December 2, 2008: Every night this week The One Show is putting festive hits under the music microscope. We're trying to find the formula for a Christmas classic.

Last night's programme saw Des Coleman chatting to Adrian and Christine about reviving the Christmas single, and Des announced a One Show experiment - can the programme have a festive hit in the pop charts by applying the lessons of number ones of Christmas past?

The lyrics have been written for us by Chris Difford of Squeeze and The One Show's family of presenters have got involved. All proceeds will go to Children in Need.

The competition is fierce this year. Heavyweight contenders for the number one spot include Geraldine McQueen (aka Peter Kay), Aled Jones, Leona Lewis, Status Quo and the winner of the X-Factor.

So keep watching the show to find out more. Our Christmas song and video will be revealed in all its glory on Friday's programme.
