All respect to the show for headlining the on-going problems in Cumbria-Amanda and the residents are right-the cameras will disappear and the residents will spend months getting things back to normal after the floods-my Sunday newspaper had 2 pages on the floods last week-end, but frequently has 6 page articles on Katie Price-also Children in Need has raised millions-surely some of this could go to the children on Cumbria-they are in obvious need.
On a lighter note Adrian seemed tetchy whilst introducing article on hairstyles-perhaps he is thinking of having a "Jedward"

Amanda said she and Chris wrote their will out just before they got married but i hope it was dated to start after the wedding as i believe that marridge anulls all wills previously.

Please can everyone pronounce Cockermouth properly? It's 'Cockerm'th.'
Yes, I am Cumbrian, but nobody pronounces 'Dartmouth' of 'Exmouth' or 'Bournemouth' as they're spelt!

The Show as usual was fun, however Amanda Holden - oh dear. I thought she was superficial (the comment about how 'most people underestimate the problems caused by flooding' or words to that effect, was "gob smacking"). And she was rude - the sheep shearing comment about the man with the unusual hair, at the same time as Christine and Chiles offering a top hairdresser to give his hair a make over- unnecessary. I think she was one of the worst guests so far.

Good to see a bit about Cockermouth, good also to see the way they've organised themselves - well done them. Why are the RE not sorting them out with temporary bridges? Doddle for them - used to do a Medium Girder Bridge at 2am in pitch black darkness across 50ft gaps in about 2 hours, so from hard level surface to another to 'join' to the street across the river in broad daylight is not a problem. Good idea by Amanda Holden to base a One show up there sometime when they're back on their feet. Best give Hokeykokeyalex some notice so he can prepare himself - get some Valium in to help with the excitement - maybe even give him a spot on the show while your up there - unless he's too shy of course!

PS Suggestion for Cockermouth - get hold of someone from the Royal Engineers to find out why they're not helping out? This is basic for the RE. Diversions of up to 80 miles can't be much fun. We helped civvies out in the storm of 87 why not now?
If you get old of them ask them about 'bridge gallops' great fun!

Amanda mentioned that she "upcycled", making waste items eg coffee jars into useful items. Is there anything anywhere on the bbc website where we can get details of subjects like this ?

Yes Natalie, I thought the same thing! I pronounce it as it should be, but only because I know people in the Lake District and know that's how it's pronounced. Having said that, surely news presenters should know how to say the names of places correctly.

Re: The Big Personality Test (23/11/09).
I laughed out loud when Professor Robert Winston analysed Adrian's results and said that the data showed that he was 'disagreeable and neurotic'. That was until I did the test myself- AND GOT THE SAME RESULTS!! At least I'm in good company. My results were really no surprise for me, because I'm a typical Virgo.
Thanks to watching The One Show, I am now involved in Brain Test Britain as well. Who says your show isn't educational? Keep up the good work. (p.s The show isn't the same when you have guest presenters.)

I don't know, I'm guessing here - but the pattern I've noticed (I think) is that your comment is referred to moderators if it mentions by name the guest or Adrian or Christine - even if 'ahem' complimentary!! Therefore I reckon something's been set up to automatically send your comment to a 'back-burner' until a human can give it the OK.

Seriously though, I'm with Jacko post 19 in that news readers, for instance should know - or look up before hand the proper pronounciation before going on air - it is their profession after all!
The English language is weird at times - Towcester = "toaster" ; Worcester = "wuster" etc. Must be murder to learn English if it's not your first language.

It was great to see Angellica Bell wearing an M65 Parker.
Ive got an M51 which was the forerunner of the M65 worn by the early Mods,this had an attatched hood with no fur. The M65 had a detatchable hood with fur.
If you can get her on a scooter she will look the biz!

What a carry on signing in tonight?whats happening?Post 20 so agree with you regarding presenters !there is no one like the regulars!the best !I am typical Virgo, and came up same !I am exactly as described ,a pain in neck!Amanda Holden was not my favourite guest, and ironic seeing her ex Les in papers today getting married again.
Our thoughts are with the people of Cockermouth who are going through hell , can only imagine what they are going through .looking at reports tonight weather has not improved .

Sorry to disagree but even though you live in a location it doesn't mean that you are automatically correct on your pronounciation.
The 'mouth' part of all your locations refers to the mouth of the relevant rivers - you obviously wouldn't say 'muth' of the river - would you? Unfortunately bad / lazy pronounciation is often percieved as correct (as in your finite statement)
I originate from Bristol and even though the locals pronounce it 'Brisl' it lends no credence to the correct pronounciation.
