There’s a gold star for Lynda, and a “see me” for Shula and Alistair. And Kathy? Listeners can’t seem to agree about Kathy.
Over at Bridge Farm listeners wonder if Tony is playing favourites with his children. Will Helen ever learn? And is Rob really stringing her along?
Here’s my pick of online discussions between 12 and 18 September 2013
As Ray is rumbled Lynda gets a gold star from listeners for being magnificent in Grey Gables’ hour of need. Many raised an eyebrow when Brian spotted what was going on with Ray and Mrs Shen. It takes one to know one!
Of course Brian would spot a philanderer from the other side of the county (Bill Gill on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
Those Bridge Farm Archers have been the subject of much debate – and it’s Tom v Tony over who’s been most unreasonable after Tom secretly borrowed Bridge Farm money to fix his cash flow problems. But is Tony playing favourites with his children?
Ha Tom's been fiddling the books for his personal gain.... tut, tut... (@AEC0303 on Twitter)
At least Tom put the money back. And before he was "found out" - he'd intended to do that all along. But Helen lied to Pat in the first place and now she's just digging that hole deeper and deeper. (Claire Kulagowski on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
I think it's ironic that Tony doesn't appreciate how hard working Tom actually is and that any business can have problems (has he forgotten the E-Coli disaster already?) yet Helen - who seems to run the shop on a part time basis and farms her child out to Tony & Pat every time Rob beckons for some canoodling - remains the golden girl! (Tracy Macheta on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
All these people with houses & property professing concern & not one offering shelter. (@decobroad on Twitter)
Low self esteem is the root of his problems and what has got him into trouble. Accepting her charity will only make that worse. (Liz Nutley on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
does Ilona know that Darryl is on the streets? Have to say I was agreeing with Alistair - till he (kinda) gave in....... (Gillian Corrigan on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
It's hard to know what to do, what you can do without giving offense. I've been in that position. I'm glad Shula is trying. Even though she's not quite getting it right, she's doing a darned sight more than anyone else in Ambridge. (Laura Jo Elzinga on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
There are mixed feelings about Kathy. And whilst some say they can’t bear this storyline, it’s elicited some long posts and discussions about her plight
Kathy has been too submissive, book that holiday and leave Martyn on the compost heap to rot down well with his tinned asparagus! (Lynda Everington on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
This Kathy/Martyn situation is becoming farcical. No employee would stand this and Martyn would be in an industrial tribunal. (@psalotti on Twitter)
I really like Kathy actually. Get very annoyed when people class her as a 'wimp' or 'whinger' or whatever. She's had a lot to contend with and she's been remarkably resilient, considering. Hang in there Kathy! (Adam Melling-Smith on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
I have had a few Martyns as bosses and even the odd Ray, I like the running of the two together in the current episodes. I empathise with Kathy because when you can't afford to lose your job you have to try to keep the boss ... Jon Glover as Martyn is playing his cheesy character perfectly, Will continue to listen avidly (Milan Heavy on The Archers blog)
Although I want to shout at Kathy to 'tell the so and so where to stick it', I know the dilemma she's in. Martyn is so uncannily like a former boss of mine that I feel my flesh creep every time I hear his voice. Utterly odious. And utterly accurate. In the end I resigned from my job. Wonder what Kathy will do? (Toxophillac on The Archers blog)
Kirsty’s advice to Helen to be careful was (almost) universally applauded. But most doubt Helen will take any notice. Many listeners picked up on Rob’s closing words to Jess on the phone and wondered… is he stringing Helen along with this ‘my wife doesn’t understand me’ line?
I actually shouted "You tell her!" at the radio and then felt embarrassed even though nobody heard me (Jozafeen Knights on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
Helen is being an utter chump. Again. At least she's consistent (Rona Skene on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
A good friend will always tell you how it is, even when you don't want to hear it. Well done Kirsty!! (Emma Tuke on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Yes, Kirsty should be more supportive. She's not her Mum! She's too 'sensible'. Helen needs this fling and needs a friend to talk to. (Christine Wilson on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Sometimes people do end up in the wrong marriage and then struggle to extricate themselves. I can't decide if Rob falls not that category or is just managing two women. Lets wait and see before we condemn. (Jane Wilson on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
Did everyone hear the 'me too' bit at the end of Rob's call?? Hmmmm ............. (Bill Osborne on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
