Diary reminder - Strictly schedule for Semi Finals and Final

Post categories:

BBC Eurovision Paul BBC Eurovision Paul | 16:34 UK time, Wednesday, 8 December 2010

We're hurtling towards the thrilling climax to this year's Strictly Come Dancing - in fact, there are only TWO weekends left until we discover who will succeed Chris Hollins and Ola Jordan as the next Strictly Come Dancing champions.
Just to make sure you don't miss any of the excitement, here's all of the details you'll need to know about WHEN you need to be watching!

This year, Strictly Come Dancing's Semi-Finals will take place over a scintillating THREE nights. The thrills kick off this Friday night at 9pm on BBC One with our first LIVE semi-final show. Firstly, all of our five remaining couples will perform a dance as per normal, and will be marked in the usual way by the judges.

Then, all five couples will take to the floor at the same time to perform in a group "Swing-a-Thon".

During the Swing-A-Thon dance, the judges will confer and Head Judge Len Goodman will eliminate one couple at a time. If the judges cannot agree the order the couples are eliminated then Head Judge Len will have the final say. When a couple is eliminated they will leave the floor but the remaining couples will keep dancing until only one couple is left.

The first to be eliminated will score 1, the second couple eliminated will score 2, the third couple 3, and the fourth couple eliminated score 4. The last couple still dancing will receive the maximum score of 5. These scores will be added to that night's leader board and carried over to the next night.

We all return to the dancefloor for a second LIVE night of dancing on Saturday 11th Dec, from 6pm to 7pm. Each couple will then perform a THIRD dance and be marked by the judges. All three judges' scores will be added together to produce a final leaderboard - after which, phone lines will open and YOU will be able to vote for your favourite couples.

The results of that public vote will be revealed in our Results Show on Sunday night at 7pm (NOTE the slightly EARLIER time than usual!) - a very special show that will also feature a performance by Take That! Sadly, at the end of the Results Show, we'll say farewell to TWO COUPLES, leaving THREE couples to compete in the Grand Final.

After months of hard work and training, our three surviving couples will come together to perform for the prestigious Glitterball Trophy in the Grand Final of Strictly Come Dancing 2010 on Saturday 18th December. There will be two LIVE shows on Saturday 18th - first from 7pm to 8pm, and then later in the evening from 9.05pm to 10.05pm, when the eventual champions will be revealed.

But the Grand Final isn't the last you'll hear from Strictly Come Dancing this year - there's the festive glitter of our spectacular Christmas Special to look forward to!

Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly

Five brand new celebrities - TV presenter Fern Britton, EastEnders' Dot Cotton - actress June Brown, the Rt Hon Vince Cable MP, Comedienne Ronni Ancona and actor/entertainer John Barrowman - will take to the floor in a seasonal display of spectacular dancing - and they'll be joined by some of the most popular couples from Strictly 2010 too! You can catch this special show on Christmas Day at 7pm, right after the Doctor Who Christmas Special on BBC One.

Don't miss a second of this year's Strictly Come Dancing Semi-Finals and Grand Final. But if you do, don't forget you can catch up with BBC iPlayer. And don't miss Claudia Winkleman on It Takes Two every weekday evening at 6.30pm on BBC Two!

  • Comment number 1.

Thank you for all the news about the times for the semi final and final. i will remember to sky plus the final as unfortunatly i have a golden wedding party to attend. Much rather stop in and watch strictly.Saturday nights will not be the same once it has finished. Thanks again.

  • Comment number 2.

I watched strictly for the first time last year and loved it. The standard is fabulous. I am rooting for Pamela and James. I just love Dave Arch and his wonderful, wonderful orchestra! Good Luck everyone!

  • Comment number 3.

Glad you're enjoying it so much, Amelie! :) And mags, I know! What *ARE* we all going to do with ourselves once it's finished for 2010?!

  • Comment number 4.

Talking about Dave Arch think we need to do a whip round next year to get him a new tie. Have noticed the past two years at least he only seems to wear two different ties. Lol! That aside I think the singers and band are wonderful!!

  • Comment number 5.

I'm certainly looking forward to it; but it's interesting that the reasons given for inflicting the Sunday results show on us this year don't apply to the final.

  • Comment number 6.

The semi final weekend is just what the doctor ordered for this dreadful weather. 3 nights of dancing excellence from very good dancers and (hopefully) the best 3 to go through to the final. I did a few foxtrot steps on the ice today (probably end up on youtube!) but I hope Pam, Kara, Scott, Matt and Gavin do a lot better!
Ideally they would all win the Glitterball, but I'm keeping a very open mind for a winner yet.

  • Comment number 7.

I want to see tonight's it takes 2 it's usually on catch up on demand and failing that, on this website!! but it isn't on!! Help!

  • Comment number 8.

Heard about Louis Walsh comments about Brucie, well don't worry we are all behind him, see 'Brucie Batters Boyzone Buffoon' article http://www.dance-singles.com/news/strictly-brucie-batters-boyzone-buffoon/
X-Factor is just an old format 'Opportunity Knocks' copycat!

  • Comment number 9.

    To BBC Strictly Paul

Please would it be possible to have just one final 'It Takes Two' with Claudia, after the winners have been crowned, on the Monday after the final show?
I always feel there should be one further program for the winners to appear on, with a re-cap of the best bits of the series, just to wrap everything up...

  • Comment number 10.

Plus the losing finalists never get a best bits slot :¬ (

  • Comment number 11.

    Ref: dixiedancer & MrsArcanum above.

Hear, Hear Paul there should be a wrap IT2 to tie up the loose ends!

    Keeeep Dancing!!!

  • Comment number 12.

    8. "don't worry we are all behind him"
    Speak for yourself.

  • Comment number 13.

demaptera, Et vous aussi! I'm Backing Brucie!

  • Comment number 14.

I think it would be great to have a ITT show after the final to get the reactions from all the contestants and maybe see some funny bits like out takes at the end of some films. And also to hear what they will be doing after Strictly.

    Isle of Man

  • Comment number 15.

I'm afraid there's no post-Final ITT scheduled for this year. Sorry everyone! All of the TV schedules are now 'locked' all the way through to the New Year already.

We'll be doing some post-Final coverage here on the website, including interviews with the winning couple. Hope that's some small consolation!

  • Comment number 16.

Dear Claud, if I may be so bold to call you by your stage name. I have read with interest and growing curiosity verging on obsession about the Swing a Thon. Having searched the internet and finding some rather dubious results I am even more confussed. Bring it on I say, lets see then bopping around like littel dodge em cars. By the way, yes, bopping is a technical dance term.

  • Comment number 17.

I'm so looking forward to this. Seems more exciting than previous years, maybe because of all the dances being different (except for K&A and G&K both doing the VW), and the double elimination. Plus all the couples deserve to be there - OK, Gavin may not be the best of dancers but he's worked hard and developed the most out of the five. And you never know, especially with this series, who'll stay and who'll go.

Three nights of SCD and it's not even the final!

  • Comment number 18.

Not really an excuse, strictly Paul because if something happened to eg any member of our Royal Family, you know that all progs would immediately be re-scheduled at the drop of a hat. Nothings written in stone.

  • Comment number 19.

Can't wait for the semi final and the final next week. Promises to be one of the best ever!!!!

Can you clarify what dances will be completed in the final. Will it be a reprisal of best ballroom/best latin plus showdance or will they be doing the dances they have yet to perform?

    (i.e Matt - Paso & Waltz and Kara - Samba & Waltz)

    Any info much appreciated!

  • Comment number 20.

Am I alone in questioning, why tonight's show is now at a later time?
All the emphasis up till now has been it is on early because it is a family show, hence, Ladies and gentlemen and children. What has changed?
One night on early for the young children then suddenly it doesn't matter. Is it because the BBC is juggling the times for the ratings and don't really care about the younger viewers. How could anyone think that of the BBC? What do I know?

  • Comment number 21.

is there to be a, Strictly Come Dancing "The Professionals" tour in 2011?
Saw this years at the Mayflower, Southampton and it was absolutely brilliant.

  • Comment number 22.

Good luck to all this week-I would not like to be a judge this year-What a fantastic group of celeb dancers this year. I just love Kara & Matt (natural dancers) But Scott & Pamela are Brilliant too. Gavin is showing improvement at last.
Congrats to all the crew involved especially the dressmakers.Loving every minute of the show

  • Comment number 23.

  • Comment number 24.

I would just like to say how rubbish the scheduling of tonight's (friday) semi final is. Strictly has a large young fan base. My little boy has been looking forward to seeing tonight's show all day and when I checked to see what time it is on and I had to tell him that it was on at NINE pm he burst into tears. I am a relatively liberal mother but even for me that's too late to let him stay up. I know the BBC will say he can he can see it on iPlayer but actually that's not the point. I thought I was going to have a happy un-disgruntled run up to the final now that Ann is no longer in the competition but I see that I am not :-)

  • Comment number 25.

sorry, but can I add a "complaint " too about the timing of tonight's show, as the 2 above
we watch with 3 children aged 3-10, who know every detail of every couple's scores/past dances/previous matches of pros and celebs etc
there is no way they can stay up until 10pm
even the 3yo when we simplify it for her and call it The Dancing Show, corrects us and says "Strictly"
how disappointing for them, and for me to watch it without them
I had hyped it up on the way home, "don't forget it's Strictly tonight, must check the time....." presuming about 7.30pm
all very disappointed with BBC scheduling

  • Comment number 26.

Looking forward to the rest of the series, especially now that a certain "dancer": has been voted off.

Now, what i would love to see would be a special about the band...especially the singers. The quality of their singing and playing, week in and week out, in so many different styles, seems to be a sadly neglected part of the show. Without the band, the show wouldn't be half as good as it is!

    Anybody else agree?

  • Comment number 27.

I love the interviews with the celebs and pros. BUT there never seems to be much time to discuss the dances and their various moves/steps. Perhaps less of items like today's Jared as a spy? More of Len's surgery and pro's analysis?

  • Comment number 28.

Anton to compere next year. Bruce's attempt at jokes spoil the show

  • Comment number 29.

PS, next year, I hope Flavia gets teamed with a potential finalist. Such a shame to see her going out so soon. She's MY favourite!

  • Comment number 30.

re 26 - Timbobby, Dave Arch & His Orchestra are completely amazing. They always seems to produce a brilliant version of every song they come out with. When they did I Gotta Feeling for Ali Bastion's Cha Cha Cha I was blown away. Eat your heart out BEP! Considering the wide variety of songs they have to sing each night they are so perfect each time. I could listen to them forever. They could get anyone up dancing. Last week they truly excelled themselves though. They really do make SCD.

  • Comment number 31.

The judges obviously have decided that Matt's not going to win so he'll have to rely on the phone vote to get him through to final

  • Comment number 32.

I have avoided thinking that the judges are biased against Matt and Aliona but tonight I can't take anymore. They seem to have it in for Aliona's choreography particularly. They're happy to put up with Anne (apart from Craig I must say) but they can't think outside of the box when it comes to putting a new face on a dance.

Actually I think they have it in for all the boys. I don't want to think it's a set up but I can't pretend any longer. Why hasn't Pamela gone from the Swingathon yet? She's worse than Scott. See what I mean?!!!

  • Comment number 33.

What on this earth does Matt have to do????? For crying out loud the man is never off the tv or local and national transport to get to said tv programmes!!!!!!! And he has not once complained about it unlike others we shall not mention - oh oh oh my eastenders schedule is sooooo tough!
Bias is rife it is so obvious who they want to win and as for Craig and aleshas comment that the swingathon came down to stamina well course it did and the last "dance" before that was rather vigorous so course energy levels will be flagging was there a complaint NO!!!!!!!
Im backing Matt all the way!

  • Comment number 34.

TC117 I am in complete agreement!

  • Comment number 35.

Why have the judges consistently excused Scott's poorer performances (there have been several) but are unduly harsh about Matt? and despite Gavin's clear improvement last week and this they give him no credit. Do they decide in week 1 who they like/dislike and just comment/mark accordingly? I will be voting for Matt if they are unfair on him tomorrow

  • Comment number 36.

I agree with you LD73. What does Matt have to do to win their approval? I'm sick of Scott getting all the support from the judges - Natalie led well tonight didn't she!! Poor Matt & Aliona. He will be getting ALL my votes tomorrow evening. Scott and Gavin definitely won't be.

  • Comment number 37.

I agree with Dixiedancer - we really need a Strictly Takes Two show on the Monday night after the Glitterball has been raised by the winners!! Would be so nice to see them all and have a sort of "de-briefing" programme, in other words - the last 3 celebs & pros should appear in the show.

  • Comment number 38.

I will not be watching strictly again if Matt does not get through -I think the judges are more biased this year than ever and I am very surprised at Craig, I thought he was the one that was in tune with the rest of us.

  • Comment number 39.

I figure that there's a minority of the license payers are in the South/London area. So why are we seeing a clear bias to these contestants? If they want a North/South divide bring it on!

  • Comment number 40.

I utterley agree with LD73's comment above - what does Matt have to do to impress the judges?! I love the show and have been following it from the beginning, so therefore am a dance specialist lay person (!). I see that Matt doesn't have the performance skills that some of the rest bring to the party - but, really, to crush the man like that tonight when Gavin Henson is still in the competition and they're praising him for 'improving' - seriously?! Matt has been consistent throughout, ie, a brilliant technician, and now they're penalising him for that? The man has a supreme work ethic and wishes to excel at everything that he does. Yeah, he had a gymnastic background - but hey, Gavid Henson plays professional sports, Kara must have had some dance background - Scott is a sure natural (aka actor) - Pamela (aka actress), sublime - but you can bet your bottom dollar that the judges are always thinking of Pamela's age (in case you blinked during the show... she's 61). I think that it's been a blinding season this year - and I nearly gave up on it after last year. However, judges - be fair and mark from a level playing field, ie, what you see on the night (as you claim to do).

OK - getting off my soap-box now! Thanks - still fab entertainment.

  • Comment number 41.

Thanks for agreeing gillywise7. It doesn't seem that they are going to oblige us with a wrap ITT though.

  • Comment number 42.

This comment was removed because the moderators found it broke the house rules. Explain.

  • Comment number 43.

We love Matt! We think he is a brilliant guy and spectacular dancer. We will be definitely voting for him tonight as strictly would not be as cheery without his smiley face. Really felt like giving him a huge hug when the judges gave their diabolical comments. We think that Matt is merely following guidance from Aliona, who unfortunately doesn't seem to have a good understanding of the judges and how they award decent marks. Would love to see Matt getting tens as we feel he deserves them entirely and is severely under-marked! His dancing is immaculate.. would LOVE to see him the final! May have to vote for him 20 times! LOVE YOU MATT! DON'T BE DISHEARTENED BY THE JUDGES COMMENTS!

  • Comment number 44.

I do agree with most of the comments above. The judges ARE penalising Matt, what for I do not know. It seems as though they do not want him to win. He has had no 10'a where Scott has and Matt is the better dancer. The only thing I can say is that it is a FIX, the judges already know who is going to win.
If there is another Strictly next year I think the judges should be change i.e. Keep Craig and get rid of Grumpy Len - he is now past it, Alesha as she does not know anything about dancing just because she won it does not make her a professional and Bruno has lost it somewhere - he is certainly going OTT.
I suggest Craig, Karen Hardy,Matt Cutler and another Professionla. After the performance and comments tbis year it does need a clean sweep, otherwise a lot of people will not be watching. Please, please BBC do something about this.

  • Comment number 45.

    malc, stop being a bigot.

  • Comment number 46.

Have to say i an tending to agree with some of the comments above...There does seem to be a clear intention to get Pam to win, not that i am decrying what she has done, so far, but i agree, especially after Matt's performance last night, that they are consistently under scoring him.

There were two absolute knockout dances last night, Kara and Matt. No-one else really came close, and, given the way the series has gone so far, the final should really be between them.

But i suspect that Pam is the one the judges want to win.

  • Comment number 47.

Ann and Anton were the best why did they go
    I was sooooooo entertaining

  • Comment number 48.

    'I was soooooo entertaining'?????????????????????????
    they're gone, get over it!

  • Comment number 49.

Just popped over to wish all the contestants 'Good Luck' and may the BEST dancers go through.

  • Comment number 50.

great show but HELP what was the music did Kara Tointon dance to. Brain freeze

  • Comment number 51.

Great show Saturday Night. My Wife and I tried for the Full Hour to Vote for Kara Tointon but the lines were blocked and even though we kept redialing and rechecking that we had the correct number we were unable to get through to register our Vote. Not good for the charity or Kara who we feel stands out as the best of all the dancers. Shame that the judges are Biased towards Pamela Stephenson. She does well for a women of 61 but is never as harshly judged as the other younger contestants. Is it a fix this year? Do we have to watch this older lady get in our opinion undeserved praise for (very good for a 61 year old) attempts at dancing? While the younger contestants get unfair distructive criticism, and lower marks than Pamela!!

We say its time to change the judges on this show, Lets have a team of some of the old Professional Dancers who really know what to look for and would hopefully be less concerned about their own popularity and consider who the real stars are when scoring and giving feedback!

Bruce is the greatest and has kept me and our freinds watching
Even when we felt thejudges had it all wrong!

  • Comment number 52.

Kara was so beautiful both nights but tonight was so emotional I could have cried best of the night by far but not quite the highest score it doesnt make sense yet Pam got all 10s. Dont get what people see in Pam or Matt. Matt over acts everything and should just be more natural and watch his hands and feet. Hopefully Gavin Matt or Pam will go.

  • Comment number 53.

    angela @ 52

Agree with you that Kara is beautiful, despite the dodgy dress tonight.

I believe that the Final will be:

    Kara & Atrem

    Matt & Aliona

    Pamela & James

    Sweet Dreams.

    Keeeep Dancing!!!

  • Comment number 54.

Good Luck to all the couples .. fingers crossed my ideal final would be Tara, Matt and Gavin.
Has anyone else been irritated by the amount of air time given to one of the contestants husband this series ?

  • Comment number 55.

Kara, Matt and Gavin for the Final ! Good Luck to them.
High time that Pamela goes to sit in the audiance with her husband, the judges have championed her (and husband ~ smarmy or what ??) farr tooooo long !!. Their bias when scoring has been embarrasing ..
Claudia is a breath of fresh air .. agree a follow up programme another year would be the way forward.

  • Comment number 56.

    @ foxhollow,
I totally agree - I too think Scott and Pamala have had their time. GAVIN, MATT and KARA FOR THE FINAL!!
I would love all of them to be in the final, mainly for one reason - their journeys! They've all had ups and downs, had the odd dance where they didn't quite pull it off, but each and every week they've all come back fighting!!

Gavin and Katya - ok, they may not be the best dancers, but when they nail it it's excellent! I loved their Foxtrot last week and I though he really put alot of effort into their V.Walzt last night (it deserved way more than a 6!!!)!

Kara and Artem - I think Kara is amazing! She'd nerver danced at all before Strictly, and now look! I think it's partly down to Artem. I think he's a really good adition to Strictly - I hope they don't drop him next year!

Matt and Aliona - I think Matt is a great all-rounder. He seems to be able to do everything, Latin, Ballroom, backflips - you name it, he can do it! I though his Tango was extreamly good last night, some well deserved 10s!

I don't think i can wait another 6 hours and 20 mins untill the show - I just really want to know whos in the final 3!!!!!!

  • Comment number 57.

All the finalists are amazing, but it is obvious that the judges are favouring Pamela and James which is very bias, is this because Ola won the title last year?
Pamela is good especially for her age (I am older so no disrespect) but come on Kara and Matt have been fantastic all the way through. Scott started off amazing darling and Gavin has improved enormously but this week Gavin & Pamela should go gracefully.

  • Comment number 58.

I think Kara should win, she danced beautifully.

  • Comment number 59.

I do so hope that Matt makes it he has been under marked all the way through.
Anybody else think that we need a change of judges?
I have complained to the BBC about the biased judging, but you don't get far.
Perhaps if more people complained they may chamge them for next year.
Alisha makes out she's a professional, which she isn't, and I have certainly had enough of Bruno.
If he says Scooooooot once more I will scream.
Hope Scot and Natalie go, they have done nothing but winge all the way through about his work load, so what, Matt's was worse, he was travelling all over the country with his job, but did you hear him complain?
Yes I agree with the earlier comments, why do we have to keep looking at Billy in the audience?
I am beginning to wonder if this programme is a fix?

  • Comment number 60.

If you feel cross about aspects of strictly please google "BBC complaints" and formalise this. I have complained here for two reasons 1) the inconsistent and biased nature of the marking 2) the rudeness and ill manners of two members of the panel, on what is supposed to be a "family" show.
I am no AW fan, its her politics, nothing to do with her dancing. In fact "Strictly" has a rather charming tradition of duff dancers who last way beyond their ability. I'll always remember Chris Parker's Batman routine. No, I really object to the way Bruno spoke to her, this was playground bullying and not a good example to any kids watching.
As for Len, his bad temper, rudeness and homophobia has gone too far. This is supposed to be a light hearted piece of froth to help us pass this dreary Winter. For goodness sake let's return to fun, fairness and good manners.

  • Comment number 61.

There should be an ITT on Monday evening after the final to wrap it all up - those closest to the final miss out on a chat with Claud and we the viewers are deprived of seeing them behind the scenes.

I was terribly disappointed for Matt on Friday - he looked so unhappy and did so well to remain composed. Big hugs! And then he went on to dance in the Swingathon - well done Matt for keeping going. But the tango was amazing and thank goodness common sense prevailed and the 10's came his way - but he should have got 4! I wonder if the judges realised they had overstepped the mark? In any event, in criticising the celebrity, the are not taking into consideration the contribution from the professional - are they not the choreographers?

Keep you chin up Matt, I think you are amazing and you are making the North East so proud of you.

  • Comment number 62.

Well done Kara, Pamela and Matt for making it to the final. I was so pleased that Matt got through after Friday night. He looked so upset and miserable after the judges comments/scores that I just wanted to give him a big hug.

I can't wait until next week's final - it's anybody's really - and I am particularly looking forward to the show dances. Bring it on!

  • Comment number 63.

Matt and Aliona to win. Seriously undermarked throughout. The only couple who are 'backflipping' marvelous!

  • Comment number 64.

Was so good to see Gavin and Scott be so gracious - all the dancers have had such an opportunity and they took it with open hands and produced golden results.

The only show ever to capture my thoughts and heart, everything is so well done. (Aside from acid comments from Craig which could be worded with less cruelty and upset to people who have given their all).
Bruce, Tess it Takes Two are such a good teams and present the shows in such a pleasurable, educational and entertaining way, Bruce and Tess rule!!

Thank you to all the people involved for a show full of warmth and goodness.

  • Comment number 65.

Terrific feedback from all the judges, Alesha has been good for the show as she feedbacks helpful dancing information and offers 'advice' from a healthy and useful stance. If it wasn't for Alesha joining the team I would have stopped watching as I found the hurtful and needless feedback full of poison and disrespect too incrediulous to be bothered with. who needs to listen to put downs???
Viva Alesha and love Bruno for his technical info and full recognition of passion and intent.

  • Comment number 66.

    Quick question

Is strictly live or pre- recorded?
People are saying that it is pre-recorded

  • Comment number 67.

This may be a very silly qustion but is it possible to get to the latest blog quickly?

  • Comment number 68.

I wasn't looking forward to this year's Strictly after more changes but have to say it's been fantastic with some great dances involved. I do hope you will consider some changes to ITT. There is far too much padding in the programme usually involving the professional dances who have recently been eliminated and hopefully next season it can include far more discussions, training, videos, interviews and interesting features about just what it takes to make a programme like Strictly Come Dancing.

  • Comment number 69.

Cant wait to see the final on Sat but sooo sad it will all be over!! Also looking forward to tonights hour long ITT but there again sooo sad that is the end of that as well. Think Claudia is brill and she makes me laugh with all her funny facial expressions and tongue in cheek comments. Merry Christmas all and have a Happy New Year!!
