From last night: Do not be suprised by the Rolf Harris painting switch. Remember this was the same team that illustrated their piece on the 1666 Fire of Lond with film of the 1940 Blitz. I truly believe that there is no duplicity afoot; but simply lazy production standards.

Hello commenters,
as I've mentioned before, this blog post is for talking about tonight's show.
The One Show blogs have the potential to be a valuable resource - to extend The One Show tv programme - they can be a place in which knowledge is shared etc etc.
But "off topic" conversations are off-putting for new visitors to The One Show website.
Please - I need to remind you that when you signed up for these blogs, you agreed to the house rules.
Comments that break these rules may be removed.
We encourage lively debate on The One Show blogs - but there has to be a structure in place to aid conversation.
Thank you for visiting The One Show website.

so i ask why allow blog 1 because it in no way comments on tonights show?

OK Ryan - well at least we have evidence that you are actually reading the blogs. Your point is fair. My comments on tonight's show are:- Promising content that was spoilt by purile presentation. In my opinion the silly giggling and forced laughter from the floor did nothing to enhance the performances. What was that rumbling noise in the background?

Hello hokeykokeyalex and cookygtv - please be patient with me - this is not an exact science. The One Show's blogs are still a work in progress.
The house rule I'm thinking of is: "[comments that are] considered likely to disrupt, provoke, attack or offend others".
This blog post exists for viewers to have their say about tonight's show, and to find more information.
mplymouthd (hello mplymouthd) appears to have a sincere programme idea - that's been sparked by watching the programme. His request seems sincere and, it seems to me, he's not attempting to disrupt, provoke, attack or offend others.
Thanks for visiting The One Show website.

Hello hokeykokeyalex and mplymouthd, the house rule is:
"We reserve the right to fail messages which are considered to be off-topic for the particular message board."
This blog has to be a friendly place to visit, and a useful resource.
Mplymouthd - the producers of the show are aware you'd like to see presenters get gunged.
So, please would you stop posting that message repeatedly? hokeykokeyalex is right - this blog has to try and stay on topic to be useful.
But thanks for visiting The One Show website.

Hello hokeykokeyalex - the producers do read the blogs - they do try not to be "Londoncentric". I know from morning meetings that that the producers do try and make sure the programme reflects the whole of the UK - as they should!
The Assistant Producer of tonight's show tells me that of tonight's four films;
Mick Hucknall was filmed in Manchester.
Car Club - Bristol.
Plastic - Bournemouth.
And FOI was filmed around London - but that's because the office for FOI is located in London.

Does Christine ever read these posts? A couple of weeks ago a lot of bloggers criticised a top she was wearing which resembled a tea towel. Methinks it was the same one she was wearing tonight. Must be the cut in pay - credit crunch is affecting us all eh?

Strange forum this. I thought it was meant to for viewers to comment on tonight's show?

I actually liked Christines top 2night, I thought it was smart, however that's irrelevant, who cares what the presenters wear, its the show thats important, some guests I like, some I don't, Mr.T. he was great, Rolf Harris, great, Lee Mead, pretty boy but nothing much to say, its so sweet he misses his wife, bless him, mind you!! most blokes married to Denise Van Outen, would be upset if she disappeared up a mountain, don't you think? So many blogs wiped off 2night, what on earth have you all been saying?

Re Post 42- now even Ryan is being moderated! Fair enough!
Complain about this comment
Lee Mead is not yet married to Denise. For what it's worth (and my opinion is worth something!) I thought it was a lovely relaxed interview. Thought he didn't have much time to talk. I think people need to accept that not everyone is a loud mouth. Lee has a softer personality and I thought he did not look dumb or boring. Each to their own though!
Complain about this comment
Ladymindtwister my post was removed for asking doctoralbion what he had been saying, make sure you read this quickly before it too is removed!
Complain about this comment
Lee Mead is an incredibly charismatic performer it's just that he's quite reserved in interviews.
I always think the format of inviting a guest on and then practically ignoring them for the majority of the programme while the various current affairs presenters come on and talk about topics completely irrelevant to the guest is rather bizarre. They are probably more often than not left feeling on the sidelines and not really involved. There was a token mention of Lee's new album but other than that the poor fellow might as well not have been there!
Complain about this comment
post 53, beer2286, I stand corrected, perhaps I may have been too hard on Lee, after all some people can be a bit on the shy side, so! smack on the wrist for me. I thought they were married, but not a lot of people bother these days. post 54, cookygtv, read it in 3 seconds flat, we will never know what he said.

Lee Mead is by no means either dumb or boring. He just isn't loud and extrovert, that's all. In my opinion, he's interesting, courteous and genuine. I thought he did really well this evening.

It's such a strange format and Lee Mead is very much a speaks when spoken to sort of guy. Denise can maybe give him some tips on interview techinque she likes the sound of her own voice!
Complain about this comment
Denise is great for Lee. 18 months ago Lee would have really suffered on this type of show (that to be honest, is not something he's ever done before!)
Complain about this comment
I think Lee is great as an actor. When he's on stage he's really interesting to watch.
Complain about this comment
I agree with you, beer. Lee used to seem really uncomfortable on shows like this, but tonight he seemed happy and relaxed. I thought he came across really well. Good for him!
Complain about this comment
What did he actually say though? He didn't get a chance to say anything of any real substance. He rattled off the coat colors, tried to make some comment on the club cars, said when his album was out and then said, "I miss her" when Denise's message came on. They should have let him perform cos he comes across much better then. He's a shy boy. Nice but shy.
Complain about this comment
I guess that was the producers of The One Shows choice. They seem to have a lot of content into the half an hour programme and the topics they were discussing weren't really relevant to Lee. I agree, it would've been lovely to see him perform, but I'm happy with the interview that we got :) I thought the presenters interacted well with Lee. He did mention the possible new project which was good and speak about the songwriting!
Complain about this comment
I never said lee was boring, I thought he didnt have much to say, but now it has been pointed out, that he was left out of the conversation, then I take it back, and on reflection, maybe I shouldn't have used the term pretty boy, but he is a looker isn't he?
Complain about this comment
I know you didn't call him boring ladymindtwister, it was another poster who had the opinion that he was dumb and boring.
He is a bit of a looker!
Complain about this comment
Enjoyed the show. The Mick Hucknall bit was excellent.
Complain about this comment
It wasn't an interview. He's good looking, yes but from that you'd think that was all he had going for him which isn't true. Have you heard this man sing? Have you heard him really sing? So much better than a reality talent show winner! This wasn't an interview. He was just there!
Complain about this comment
I have heard him sing, plenty of times. But they don't tend to have artists singing a lot on the show do they?
Complain about this comment
Many of us have heard him sing plenty and we know he's amazing. This show's format doesn't generally allow for guests to perform so it was more about chatting to him instead. I thought Adrian and Christine did a very good job of making him feel relaxed and comfortable. He did so well.
Complain about this comment
No. They bring people on and then talk over them. Lee Mead is very good at what he does. He just doesn't handle the celebrity very well.
Complain about this comment
... because he's only been in the business for what.. 2 years? It'll come through time and experience. At least people recognise that he is talented at what he does.
Complain about this comment
I think he is getting better and better at handling the celebrity. He is definitely more relaxed in interviews than he was even a year ago. This sort of live show must be nerve-wracking if you're not used to it. I think he did very well.
Complain about this comment

I don't appreciate that comment actually. Is there any need to insult other forum members intelligence just because it conflicts with your personal opinion?
Complain about this comment
It's not very polite to call other forum users 'dumb.' We all watched the show so we are well aware of what he said. Actually what was mentioned in the Mick Hucknall piece was when the song was written, not when it was released.
Lee most definitely lacks neither personality, intelligence nor humour. So what if he was smiley? He has plenty to smile about.
Complain about this comment
The fact that he doesn't handle celebrity well isn't a criticism. A shy non-interview is better than some arrogant so and so talking about me, me, me. I do think there is a balance to be met though. This programme didn't do him any favours. Like I said, he was just "there." I don't think anyone but die-hard fans would have learned much about him from that.
Complain about this comment
The brief bit of singing I heard from Lee, I have to say I liked it, judging by tonight's blog, he appears to be a big hit, are we all women blogging tonight?
Complain about this comment
Glad you liked it ladymindtwister!! His full video is on youtube. I looked it up tonight!!! Glad you could appreciate what you saw tonight. I am female :)
In response to your post akaleslie.. I don't really learn anything much about "celebs" that go on the One Show.
Complain about this comment
This is such a shame. The format didn't given him the opportunity to engage in conversation. His strength is in performance. Here he had to be himself. His natural shyness may be a barrier to him winning more fans because even people I know who genuinely like him say he is hugely talented but dull. To my mind this appearance was a non-event because he was unable to showcase his talent.
Complain about this comment
That is a shame that you know some people that like him find him dull. I know people that have met him and found him to be incredibly lovely, very chatty and friendly.
I doubt it would lose him fans because people that went to see him perform would realise what a great performer and talent he is.
At the end of the day, I think we all agree that this wasn't the best format for him. I doubt very much that this will affect his career.
Complain about this comment
The people who said he was dull were actually people who met him believe it or not. They saw Joseph, were blown away by his presence and charisma on the stage and then less than enchanted by what they called his "lack of spark" off stage. I couldn't believe it myself because I've met him too and found him to be reserved but charming. I think it comes down to the way different people perceive shyness.

Thank you for having Lee Mead on the One Show last night. The format of the show has never bothered me before & didn't realise how much content has to be squeezed in to half-an-hour until last night when I wanted to hear more from this polite, charming and talented young man. It would have been lovely if he had been allowed to say more but he was interested in what others had to say and responded, in the time he was allowed, when asked. Seems dull might be another word for good-mannered these days.

Someone said in a post that Lee is nice but shy. BUT shy? so one can't be shy AND nice?
since when has shyness been something bad and regrettable? Being shy is just being somewhat insecure about yourself. It doesn't say much about your character.
You can be shy AND funny and other "normal" things like having friends and be considered interesting and just great.
Who thinks being shy is being dull obviously don't UNDERSTAND why someone is shy and maybe hasn't met many shy people therefore find them intimidating (in a way), precisely because they don't understand. Many comedians have been known to be shy. Actors and actresses too.
in conclusion, there's nothing WRONG with being shy.

On Last nights show Marty Jopson did a little article on the history of plastic, unfortunately I think he got a date wrong he said "Nylon tights were inverted or when on sale in the 1940's"
These are the correct dates and it should have been nylon stockings:-
The first all in one garment combining pants with a pair of stockings using sheer nylon (called tights) were produced in 1959 by Allen Gant Senior (Glen Raven Mills of North Carolina).
15th of May 1940 in New York the first nylons stocking when on sale, selling over 72,000 pairs in the first day alone, This was after Du Point ran a small trial in a department store in Wilmington, Delaware on 27 October 1939 to test the market.
It is just a small point as Marty was talking about the history of plastic then I feel it's important to bring this to the show's attention with the correct dates.
Thank you Pauline.
