What did you think of The One Show? Guest: Stephanie Beacham

The One Show Team | 17:21 UK time, Thursday, 16 July 2009

Adrian and Christine with guest Stephanie Beacham

Adrian and Christine were joined in the studio by Dynasty and Coronation Street Actress Stephanie Beacham.

For more information about the 'Hearing Dogs' Stephanie mentioned, click here.

Gyles Brandreth asked whether we should ever look for advice in the pages of a self-help book.

Jean Coombs, 92, told Marty Jopson about the notes she has made that are now proving blooming useful to scientists.

Dom Littlewood helped a couple who were unhappy with their cruise holiday.

And Dan Snow used police e-fit technology to put a face to legendary highwayman Dick Turpin.

Also: Remember to take the One Show flag with you on holiday. Whether you're climbing to the top of the Eiffel tower or bobbing around the Great Barrier Reef, we want to see the photos. Click the links below to download the flag.

Hey thoroughly enjoyed todays show. The best Thursday show in ages. Christine looked dashing in blue. Like a blue bolt of lightening. Adrian was back to his usual self, sarcasm at it's greatest.
The segment on self help books was justified, most of them are tat, but at the higher end there are some really good books. I think self help books are really good myself, and there is nothing wrong with reading them, they can help you see things in a different way that you can relate to. It was nice to see Stephanie saying nothing has changed when a self help book says a good woman should help in the kitchen, very very 2000's. :)

The show was very well produced tonight, nice camera shots and timing, hats off to the production team.

Science- it's amazing how these people find out things and the natural world is amazing. It seems a bit wrong that they don't get enough funding because there are some pretty pointless goverment funded programmes and schemes, this one really deserves it.

Climate change is inevitable and thank you One Show for actually making the subject ENTERTAINING for a change, what a great well constructed and well worded report. Enjoyed it no end.

That woman thoroughly deserved an OBE, congratulations to her.

I wonder where Stephanie's ear piece was then, if she has a microphone in one side and a reciever in the other? Just wondering!

Hearing dogs are fabulous too, god bless em. That report was also very well done and it's great to see what goes on in the country where I live, that is after all why I watch The One Show.

Charlie got more airtime than Meatloaf!

Stephanie just likes being on the right hand side, she seems like a decent actor. That's nice of Christine to say her look doesn't suit her. If she feels comfortable wearing what she is wearing, what harm does it do?

    Rasberry ripples :) lol.

Dom's segment ( also known as mini watchdog) was great like usual, I love seeing these 'scams' and 'loop holes' that get resolved when big companies hear the letters BBC and crumble! All hail the BBC!

If most of the travel industry agrees that Cruise providers Terms and conditions are not fair, as stated, I think something would have been done by now Dom. I think they should get done for misleading advertising and promotions.

CHECK DA SMALLPRINT ON DE LEFT HAND SIIIDE!
( Too street cred. Innit blood.) * Thats street talk. ** I think.

Ha ha ha... gotta love that template letter think I need to print it off ... got a few companies to send that to!

Can we say Dick on a blog? Dick Terpin lived over 200 years ago so who really cares what he looked like? I mean yes we need to know the history about him but not what he REALLY looked like. There must be better things to be doing than trying to find out pointless things like that.

Saying that it is a step up from cutting hair in random places, but to be honest i would rather watch that. The things after the lookalike marlakey were very interesting. Terpin seemed like a bad boy, hope his mother spanked him.

Fantastic show and brilliant production values, glossy professional and brilliant. Great camera shots, great producing and great content.

    More of the same please!

For one delirious moment, when Steph Beacham and Gyles Brandreth were playing to the audience I thought Adrian Chiles was going to throw a strop and take his microphone home! Ignoring the on screen talent indeed.

Dick Turpin may have looked handsome by the standards of 200 hundred years ago, faces scared from small pox, black decaying teeth, halitosis, strong body smell, scruffy hair, flea bites, Dick Turpin may have been the Richard Gere of his day. LOL
Loved Charlie, he obviously loves Stephanie, I'd like to see some homeless dogs on the show, they would quickly get re homed, and every one likes a sad story, we would need a longer show, why not?

post 6 now that is a good idea, rehoming dogs that is, not the Richard Gere and Dick Turpin analogy, which will give me a chuckle later when I think of it in the dark hours tonight, lol.

Stephanie Beecham was fabulous and Christine was typically gorgeous, but Charlie was the star of the show.
As geordieangel pointed out he obviously loves Stephanie as he was so calm and relaxed with her - in total contrast to when he was with Shrek (sorry I mean Dom) at the top of the show. Oh and yes geordieangel and jadeoldie, it is a great idea to try and use the show's popularity to re-home dogs.

I Recall "Dom" on daytime TV a while ago-he was plain Dominic Littlewood then-not sure when he became "Dom" or should that be "Dome" Littlewood-but to be fair his consumer advice is good-I was thinking of taking a world cruise as I do not like planes but the item tonight put me off-what if the ship breaks down in N.Z and cannot be fixed-I would have to walk home.

purpletimr post 8, glad you agree, if the show was longer, more time could be spent on each subject, being a dog lover, I really would like to see some homeless dogs given a chance on TV, dare I mention channel 4, and Paul O'grady who regularly has homeless dogs on his show, my dog Ben was a rescue dog, and I count my self lucky to have him.

What a relief to hear Stephanie Beacham talking about her hearing problem. She has stuggled as I have with a 'hidden disability' and made a wonderful career for herself. Please thank her from me. I too was born with hearing in only one ear. As a child, before it was discovered I was thought to be stupid, and I was bullied by the other children and picked on by teachers. As an adult I was thought to be rude and aloof if I missed a comment and the 'cocktail party' situation is an absolute No No as I am unable to pick out individual voices in the melee. Even TV watching is not easy when they play that stupid background music which I know Adrian hates as well. My whole life has been spent proving to people that I am an intelligent human being. After a career as an occupational therapist I eventually obtained a Master's Degree (in communication skills!) at the age of 50, and became a free-lance trainer, a university lecturer and a writer. I would love to know about Stephanie's hearing aid. Can some information be put on the web site please.

I loved the item about Hearing Dogs for Deaf People - my only wish being that I'd have liked that item to be longer! It would be great if the programme could return every so often to see how the dog's that's being trained is getting on.

Re above comments on extending the show - as much as I like the show, I would be very hesitant to lend support to this argument. Just look what happened to Top Gear... let that be a warning to all.

Just watched the latest One Show Web Show (No. 9). Always enjoyable, but the intro music (I use the term loosely) is plain awful. Can we have a new one, please? And Adrian looks completely disinterested in it this week. Anyway, not to worry - fame at last, as one of my comments from 6 July was to be seen when they displayed a message that they DID read out haha!!

Once again we lived and learned
The One Show more respect has earned

Not afraid to quote the bible:
Forget your bowing down to idols
Read Proverbs verse 10 of Chapter 6
If you want your life to fix
If youre tempted to join the sluggards
Your cupboard will soon be like Mother Hubbards
So here is something to remember
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber
A little folding of the hand
And want will come as an armed man
    Poverty like a vagabond
Will be your downfall before too long

    Further words of good advice
    Proffered by the worldly wise?:
    Do not dabble in hocus-pocus
    Concentrate, refine your focus
Beware if you share your every trouble
Youll often find they have been doubled
Or a trouble stifled is a coset myth
    Another way of putting it

Thank you Giles and your friend Stephanie
Youd make a fine Adrian and Christine
    A little older wed agree
But a whole lot wiser, naturally

I bred Charlie the toy poodle. I gave Charlie and his 2 bros to hearing dogs hoping that they would help some people hard of hearing. I had Larry and Freddie returned to me as they sadly failed being FALLEN ANGELS. I have since rehomed them and they have gone to loving homes. Charlie does not belong to Stefanie Beacham, he always will belong to hearing dogs. Stefanie obviously loves dogs the way she cuddled Charlie on her beautiful red dress I am sure he would have loved being owned by her. Iam very proud of Charlie and hope that he passes with flying colours.
