Strictly Final 2013: Live Show

Online Team

After 13 weeks of dazzling displays of dance-floor action we have finally arrived at the climax to Strictly Come Dancing 2013. And this year is extra special as we have the first all-female final in the history of Strictly. The level of competition is going to be exceptionally high with Abbey, Sophie, Natalie and Susanna all proving that they have become skilled dancers in their own right.

The four remaining couples will first dance the Judges’ Choices; Susanna and Kevin will perform their Quickstep from Week Eight, Abbey and Aljaz will dance their Waltz from Week One, Natalie and Artem will perform the Cha Cha also from Week One and Sophie and Brendan will recreate their Vienesse Waltz from Week Ten.

All the couples then return to perform their Showdance – a brand new routine where basically anything goes, from lifts to style to props!

So take a deep breath, settle back on your favourite sofa, poor yourself a nerve-settling drink and get ready for a spectacular show which will blow you away.

Let us know who you think is ready to be crowned Queen of the Ballroom and who might be eliminated first!

I've seen suggestions that there should be a new presentation team. If it's true that Sir Bruce has signed up for the 2014 series, then I think that side of things should be left alone, as they work well together and people like to see familiar faces. However see my previous post and they need to get Bruce's auto-cue working better.

That said, I do feel that the BBC need to make some other changes. First the judges - Craig is about the only one who is consistent with his comments and usually his marking. Bruno can also make sensible comment but has been a little too off the wall and needs to be told to tone it down a touch. Len, sorry time for you to retire. You seem incapable of scoring sensibly and adequately distinguishing between the couples especially by giving too high marks particularly early on. You've also made some rather stupid comments. Darcie should also go, for similar reasons with the scoring which on some occasions just seem to have been to spite Craig's lower scores when he's commented on loads of errors. Both Len and Darcie comes across as wanting to make all the dancers their "favourites". They should be replaced by Karen Hardy and Ian Waite and I'd like to see Arlene Phillips on the panel as well, making 5 judges so we don't have any "head judge" casting vote.

The points system needs to change so that the bottom of the leader board will always get 1 point and where there is a points tie, then the score below should be 2 points lower as is traditional, not the BBC fudged system as at present. After all, if our licence money is to pay for professional judges to comment and score the dancers (sensibly) then it should be more difficult for a silly public (popularity) vote to keep the lowest score out of the dance-off. The great majority of viewers watch it to be entertained by the dancing and do not want to see better dancers, as they see it, going out of the show too early. They want to enjoy the good dancers for as long as possible which also means improve the selection process a bit.

And that is where the production team either needs to change or been given a jolly good kicking for what appears to be manipulation. There was a number of occasions where the judges appeared to either ignore errors made by some dancers or mark too highly. The fact that this seemed to happen on several occasions would suggest that the producers are ignoring it or encouraging it to happen. Maybe they think that the controversy that ensues and subsequent publicity is good for the viewing figures. Well think again. The X-Factor tried those tactics and look what's happened there. I'm absolutely sure we all don't want to see Strictly go the same way.

Looking forward to the next series with some improvements. Happy New Year to everyone.

I don't think Sir Bruce writes all his own jokes - he certainly could do with a new script writer to help. But I thought he was quite funny during the final.

So - all over for another year. I didn't watch past the first dances in the final and, as previously said, won't be watching next year. IMHO (please note, fan - atics, it's just my opinion!) there's too much that has changed for the worse. It's not the same nice uncomplicated show anymore.

And even more so that Sir Bruce has been signed up again !!! Really ? I mean, REALLY ? This is the same compare that called Darcey Dave, and Abbi Sophie......let alone all the gaffes, poor auto cue reading and less than funny jokes. This decision is even more surreal than Sir Bruce's performances......

    Discuss................

So long, dance fans and remember, it's just my opinion !

    A disappointed former fan.

And a merry xmas and happy new year to you too SGL:( I'm afraid I'm going to agree with kinwar. It was a great result for Abbey but it's not so much that you were pleased that Susanna didn't win as she wasn't as good a dancer, it was the way you expressed it, which I agree came over as rather nasty - spiteful, not the sort of thing most want to see here.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the Xmas special, also everyone else, shame there wasn't a BBC blog for it this year. Never mind. Happy New Year to everyone as well, hope you had a good Xmas.

    1772 Kinwar

Thank goodness that is your last comment for what it is worth. The contest was finally one by someone who could dance and the public came to their senses.

The judges had made it clear that Susannah had limitations. However, she had her particular agenda and some of the public finally saw through her.

You are the one who needs to get a life !

One last comment: What a really sad person you must be 1770 SGL. What ever happened to peace on earth and goodwill to all. Clearly bypassed you. All the couples were brilliant and it was down to the couple who had the most support in the end. Well done all of them. Get a life is my advice to you. Merry Christmas

Yes Natalie had dance training but did she have Ballroom and Latin training - Probably no. Every year we give out about some one like Natalie , Denise van Outen, Jill Halfpenny Kimberley walsh - they had dance training.

I feel lost tonight . I have nothing to watch on TV seen that SCD is over - well least we hsve christmas day and we have the live tour in Jan and Feb.

    Keep dancing.

FOSO If you are still there thank you. I have found myself trawling through and just picking up y0ur blogs as they were guaranteed to be clear eyed, intelligent and balanced. I did quite enjoy your knack of picking off- or ticking off- the irrational or vitriolic! I found myself drawn to Sophie's charming allure, but really enjoyed Susanna's enthusiasm, Natalie's talent- Wow for that show dance and Abbey's obvious delight in dancing. Happy Christmas.

Pip.... Hate is such a terrible word to use. . Especially against someone not known personally to an individual. I would understand any future celebrities given offer to take part in Strictly politely declining as they would not wish to leave themselves open to nasty horrid bitchy members of the public raking through their personal lives and past experiences and use any information true or false to hurt them.
