Our much loved host and legend Sir Bruce Forsyth confirmed today that he is stepping down from presenting the Strictly Come Dancing live shows.

We are pleased to announce he will remain on BBC One to present the Strictly Christmas Special, the Strictly Children in Need Special and other one-off specials yet to be revealed.

The man himself said: “After ten wonderful years and eleven series, I believe it is now the right time to step down from the rigours of presenting the Strictly live shows. I am very proud of what the show has achieved and confident it will entertain the nation for many years to come. I am also delighted that by presenting the Christmas and Children In Need shows I will continue to have a strong association with Strictly. In addition, I am looking forward to the specials planned with the BBC as well as some live theatre shows, so before anyone asks.... I am not retiring quite yet!”

Over the years he has tapped danced, shimmied and even gangnam-styled into the studio. He always performed his own warm-up routine for the show and kept us entertained with his one liners...

I do hope the BBC listens to its viewers - NOT Claudia, NOT Nick Knowles (what does he know about dancing - do either of these two actually LIKE dancing???). Someone on another blog suggested Tommy Steele - now he would be great! Maturity and a perfect cv. So my top two are Gary Wilmot and Tommy Steele.

Brucie's replacement must have SCD in their heart and soul and not be just another presenter.

HELLO, BBC, PLEASE LISTEN TO US!

Thanks Bruce for the time you spent with the show - - and as Professional Dance Teachers my wife and I know that you had the experience and showbiz knowledge to comment on the occasions you did make comment!

A replacement will be hard to find - witty, good at ad libs, able to dance a bit, can play an instrument or two, can sing, can tell jokes, can do impressions (and of Bruce), has presented live TV, done West End musicals, plays in Panto,, can do the "Rat Pack" stuff, - - the list goes on. And he started in showbiz at the age of 14 or so - - Production team, check out Allan Stewart, he's yer man, but he might not want to interfere with his Panto commitments!

I WAS OVERJOYED AT BRUCES RETIREMENT, AS I CAN NOW START TO ENJOY STRICTLY MY ONLY FEAR NOW, IS THAT A FRIEND WHO TOLD ME THAT HE WAS BEING REPLACED BY CLAUDIA, WAS NOT WINDING ME UP AS I EXPECT FEMALES ON STRICTLY TO BE GLAMOUROUS AND NOT LOOK LIKE BUILDERS MATES. BEST WISHES AL.

Thank you Brucie - you will be missed!

I would like to suggest JON BISHOP as a possible replacement for Sir Bruce. I think he would fit the bill perfectly.

Well done Bruce - it's sad to see him go and he's done a great job but here's hoping the BBC pick the right presenters to keep the show going.
Obviously everyone has different ideas of who they'd want to present but I hope the BBC don't go with someone who makes it too dramatic (I like Barrowman but I'd prefer it to be someone who doesn't whip the atmosphere into borderline hysteria). My personal preference would be for the Claudia/Tess partnership to continue - they did brilliantly last year together so why shouldn't they get the show? An outsider for the job would definitely be a mistake. Fingers crossed the BBC makes the right choice.

Thanks Bruce for the last 10 years. Need to find someone big to fill your shoes now. Can think of several people but to avoid arguments going to keep their names to myself

I also have a bit of bad news too.....

anyone who was a regular blogger on the Strictly pages would know of a poster called Armchair Dancer. I posted before Christmas she was very very ill.....well unfortunately she passed away at the beginning of January.....

thought all the regulars should know....as lots of people had chatted to her
