In an emotional first film Christine visited the Tsambya slums of Kampala where she met a young girl, whose mother had died of AIDS and who is now bringing up her five brothers and sisters.

Somewhat ironic that on thursdays One Show there was a feature on domestic violence agianst men, perpetrated by female partners.
Then in Fridays episode of Eastenders Stacy walks into the Vic and punches her boyfriend Callum full in the face in an unprovoked assault gving him a blooded lip.
All part of our social conditioning that its OK for women to slap, hit or punch a man in a domestic setting and that its masculine for a man to take it and not respond.
Obviously the message is that its acceptable for a woman to hit a man.

I am pleased for people with mortgages getting a great deal with the interest rate BUT what about those of us that rent? Our rent doesn't go down when our landlords mortgage goes down!!!

hardeep and his tattoo-another london story.
the auction-the problem is that the richest win.why not have a reverse auction in secret where the lowest unique bidder wins?gives all a chance.the bidding is done via text message and as i say gives all a fair chance.

Lovely seeing these location peices in Africa and very tearjerking. In these days of extortion especially with overpaid football players, TV presenters, you'd wonder if they would donate some of their salary to these causes. P.S. I wonder how big the beebs carbon footprint is jetting off to film abroad and taking a presenter too.

I was appalled to hear Adrian Chiles state that Tatoos were worn by "soldiers and other low life!!!!"
This bearing in mind todays tragic news from Ireland and the almost daily news from Afghanistan.
This was every bit as offensive to servicemen & thier families as the "Golly" comments that He made such an issue of earlier this year.
He should be ashamed of himself

As a member of HM Forces I was offeneded by Adrians comments on rockers, soldiers, prisoners and general low life. Surley as a live TV presenter one of his key skills must be to think before he speaks, I wonder what would happen if i did my job as badly!

If he was reading an autocue, not only he, but others too, are guilty of insulting servicemen. I don't think he was though, I think he opened his mouth before he got his brain in gear. Seems he is not offended by calling servicemen lowlifes, so his fragile sensitivity isn't as fragile as we thought.

Adrian Chiles comment about our servicemen was a disgrace but of course not politically incorrect in New Labour BBC terms.
No doubt it was unintentional and he will make an unqualified apology and of course carry on presenting The One Show.
His involvement in the unfair sacking of Carol Thatcher means his actions and comments quite rightly are under scrutiny.

have you ever sat in front of an autocue and read somehing to millions of viewers whilst a producer talks in your ear and guests and a co presenter sit next to you.
what he said was wrong,,,i need to know because 1)if autocue then it takes away most of his blame for me.
2)if autocue ,then someone wrote it-is it wrong to want facts in full before making a decision.
or is the idea to crucify him because of supposed double standards ?

Why would the word lowlife be mentioned at all (either on autocue or verbally by Chiles) regarding tattoos when the likes of Winston Churchill, King Edward V11 and George V all had them. Are they insinuating that these people were lowlifes?

jadedoldie-do you not agree if it was an autocue(and many bloggers have claimed all he is is an autocue reader in negative blogs) that he was reading that he might just have "read" whay was in front of him without it regestering straight away?

oooooh how unforgiving and hard some can be.....so every presenter must 100% of the time multi task and never make a mistake in front of millions whilst presenting live ever changing television with guests and a production team talking in his ear and a floor manager giving instructions of camera.

it is easy to be critical-comments about how presenters look,talk(people have even passed comment about his accent not being a good old middle england voice) and present are usually of a critical nature.

As he has a script in front of him which I assume he reads before going on air surely he must know what he is going to say,and i assume that the autocue is the same as the script . Either way whether it was scripted or off the cuff he should never have said it.

re 5 & 13: The blurb on the show says that Adrian Chiles also writes the script. It is one of his many talents, apparently. So the excuse of 'just following orders' won't wash.
He has clearly caused offence. One wonders how he can be so silly and thoughtless to insult HM Forces at a time like this.

About the autocue: he will know what is written on the machine because the show is, presumably, rehearsed, or at least run through. I know it does not always look like that. Maybe it's not who can tell with The One Show.

re 21: I take your point. However, Adrian Chiles is paid 1.2 million for doing what you describe. In these circumstances perhaps he should try a bit harder to not make gratuitous offensive remarks about HM Forces.

tonight's show highlighted the plight of that poor 16yrs old girl, trying to look after her family. after their parents dying of H.I.V. what we should be concentrating on is comic relief, I don't care who is, or isn't donating, I know I will.

Following Adrian Chiles' disgraceful linking of the words 'low life' and 'soldiers' in the same sentence concerning the subject of tattoos, will he now give un unequivocal, unreserved public apology for the hurt and offence caused by his inference to our many courageous and hard working service personnel both here on these islands and overseas? In light of the treatment meted out to a former member of the One Show team who was promptly dismissed in a similar incident (although not on air) will Chiles suffer the same fate? If not, why not? He is also guilty of opening his mouth without engaging his brain - or have we been treated to his and the One Shows true opinion of our armed service personnel? Don't they have feelings too? It has to be said Adrian, in my view, is not fit to shine their boots. If any of you on the show are truly contrite (although I doubt it) then devote a whole show to highlighting the GREAT service all our soldiers, sailors and airmen and women are doing for our country (whether we agree with the 'war' or not) and reveal the injustice of under-funded equipment, poor pay and housing and medical treatment and the struggle of life after discharge for many? And please, let's not have another example of double standards...

An apology is required and Jay Hunt should ensure such an apology is forthcoming.

I have been watching re-runs of 'The Sweeney'. The phrase you're nicked sunshine keeps running through my head. I cannot think why.
Oh I almost forgot - Christines's top looked nice last night and I for one do not object that much to her laugh. However, I still object to the raucous laughter from the studio floor. Have they got nothing better to do than to stand around watching the One Show. Or am I missing the point here.
