries as their new home, After all England is only a small island and does not have infinate land mass.

Why can't we simply have the laws enforced as was agreed? The EU laws say that you must claim asylum in the country you first entered. France should deport these people back to Spain or Italy or the Southern and Eastern areas of the Europe where these people first enter the EU.
P.S. Adrian, Lord Reith was not a member of what you would consider the bourgeoisie. He was born in Stonehaven near Aberdeen and specifically played up his background to get the job. He got a good start in life as the son of a manse (not unlike your beloved Gordon Brown). The ONE Show is the wrong format to deal with an issue like immigration properly. The coverage is soft and doesnt explore both sides of the debate and then the guests tend to be of a left wing persuasion (Matt "Immigrants enrich society" Lucas, and Keith "we are all immigrants but I made damn sure I sent my daughter to private school to avoid them" Allen)
The majority of posters to this blog are fed up with unfettered and uncontrolled immigration. The pictures of crying men from sangatte are not easy to watch but these people have passed through dozens of safe countries to sit in a camp to try and force a way in the UK. We are a soft touch and the camps and trafficers will continue until we properly police our borders (oh and stop paying benefits to illegal immigrants would also help) (oh and by the way, government ministers dont help when they employ them!!!)

Just think of all the money that would be saved by not allowing these people to stay. Think of all the housing benefit saved, all the income support, job seekers allowance, time spent with doctors, medication, there'd be less issues with finding local school places. We've all seen the women dragging their children round on buses or tubes begging, or the women at the traffic light cleaning cars for money. They all know the ways around beating the system like borrowing each others children to claim for more benefits. In the area I used to live you'd see them on their expensive mobile phones, wearing trainers that cost over £100 a pair. Its a joke!!
To allow these people to stay makes a mockery of true Britain. My Husband is serving and fighting in Afghanistan right now. For what? Can't be to make their country better so they stay, surely?

It is amazing that would-be illegal immigrants beat their way across half the world to enter a cold, wet island that is now the most densely populated country in Europe.

Both Matt Lucas, your guest on Monday and Keith Allen who was on on Tuesday, when invited to comment in a roundabout way, suggested there was no problem in allowing the refugees to enter the UK. The views of these men are not representative of the nation as a whole so why wasn't this pointed out. You would have to have a heart of stone not to have sympathy with the plight of the individuals concerned but at a time when the population has just reached 60million any measures to restrict illegal entry have to be applauded. The rapid rate of increase is patently unsustainable and anyone who doesn't believe that the country is over-crowded should try catching the tube in Zones 1 and 2 at 08:30 on weekday mornings. Lets have a more balanced debate please.

It is well known and has been said both on BBC1 6 o'clock news and French FR3 news that there have been around 800 people (at most) living in the Sangatte "jungle". Christine Bleakley's provocative comment about "thousands of migrants" is precisely the kind of language to bring a smile to parties such as the National Front and other fascists and scare-mongerers, and I was deeply shocked to hear it.
Clearly you do not take the danger of extremism very seriously, Christine.
If like myself you had suffered repeated attacks just for being foreign, you would speak of these things a little less lightly and foolishly.
As a permanent resident in the UK for 31 years, I still suffer from xenophobia on occasion, as well as downright racism.

Its little wonder that the well healed guests on the oneshow subscribe to the generous and good view of the 'poor' asylum seekers. They havent thought through (or have they?) that these people need somewhere to live, be fed and NHSetc....and who pays for them? They should go back and sort out their own countries - yes it may take courage, like our troops fighting for them in the case of Afganistan. KIMHICKLING the whole of Britain has a problem with immigrants not just England,the PC bunch need to grow a spine and take a good hard look at the reality of why a lot, not all of these people come to Britain.
In the small town I live in a local taxi driver was hired by a Polish guy when the driver asked him where too, his reply was to the FREE BANK, the driver told him that he didn't know of any free bank the pole said not too worry he could show him. He directed him to the next town and the BENIFITS OFFICE.We also have a benefits shop in town now for THE POLISH IMMIGRANT WORKERS, if local workers need to find out what they are not entitled too they have too travel 8 MILES to the next town.
My wife has just finished her probationer year as a newly qualified teacher,there are no jobs for her and hundreds more to add insult to injury she is not even entitled to job seekers allowance as she has not paid enough national insurance contributions as she had the cheek to go to University for a year to train as a teacher, so what the hell are we looking after immigrants for when we can only SLAP our own folk down.

Looking at the the comments on immigration,i cant really add any more than whats been said,except that if i spoke to 50 people tommorow they would all say the same thing to these so called assylum seekers.it would be, GO AWAY WERE FULL UP,although i believe Matt Lucas and keith allen are renting out their back gardens for tent pitches.

To hokeykokeyalex what the people are saying about welfare rights that we should adopt the attitude of country's like Australia, if you can't get employment sponsorship you are expected to have enough money in the bank when you hit their shores to last 2 years roughly £40000 this is what they think you would drain from their economy by not being able to provide for yourself.
I agree with this whole completely this would sort out the people who are going to benefit our country from the leeches on our misguided benefit system, in fact we should take on board the Australian way of even applying for residency in this country if it took a year and a lot of effort to get over the door a lot would think again.

I can't believe the levels of hatred on this blog with regard to refugees and asylum seekers. More than half of the people turfed out of the 'jungle' camp were minors, mostly from Iraq and Afghanistan. The last I heard was that those countries have been ravaged by war!!!
Also the 1% or so refugee population in this country is nowhere near that of African or Middle Eastern countries where they are upwards of 40%.
Better to look at the illegal activities of those from recently become EEC member states. Now they are really taking us as a soft touch with their illegal trading in our supermarket car parks and their constant transportation of people in anything on wheels! It has gone on unchecked for the past 2 or 3 years!!

Regarding to the immigrants, they all should join the army and fight for their country. We don't want anymore immigrants in the uk, we should be looking after our own people. My dad and I went to Dunkirk a few times in the past few years and a hotel where we stayed at, we saw the immigrants seeking pass, getting food etc. Scary too.

Post 38 !You say our views are selfish?we have so much and dont share it?Not where we live im afraid!services are under strain , gangs as well as our own home grown ones, hang around street corners, and they are definately not looking for work !Crime has gone up , health care is under pressure and god knows how teachers manage in schools .We have been very generous as a country to people claiming asylum over the years but surely its time to say no! glad The One Show has raised this topic as we have nowhere else to vent our feelings!

The 'flood' is not of immigrants but of nonsense, prejudice and misinformation.
Immigrants aren't a drain on the NHS. First off until their status is settled most asylum seekers can only receive emergency healthcare. Morevoer a quarter of our doctors and around half of our nurses were born overseas. Then there are the plethora of hospital porters and the like born from outside the UK. No immigrants and the NHS would collapse.
They aren't a drain on benefits. Despite the fact that illegal immigrants aren't allowed to work or pay tax until their claim is sorted they account for less than half a percent of those claiming benefits
They are not responsible for the lack of housing. There are around 870,000 empty houses in the UK. What is lacking is the political will and imagination to turn the empty housing stock into usable homes and to provide affordable social housing in those areas that most need it.
We don't have more than 'our fair share'. We have an immigrant population of 8.98%. France has 10.18%, Spain 10.79 and Germany 12.31%.
But don't let the facts get in the way of your ranting.

The ruling that asylum should be sought in the first suitable country in which the person sets foot must be enforced. We can no longer afford to be a philanthropic society, we haven't the means to support our sick and needy as it is. Sickly sentiment does not pay for health care, care homes for the elderly, and education for our young.

I think you are totally overreacting to the comment that Christine made - "Thousands of Asylum Seekers".
It may well be 800 at present, but the point is that there have been thousands over the recent years.
The one point that is rarely raised re Calais / Sangatte is the utter misery forced upon the local folk and their kids with that squalid jungle. Few of the would-be refugees gave the locals a second thought.

Well, it has (predictably) been another bitter night on the blog with the immigration issue, but good reading nonetheless. Just a pity that a single issue dominates to the detriment of the discussion of other items in the show.
I'm at least pleased to see some balanced posts. I think that a lot of people come to the UK for all of the reasons mentioned either in the programme or in the blogs - this country is a soft touch, and many can quote disgraceful examples of this while feeling discriminated Ginst themselves; in addition the difference between the UK and others on this issue is a good thing - for welcoming those who have been forced to come here and who have made a genuine contribution to the country. The system is (as always) deeply flawed, in no small part due to our moronic politicians.
Someone mentioned the ever-increasing population (60m & counting) of this country which is another good point and reminds me of the edition of the show earlier this year in which this was discussed with regard to restricting the number of children to two. It was pleasing to see that most bloggers supported this idea (with some wanting to further restrict to one). Christine mentioned (following the fathers item) tonight about how mothers wanted to stay at home but couldn't afford to... if women stopped wanting to have & having ludicrous amounts of kids the country would be a lot better off, and they could afford to doma lot more...
On another note, Gyles presented an interesting item on RP. He makes a valid argument for it 'when the nstion addresses the nation'.
And... thanks for repeating 'frog-gate' from last night which I had missed and still hasn't appeared on the iplayer. At least the 'outraged' brigade will be pleased to know that it is alive & well. Strangely no dissenting remarks tonight about the disgraceful bahaviour of the PET OWNERS featured who turn their pets into poor overweight casualties.

hokeycokeyalex your blogs are not balanced in that you employ emotive images to imply that we who are reluctant to embrace immigrants are wrong, the questions you ask eg the refusal of treatment to sick children are in my opinion prejudicial in that they smack of emotional pressure. I feel very strongly about immigrants coming here to grab all the "freebies" that the rest of us have spent our lives paying for. What gives these people the right to cost OUR country money to be given the rights that we have paid for? If they work and contribute then I have no problem with them - but kick the scroungers out. How does Australia get away with not taking in immigrants? Why can't we adopt some of their policies - or is our government too cowardly to stand up for our rights?

I am annoyed about some of the comments regarding immigration and the immediate association which is made by some between immigration and benefits. This standpoint automaticlly assumes that those wishing to enter the UK are here to scrounge. This is certainly not the case based on my own personal experience of those seeking asylum in the UK. Those who abuse the benefits system are from my experience quite a lot closer to home.

Immigration concern for Truck drivers, why are the truck drivers fined six thousand pounds for something they are not in control, for example, I am a truck ( lorry ) driver and there are many blind spots on the vehicle that for me to check every inch will prevent me from driving the truck in the first place, why then are the drives being blamed for carrying the illegals whom stow away without trace until the immigration law officers arrive by then is too late, even if a driver where to check his vehicle for illegals would be dangerous in case the illegals are carrying weapons.
Another factor can be the driver could be paid to carry them, but that is very highly unlikely because 1, dont need the extra money as already good pay jobs in haulage, 2, loss of job with truck company, 3, expensive mistake to make when caught, so i believe that the drivers should not be to blame nor fined.

It would be interesting to know what proportion of benefit scroungers are in fact white, native British - I suspect the figure is very high. But it's easier, of course, to blame the observably different.
I recently had serious heart surgery. Without the presence of 'immigrant' nurses my chances of survival would have been much reduced.
One might have more sympathy with the moaning British in this conversation if they could manage even to spell the native language of which they claim to be proud with a modicum of accuracy.

Immigration - It is unfortunate that these people dont love the country they were born in but we have far too many immigrants in England now and we have to put a stop as it will just get worse. They say they want to come to Britain to get a British passport but we all know it is because they know they will get free accommodation, free benefits, free health, free education. If you look at the building trade, jobs have been taken from English people. I know family and friends who have not had work for weeks even months, the thing is most English people have mortgages but if the immigrants are taking our jobs then how are we supposed to survive. I agree that we do our share as a country to help people in other countries have a better life but not for everyone to come to England. I find this a scarey time at the moment for England. I work full time but give it a year and you watch we will have to pay more tax etc towards the debt of the country and because we have so many immigrants that the council will be unable to cope to support everyone and guess what we will have to pay out more which a lot of us will find very difficult

To hokeykokeyalex I posted at 77 and I posted a way of dealing with some of the problems we have with immigrants,I doubt a single person here would wish anyone die through lack of medical support.We should adopt the practices of Australia and make it hard work to enter this country {Britain not England}.They also have a good way of dealing with illegals send them back to their country of origin asap.
Regarding your pathetic idea of stereo typical people in this country there are enough wasters in this country in all areas and don't kid your self that the whiskey you go on about provides a hell of a lot of taxation in this country to pay for a lot of services.
I have only posted on hear to illustrate that not all the immigrants coming to this country are as saintly as the PC brigade would make out I have also met a lot of eastern europeans who have come to this country to have a better life,some of the Polish people were living on a monthly salary of £200 so even the basic wage here provides a better standard of living than here.

I agree with all the sentiment on this blog regarding immigration. And I don't see many posts suggesting we allow these unfortunate, desperate people entry into the UK. Maybe this is anecdotal evidence but my feeling is that the vast majority would also agree. Isn't it time for a national vote on the subject? Wouldn't this provide our career-minded politicians with the strength to take effective, maybe even drastic action to ease the situation? They certainly seem reluctant to do anything significant at the moment. And the problem can only get worse.

I disagree with comments that the One show is the wrong place to discuss the issues of immigration - of course it should tackle these issues which many people have a view on. They could make a very worthy Panorama about it but how many would watch it? The One Show is popular so it brings the debate to a wider audience - and to a certain extent Ive changed my mind from last night about lack of balance - I think to an extent it has to take a point of view rather than always trying to be balanced due to the time available for these films. At least it got us all talking (or shouting in some cases!)
I was surprised that the illegal immigrants turned out to be Vietnamese in part 2 of the film, but I dont think we should be surprised that people from poor or wartorn countries become so desperate to improve their lot. History repeats itself and we never learn its lessons - lets not forget the Irish who emigrated after the potato famine and even today those from all over Britain who emigrate to Canada or Oz to improve their lot - or even just go to Spain to enjoy the sun - are they not immigrants to those countries? - we all pat them on the back and say good luck mate, but if poor people want to come here, we get defensive. I know there are issues with immigration over housing and strain on healthcare,and Im not saying let every one in, but there isnt an easy answer to the question otherwise governments would have found it by now. Finally - where I live, the Eastern Europeans, particularly the Poles, in general seem to come and get jobs, earn a bit of money and mostly clear off home after 6 months to a year. The point is, mostly, they get jobs. There are lots of locals on benefits who could also get those jobs if they tried.
Much calmer show tonight, perhaps they were a little chastened by the blog reaction last night(or do we give ourselves too much credit). Greatly relieved that the frog is ok. :)

Interesting piece on Calais/immigration. I'd like to make two points:
(1) The UK is already over-crowded.I fear for future social cohesion if we continue along this path.
(2) The people concerned are, in effect, saying to us "We're coming to live in your country whether you like it or not. And, when we get there we expect you to look after us". This is unacceptable.If they are genuine asylum seekers they do not "pick and choose" where they seek asylum and attempt to enter the country illegally.

So many of you are right when it comes to being against illegal immigration or even 'legal'. (Take the case of Eastern Europeans). Also the UK should SUE France for not endorsing the fact of assisting the illegals to settle there. Another point is, I can't believe anyone on The One Show can just stick to these 'politically correct' views and not have the alternative view. It's all right for Adrian Chiles, Christine Bleakley and co. to 'show sympathy' but they sit in their ivory towers in Hampstead etc (away from the immigrants, let alone illegal ones) oblivious or pretending to be so. If they camped outside their houses they'd be the first to complain. Secondly, and this is NOT an Islamophobic rant, the programme highlighted people from Iraq and Afghanistan who are muslims - in this time of anti-terror laws/security and not knowing who we are letting in, criminal or terrorist does that make sense to give these people assistance/entry? Perhaps if The One Show Hosts and leftie guests were caught up in this crimewave and terror they'd think differently about the consequences of 'tolerance'. And with Keith Allen inferring the immigrant contribution, working or not, if we accept the former, these people send billions of money 'home'. That money should be reinvested in THIS country. After all, if you suggest you're going to take your lottery winnings out of the country the government will tell you you are not allowed to take so much money out of the country yet due to immigrants, it happens on a daily basis without a second thought like that.

It seems that The One Show is increasingly focussing on what I would refer to as 'political issues'. A real debate or discourse can only take place if a variety of opinions from different sections of society are open for discussion.
However this is not usually the case as most guests on the show tend to be rich, successful, liberal thinking celebrities, who only use their time on air to advertise their latest 'project'.
If the BBC wants the programme to remain politially unbiased, it needs to either minimise the political focus, or provide a better mix of guests.
Keith Allen can hardly been seen as an advocate for fatherhood, as his own children were raised by Harry Enfield. They also went to expensive, private schools, so where does he get his 'socialist' views from I wonder.
I enjoy The One Show but it is losing its edge, as did Richard and Judy when they lost touch with ordinary people, and became a self-serving, 'congratulatory club' instead.

Have the BBC "researchers" not discovered that the main reason these people choose to cross several EU countries to get to Britain is because we're a soft touch and they can be housed and looked after without needing to work (or even learn English)? It's been a good debvate indeed. Also the issue of citicism of The One Show for even covering serious topics has raised its ugly head once again. I think it's brilliant that the show can cover any topic, and the ensuing blogging is a great thing.
Yes - there have been some not-so-good repoorts on the show, and there have been examples of misinformation as discussed at length on the blogs. But, the show provides a great means of reporting on a diverse range of topics.
And further, I have been an avid TV viewer for as long as I can remember - since the age of 4, in fact, and that's nearly 39 years ago - and I have witnessed 'dumbing down' and the decline of this & that etc. Take for example the flagship BBC2 programme Horizon, which used to offer excellent science/documentary television for years, into the 1990s. In recent years, it has been, on the whole, very poor, with some progrqmmes waffling on for 60 minutes consisting of about 5 minutes of proper, informed content. The One Show has covered subjects in a much better manner, in a matter of minutes, and with more passion, than these and many other programmes have done in much longer time slots.

On a last word on the subject !!In our Scottish papers today, the headlines were as follows!!!Schools Buckle Under Influx Of Migrant Pupils!!!Scotlands schools are struggling to cope with soaring numbers of migrant children entering an already overcrowded classroom!Teachers have not got the language skills to teach them all !What a mess we are in !!

Some of these comments completly and utterly disgust me.It seems some people believe that its actually easy to "milk the system" or that immigrants gets "freebies" or whatever dribble they think.
For reasons that i won't share, because they are quite personal, i asked and filled the form for a disability allowance.
Now...i could hardly move out of the house, yet this didn't seem enough for me to be entitled to this benefit. And yes I'M AN IMMIGRANT. (Gasp. shock, horror! Be careful. I might pounce from the screen and eat your kids!)I was rejected. And i accept that. Maybe someone else deserved it more than i. Immigrant or no immigrant.
There are people here that don't understand why anyone would want to leave their country, and obviously they never will.Because they think ones life, ones existence is defined by a flag. But i'll try and explain.
Three words.......WE ARE HUMAN. And as human beings we go through good patches, bad patches and the right old inferno patch. Sometimes the bad patches get really bad, and the inferno gets too hot, and the only way to survive is out.
One myth i will like to expel is that immigrants don't have to wait to be housed. I had to live in the dirtiest, filthiest hole you can imagine, with coackroaches and all for a couple of years. And we only managed to move thanks to the fact that we went physically to the council and showed a coackroach that we caught.
And yes i came here legally thank you very much.
Some people will never understand the desperation, and i wish they never will.
I'm proud to have lived in the Uk, and i'm proud to have contributed to this diverse, beautiful country. I have bad memories but also great ones, and that's something that no Xenophobic, heartless, hypocrite will ever and i mean EVER take away from me.
There are good immigrants and bad immigrants, like there's good British people and bad british people. Face up to it..... Peace.

can't believe your vet told keith allen his cat could go out at 14 weeks - there is a crisis in animal welfare at the moment with masses of unwanted animals dumped daily - surely keith can wait until the animal is neutered rather than adding to the population - an article on the crisis in rescues would be a nice way to compensate :-)

As a trustee of Coventry Cat Group we never suggest that kittens can go out so early.
There are several reason why a kitten should be kept in until they are at least 6 months old.
A young cat has no sense (sense of fear, sense of traffic and anything else really!). Young kittens are social and will follow people in the street. The number of young cats and kittens that we get calls about that have wandered off / been picked up as 'strays' is high.
Young kittens are also cute and may be deliberately picked up - especially ones that look pedigree, they can have a good resale value on any of the free sites available on the internet.
Young Kittens have little sense of traffic - Road accidents are THE NUMBER ONE KILLER of cats, not the diseases that we vaccinate for. Insurance premiums for cats in the first two years is often higher so insurance companies recognise this.
A lot of cats that go missing are never reunited with their owners - cats allowed out should always be microchipped to increase their chances of getting home.
Another factor - and the most important as far as animal welfare is concerned - is that cats are sexually mature very early so allowing a cat out can result in a tom getting lost on the hunt for a mate or another unwanted pregnancy. Cat rescue has been so busy this year with unprecedented numbers of kittens. There are only so many homes in this country for all these cats to go.
All the local Coventry animal rescues have been working very hard to spread the message of neutering via RSPCA animal days (attended by us, Coventry Cats protection and Cat Action Trust) offering advice on neutering and other health issues. Coventry Cats protection offer financial assistance and practical help (by even collecting the cat and taking them to the vet and back!) for those that are on benefits.
Please ensure that any advice given on your show is sensible!!

We live in france, but watch your show regularly, when you talk about the My story competion, perhaps you should say that Only people who are resident in the united Kingdom can enter, I would have loved to send in an entry , but when I read the terms and conditions I realized that I could not enter,I had spent a lot of time getting things ready and if I had not printed off the pages I probably wouldn't have realized that I was not able to enter, so do you think you could mention it on the programme , or perhaps they may extend it to let Brits living abroad enter, thank you Esme

'I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here's one plan.'
1) 'The US /UK Canada, AUSTRALIA will apologize to the world for our 'interference' in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic, Hussein, and the rest of those 'good 'ole' boys', we will never 'interfere' again.
2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany , South Korea , the Middle East , and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence.
3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We’ll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of whom or where they are from. They're illegal!!! France will welcome them.
4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit!!!! No one from a terrorist nation will be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.
5) No foreign 'students' over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a 'D' and it's back home baby.
6) The US /UK Canada, Australia will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while
7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)
8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not 'interfere.' They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.
9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island someplace. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.
10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us 'Ugly Americans' any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH..learn it...or LEAVE...Now, isn't that a winner of a plan?'
