What did you think of the show? (29/09/08)
Comedienne Meera Syal joined Adrian and Christine on the show.
Dom Littlewood met One Show viewer Christine Bryers who wrote in to tell us about her struggle to clear a small debt with a credit company which wouldn't accept her husband had passed away.
And Dr Sarah Jarvis opened her Curious Complaints surgery to look at hiccups - Chris Sands hasn't stopped for over a year.
Plus, we announced that the show's looking for people to part in the show who want to find a solution their complaints. Click here to find out more and take part.
The One Show's wildlife man, Mike Dilger spots some Dragonflies - which would ordinarily be in sunnier climes.

I just don't get the whole concept of the One Show. Could someone explain it to me? The whole story about the poor lady whose partner died seemed to miss vital information. For example, why didn't the lady just do what they asked. It seemed like quite a legitimate thing for them to ask. What about other examples? What about companies who do the right thing in these situations? Balance was certainly lacking. Then an (albeit great) actress and comedian was asked her opinion. Apart from expressing her own personal view (who was interested in that?) what credentials does she have to speak on the topic?

I would like to know the title of the book Giles was using in the show tonight. The one which had the real meanings of the Nursery Rhymes.

Unfortunately Christine was taught wrongly when she was told as a little girl that 'Ring A Ring Of Roses' was about the plague. Whilst this became an accepted theory sometime after the Second World War there is no evidence for it and most folklorists believe that it isn't true. Not least because the symptoms of plague (which are arguably not consistent with the Black Death anyway) don't appear in the earliest known versions which were recorded in the 1880s.
Sorry to correct you Christine. At least you were good on Strictly...

Oh and in reply to the questions as to the book that Giles had on Nursery Rhymes, I believe it was 'Pop Goes the Weasel: The Secret Meanings of Nursery Rhymes' by Albert Jack.
