I have just been watching you friday evening show and can I say that I am disgusted by your article/piece involving the Pope.
I understand that for enterainment value you had a Pope alike and even said to viewers to send in their Pope alikes???(fathers or family friends). What is going on.Although I am not a practicing catholic, I thought your total lack of respect to the leader of one of the worlds largest religiouns very distasteful.
Will you be having a Allah alike next week,I very much doubt it.You would not want to upset any of our Muslim community. But you feel it's acceptable to riducule the Pope on prime time TV...what are you doing?
I don't even particulary like this new Pope....but lets play fair.

In case the BBC has forgotten, the Pope is actually a Head of State and is visiting Britain on an official engagement. When President Obama visits, will the BBC have a special on how we all "Black Up" and laugh at him?

I promise this is my last one. I do think the msgs complaining or finding this Pope article offensive are actually more anti other religions (ie Islam) than they may think they are. They are just using this article to vent their disapproval to other religions by using the 'Pope' piece as an excuse. I am a practising Roman Catholic and one of the things we are taught, is to have a sense of humour...as I posted earlier, I know priests who will find this article very funny indeed...just because other religions do not find self depracation amusing, doesnt mean to say we all have to follow that edict..

Anyway, have a good weekend all, and may your god bless you all..

I sat down to watch The One Show as usual and to my dismay as a practising catholic, the head of my church was poked fun at and subjected to ridicule which seemed to go on and on. I find this completely unacceptable and felt embarressed by the whole spectacle. Obviously your show has plumbed new depths and I for one will no longer be the regular viewer I was. Perhaps you have under-estimated the strength of faith which exists in this country and it would have been more valuable to have researched what His visit means to the catholic community here, both young and old.

Having seen the show tonight (as opposed to actually watching it), one is left with the definite impression that it is rapidly approaching its sell-by date, and almost depends for success (or otherwise) on the quality of the guest. The show was thrashing about in mediocrity, with a "guest" who had 'mediocre' written all over him. The school kids admittedly had a lift from the helicopter & Christine's visit which was a nice touch, but the bit about the "Pope" was as embarrassing as it was crass and infantile.

    As we all know, the One Show is promoted as being "inclusive", "respectful of communities" and of course, most "politically correct". So having tried to lampoon the Pope, I insist that similar treatment is promptly meted out to the earthly rep of the Muslim faith (if there is one, that is ...personally, I wouldn't know whether there is, or there isn't);

Maybe Barry Humphries in the guise of Les Patterson, wearing a see-through burka, reading a few well chosen lines from the Satanic Verses while munching his way through a bacon sandwich, interspersed with intermittently bellowing for the faithful to come to prayer would be an entertaining start.

..........and look!! Is that a pig I see flying over that mosk??

Without Lucy, Giles & Tuffers, the show can be pretty dire, and the BBC should seriously consider dropping it, and replacing it with some other variation on the light, magazine-format. It could be introduced by Christine as anchor-woman, with features by Giles/Lucy/Tuffers/Anita & the naturalist chappie who was looking for the blonde hares tonight + the bug-guy. In fact anyone who can contribute something informative & interesting. If Christine needs a co-presenter, then dig up Archie Andrews, who would at least be an expert at wooden, stiff and characterless deliveries to camera.

The show should also be run in, say, series of 8-10 shows. To do it in the present format every weekday night is too much, and from the quality offered seems unsustainable, as at LEAST 50% of the content is consequently pretty third rate.

I have to agree with most of the people on this blog. I mean, it was practically World War III when those Danish cartoons came out making fun of the prophet Mohammed, yet they’re allowed to take the piss out of the Pope and we’re just supposed to take it? Catholicism is an easy target for some reason, we’re told to ‘get a sense of humour’, which would be helpful if it was even funny at all. Some guy who doesn’t even look like the Pope, dressed up like he’s in the KKK, hilarious…

BTW Homer goes back to church at the end of it, did you even watch the whole episode?

My better half and I found the item regarding the look-a-like Pope, totally offensive. We are not Roman Catholics but practising Anglicans. As has been said, you wouldn't dare mock Islam in these troublesome times, so why mock Christianity? Absolutely disgraceful.

An apology is swiftly called for and the whole subject taken off the programme. You should all be hanging your heads in shame.

If this is what it takes to fill a 60 minute programme, then I am afraid the days of this show will be numbered. This is unfortunate as we have been fans since the beginning.

    POPE BENEDICT "LOOK-A-LIKE" Contest
It is valid to discuss The Pope's actions and/or statements-It is not "fair comment" to mock or ridicule him as an individual and leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
As a catholic found it objectionable as I am sure did many other people(Christian or not)

I feel sure that the BBC would NOT make a program ridiculing/mocking Mohammed .
There would be demonstrations, burning of bibles and a fatwa against the BBC presenters.
Christianity however is an easy target-"we turn the other cheek"

I would hope(but not expect)that the BBC would offer a simple apology, acknowledge that it has caused offence and cancel this stupid competition.
The One Show has given much pleasure and amusement in the past. This is offensive and not funny. You maynot agree with anothers belief but treat them with respect as you would wish to be treated.

The catholic faith continues to get it wrong in so many areas at the same time, in doing this they make it so easy for anyone to justifiably criticise them.

I do not think we should welcome this pope or any other; the whole catholic system seems to be stuck in the dark ages.

There are so many things they get dangerously wrong one of the most reprehensible, aids and the condom. I will leave it there they are just too easy a target.

In these days of political correctness it seems that the only minorities it's acceptable, even fashionable, to attack, vilify and ridicule are Christians (preferably Roman Catholics). The inane giggling and smirks which accompanied this childish and unimaginative item on 'the one show' displays a woeful lack of understanding of Catholicism and a worrying indifference to any offense a 'Pope look-a-likes' competition might cause. No doubt I and others who complain will be told to chill out, get a life or develop a sense of humour. In response, I would call into question the sense of humour of any viewer who found this banal distraction entertaining let alone amusing. I don't ask for an apology, sincere or otherwise, from the BBC, but I think it might behoove it to show a little common sense and stop ridiculing the firmly held beliefs of a large minority of its audience.

The simplistic and lazy argument that religion equals 'trouble' and, by inference, science equals peace IS amusing. Scientists created mustard gas for the Western Front, Zyclon B for the Auschwitz gas chambers, atomic, nuclear, napalm and smart bombs for general annihilation, greenhouse gases for global warming and CFCs for ozone depletion... no trouble there then. Do these profanities make us dismiss science as bogus? Of course not.
Homer Simpson is very funny, 'purpletimr,' but I'm not sure he's meant to be a role model.

looking for a pope look alike is a bit of fun; too many of the things he stands for can be shot down in flames, easily.

Many of the things supported by his particular brand of belief are on a world scale, downright unhealthy and far to dangerous for my liking.

I find brevity around a man that supports the many bad things that he evidentially does, not in the best of taste.

Considering what he represents, I don't think anyone should complain about bit of look alike fun it should be the least of anyone's worries.

In Ireland there has been sectarian violence between Catholic and Protestant resulting in many innocent deaths. She is an intelligent lady-why was she not sensitive to the offence that this featue might cause? Being Irish from Belfast she would certainly have first hand experience of sectarianism. Common sense(definition-that which is not so common) should have prevailed.
