Having managed to make it to the tenth week of Strictly, 2012, Nicky Byrne must have been feeling as though his nine lives were all but used up. He and Karen were no strange to the dreaded dance off, but after seen off Michael Vaughn just one week ago, the luck of the Irish finally ran out as Denise and James scored a unanimous judges vote against Nicky and Karen.

Characteristically positive and upbeat, Nicky said: “It has been just so much fun. It is the biggest and best show in the world. To come out every Saturday night is hard but it’s playing a different character, doing a different dance – it’s just been amazing. Karen, every week, every day has been incredible. We had a bit of a shaky start in terms of judges and stuff, but we just seemed to improve. I have to say thank you to the judges – you have been absolutely amazing with all your advice, all the people backstage – even the people that get you your coffee - I am going to miss the whole thing it’s been an amazing experience.”

With Nicky and Karen waving goodbye to the competition, we are now down to just five couples. Click below to see how they feel about this weekend’s results and the challenge ahead in next week’s semi-final.

Also...... agree with the comments about the judging. Good dancers (Louis, Nicky, etc) have been marked down for little mistakes yet Lisa never seems to get criticised for the massive blunders she makes. She constantly gets praised for her enthusiasm and "fun". These judges have lost their credibility. Time to have new ones - probably previous celeb winners of Strictly.

Won't be watching Strictly next season which is a pity because I have enjoyed it so much in the past, Lisa should have been out weeks ago. She is not a dancer and is technically very poor. She has stayed in at the expense of some good dancers. This is not a talent show, it is a dancing competition. If she wants to do her comic act she should have gone to Butlin's. Time to put much less emphasis on the public vote.

Her dance DVD got panned on Amazon and has been given an average rating of two stars. Some of the reviews are quite funny.

Personally I'm voting for Louis. Apparently he used to have dance offs with members of JLS. It was break dancing though and he wasn't paid so presumably I don't have to start calling him a gentleman professional.

You forgot to tell us what her dvd was like. Was there a lot of paso doble and viennese waltz in it?

SBDM, the words pot kettle and black come readily to mind! Did you actually read my response to Judith? Do I believe the lady professional ought not to be on Strictly and that she has an unfair advantage? Absolutely! Has she benifited from previous professional dance training including ones performed on the show? Yes. Did she admit this when challenged originally? No.
I have produced and directed around 10 amateur musical productions and have brought in a professional dance teacher to choreograph and train dancers when required. That is a million miles away from basic moves used by Westlife or Girls Aloud, which I would happily choreograph myself.
If arguing for basic fairness and integrity is sniping, I will happily plead guilty, but will continue to condemn a bad productin decision which has been exacerbated by James' woeful bleating on his partners' behalf!
As for voting, I simply refer to the final sentence of my reply to Judith!

Gorscot, you are hilarious you really are - unintentionally I can I assure you. You're waging a vendetta against Denise because she danced on the west end stage ten years ago, so you'll be voting for Kimberley who was dancing on the west end stage last year! And who spent the previous ten years dancing on stage with Girls Aloud!

Your accusation of untruthfullness is more serious however. What exactly has she lied about? And if you care to answer please provide quotes. Are you saying she denied appearing in Chicago? Or did she lie about brining out a workout dvd? How is the dvd by the way - did it get you nicely toned up? I presume you've got it since you seem to know so much about it?

Alternatively, you could just let the whole thing drop, vote for whoever you want to and let others vote for their favourites without having to read your constant sniping. You've made your point. Repeatedly...

Ah, the defenders of the lady professional turn nasty! Judith, the sex of the individual is completely irrelevant and I am concerned about why you raise that as an issue given that I have already stated that she is a talented lady. Nor in this case are we talking about childhood stage school. If you care to check the facts the personal one to one dance training she received as an adult included the charleston, which I believe was danced at Wembley, and the jive, yet another of her Strictly performances. Of greater importance still is her lack of truthfulness when the issue was first raised; not clever! The inept and huffy lecturing of the viewers by James on her behalf was frankly nauseating. Further, in relation to your comparison with Natalie Cassidy, there is a big difference between an exercise workout and a dance based dvd.
It does seem to me to be entirely appropriate to raise this issue, and it is much less offensive than describing the other celebs as "less talented underdogs", a highly odious, subjective value-judgement!
Finally, in relation to your misogynism assertion, I will be voting for Danni and Vincent, then Kimberley and Pasha, in that order, because I judge them to be the most entertaining. You are perfectly entitled to continue to vote for the lady professional.

"Was the lady professional paid for her stage roles or dance dvd? "

Jason Donovan had a similar background in stage musicals but I don't remember him getting quite this much flack about his experience. Natalie Cassidy was a stage school product, in 2007 she released a fitness DVD, "Natalie Cassidy's Then and Now Workout" but this didn't count against her when she was in SCD in 2009.

Stage school training and modern dance experience give someone a bit of a headstart in SCD. But being trained in modern dance is not the same thing as being trained in ballroom or Latin. In fact, if someone had got into bad habits in their previous dance training, I can imagine the SCD professionals actually having to undo quite a lot of bad habits. DVO has a bit of an advantage over contestants like Johnny Ball - but no more so than many of the other competitors. She's talented, she works hard and frankly the flack she's getting for being good is starting to smack of misogynism. God forbid a woman should be talented - oh no, let's just cheer on the less talented underdogs.

emasl@200 - "But what do you call a person then who was in Chicago for a year?? An amateur?"

I call her an professional ACTRESS, no more a professional dancer than Kimberley, Lisa or Dani.

murphymom@201 - Couldn't agree more about giving the personal attacks a rest.

    Now now children, play nicely.

I am not a Denise fan, but she is not a professional ballroom dancer, she is a professional theatre/west end star - big difference ok. You can tell that she does not do ballroom dancing for a living she is not as good as Flavia et al. James has been far too ambitious with her and it showed on Saturday. James has proved to be a disadvantage to Denise.

Let's lay off the jibes, personal attacks etc on the celebs and enjoy SCD for what it is - a BBC production. Let's stick to supportive comments in our team blogs etc, being nasty makes us bitter.
