I'd like you to meet my colleague Jennifer Copestake, whom I mentioned in my initial post. She's on the trip too, filming a video blog for World News America.
And here she is, giving a guided tour of the bus:

Hello, I’m Jon Kelly and this is my blog. I’m on the BBC election bus, travelling across the US asking where Americans want their country to go.

Teh, meeting the different writers is fun. Yes, the ladies are lookers.
Rainlawrence, Sorry you were not in on BBC's planning process, but the bus is nice and I am glad they have come. Do you just disapprove of the cost, not like us Yanks, or both? We really are good folks. Scouts honor, we'll put the firearms away.;-)

To answer the question about cost, each BBC journalist on the bus is funded by the department which sent them. I'm funded by the BBC News website. A journalist from the World Service would be funded by the World Service. And so on.
The US election is one of the major news stories of the year and I think most of our audience would agree it's right that the BBC covers it. And organising the bus is more cost-effective than each of us hiring cars.
