What did you think of the show? (17/12/08)

Host_Ryan - One Show team | 17:56 UK time, Wednesday, 17 December 2008

Sir Michael Parkinson in the studioIt's not good for producer Paul's stress levels. At 6pm it looked like we were about to be evacuated from our studio due to flooding and a gas leak. Urgent meetings and phone calls later and the situation is now under control. The programme will go on.

Paul Bush in costumeOn tonight's show: Sir Michael Parkinson was the guest.

A 'brass monkey' (pictured right) appeared, too.

Interest rates are at an all time low - Dom Littlewood reported on what's been dubbed ' Britain's most expensive credit card ever'.

Justin Kerswell wished us all a very veggie Christmas. But is it Christmas without the meat dinner? Tell us, please.

Carol Kirkwood was dreaming of a white Christmas and Phil Tufnell travelled to Bethlehem (Wales), to discover the origin of its name.

Great piece on the "Provvie"....APRs are stratospheric because they build in all their costs of collecting at doorstep...etc and assumptions about delinquent loans. They posted big profits up last time.

BUT There is affordable lending out there! It is called Credit Unions. Typically the £500 loan mentioned in programme paid off over a year costs much less - about £70 in interest. And remember that although the Christmas Ghost chasing yr presenter was a pain - the Provident style themselves as friends of the family! That is how they insinuate themsleves with vulnerable people AND it is legal!

Adrian referred to a "Brass Monkey" and we saw somebody dressed as such. Pleased note that the expression about a Brass Monkey is nothing about Monkeys. The expression comes from the time that our warships fired cannon balls and the plate, made of brass, a monkey, which was used to stop them rolling about the deck. The problem came in cold weather with the plate being of different material to the cannon balls and hence different coeficient of expansion meant that the balls came off the plate. Not a vulgar expression at all but historical nautical detail !!!!

I always notice that Adrian and Christine sit apart then lean towards each other. Why don't they just sit closer ???

Nice to see the article about the Bethlehem post office and how Bethlehem in the UK got its name.

Perhaps the team should visit that place near Bear Regis in Dorset, "Shitterton". Would be worth a hand stamped letter anytime! Happy Christmas!

Please can Christine sit up straight, or just sit closer to Adrian. When watching the show, you feel you want to shout at the TV and encourager her to sit closer, this is very frustrating to watch.

I was surprised to hear that more youngsters knew simon cowell than God. The reason could be that simon cowell really exists.

I like the shows very much but have to say that I think they aren't quite as good as they were to start with. Can't put my finger on why - but wonder if there are too many different items - some folk seem to get cut off - guests especially - before they've really had much chance to contribute. Still like it though!

Arrrghh that Parkinson is such an arrogant git. In one sentence he bemoans the time when celebrities were people who achieved something, and a minute later he's spouting on about all the brilliant stuff he's done. He has done bugger all except sit and listen to a bunch of old fogies waffle on about how much they've done! His is a classic case of celebrity by association, and a bunch of rich people patting each other on the back whilst trying to appear 'common'. It makes me puke.

Excellent and Michael Parkinson was brilliant. Tuffers was very nice to him etc.

I wish Parkinson was back on our screens again.

Adrian if you ever need a holiday, ask Michael Parkinson to step in, he would be as equal as you!

Merry Christmas to everyone and all the best for 2009.

Hope WBA do well in the New Year? Remember when they were botton in the Premier League before at Christmas and they managed to stay up for another season!

Even though I am a Stoke City supporter

Just had a thought...Christine, you'd make a great Snow White and Adrian.... let's guess!

Seriously though, we think you are both great and love the show. Looking forward to seeing you and the team back soon. A Happy New Year to you all.

    Dear One Show.

Dominic is always mentioning Credit Unions.

I wonder if he would like to join his local Credit Union. It would give us a boost and some much needed publicity.

He would be made very welcome.
