The One Show's experiment in creating a classic Christmas pop song has finally been unleashed upon the public. 'Let's Not Fight This Christmas' by Chris Difford and the Decorations was given its world premiere on The One Show, Friday 5th December 2008.

Chris Difford is the Chris Difford of Squeeze - he supplied lead vocals and the lyrics. The Decorations are The One Show's family of presenters - they provided their singing voices and dancing skills. Luckily, Chris Difford is quite good at lead vocals and lyrics.

Will 'Let's Not Fight' scale the charts? The competition is fierce this year. Heavyweight contenders include Geraldine McQueen (aka Peter Kay), Aled Jones, Leona Lewis, Status Quo and the winner of the X-Factor. Click here to watch clips of some of the bookies' favourites to be top of the pops.

Let's Not Fight This Christmas by Chris Difford and the Decorations has been released as a download-only single. Children in Need will receive a minimum of 20p for every download purchased.

Our single will be available, as will many of its competitors, at many of the popular music-downloading websites. These outlets include: Napster, itunes, 7Digital, Orange, HMV, Vodafone, 3, Jamba, Nokia, Tesco, PlayCom, Virgin Mobile, T-Mobile Amazon and HMV. Please note: If your website is offering the single as a download and you're not on the list, please tell us and we'll add you to it.

Well done for proving the exception to the rule. It's not just a good Christmas song, but a great one. It's different (top marks to Chris Difford), catchy, sharp and well produced - i.e. it hasn't had the life polished out of it.

It'll happily rub shoulders with Slade, Mud, McCartney etc. on those Christmas compilations that come out on CD year after year. 25-1 are ridiculous odds and I'm off down to the bookies to make a killing.

I hear they're bringing TOTP back this Xmas. Better start practising now.
