Hey everyone - there's some very exciting news about this year's Strictly Come Dancing Sunday night results shows that's just been released by the BBC Press Office. Here's their press release:

STRICTLY WALTZES BACK ONTO SCREENS WITH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT SHOWS

Series eight of Strictly Come Dancing will return with a live Saturday night competition followed by a Sunday night results show in which viewers will see their favourite competitors saved from elimination.

The Sunday night results show will be presented together by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

BBC Controller of Entertainment Commissioning Mark Linsey says "Strictly pioneered the Sunday night results format and this year we're back with the perfect finish to the weekend.  Tess and Claudia were the obvious choices to present and we're really proud that a fresh Strictly will return with must-see, family event television."

The 30-minute results show will not feature a dance off, but will feature a pro-dance performance and the all-important elimination.

The first live competition shows will be split over Friday October 1st and Saturday October 2nd and won't be followed by a results show.  Instead, the judges will score the competitors to create a leader board, which will be carried over to the second week.   The show will then follow a Saturday night competition followed by Sunday night results format. This will allow audiences two weeks to decide on their favourite before voting.

Claudia Winkleman says "I'm properly excited about working alongside Tess on the Sunday results show. I'll be fully immersed in all things tango and sequin as I'm still hosting It Takes Two weeknights on BBC Two as well. They've just told me the line-up. One word. Excited."

Series eight of Strictly Come Dancing will launch with a one-hour show on September 11th, and the first live show will transmit on October 1st.  The first results show hosted by Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly will transmit on October 10th.

So there's some big news there, isn't there? Are you excited by the new format for the Sunday results show? Share your thoughts below!

Can't wait for Strictly to get back on the screen - I've missed it so much, I'm seriously down on my sequin quota for the year.

I thought Claudia did a great job filling in for Bruce last year so I'm thrilled she's doing the Sunday show - as long as she stays on ITT because no-one else can do that show. That girl is going to need lots of coffee!

What time are the celebs being revealed on Weds 8th? If you don't tell me I won't get any work done!

Thanks for that info Strictly Paul......am liking the sound of the results show ie Claudia & Tess (look out Ant & Dec eh?) - and the fact that there is to be no dance off - AND the fact that there will be a pro dance! Glittertastic times 8-) 8-) 8-)

Don't like the sound of there not being a dance off - that has allowed the judges to save dancers with more talent who occasionally end up in the bottom. I also hate the results show being on a different night, I love Strictly but I don't think it needs to take over the whole weekend!!

  • Comment number 4.

I think it is a shame that the show is split over 2 days. The second show never retains the excitement and atmosphere of the Saturday show and feels that it's inclusion is more about ratings than what is better for the show and the viewer. I like Claudia very much so she should bring something new, but I still think Sunday is a mistake.

  • Comment number 5.

Me proposally like the result show on Sunday night it gives us two nights of Strictly.

that has allowed the judges to save dancers with more talent who occasionally end up in the bottom. - what is wrong with that.

  • Comment number 6.

Some excellent news there, as far as I'm concerned: no elimination in the first week is great; no dance off is a decision I fully support, though expect it will be controversial; and more Claudia on TV is always a good thing! I'm lukewarm about results on Sunday rather than Saturday - I hope we don't get 'spoiler' posters on the blogs, and we get the change to discuss performances and predictions here before the results show airs. Getting Strictly over-excited now!
    Chocs :-)

  • Comment number 7.

Totally agree with Glitterfairy11.... can't wait for the new season to start but would prefer a whole evening of fun rather than be having to be back at the TV again on a Sunday.... we get together as friends and enjoy the whole thing which is not possible to do 2 days running.... Shame it's still Alesha and not someone with a dance background... but the fact there is no dance off just turns it into another 'let's pretend the public are experts' malarky rather than actually hearing some interesting and informed commentary about dance.... always glad to see Claudia...

BBC, what are you doing! I used to be a devoted viewer of `Strictly` from Holland.
    But this year I´ll pass.
Axing some of the best dancers, teachers, choreographers Strictly has had the last years!
I´l really miss Ian, Lilia, Darren, Matthew and Brian. They, for me were the attraction of the show. Almost more so than the celebrities.
And why axe them? Is it because of the X/factor and their ratings?
Is it because of their age? Are you hoping to attract younger viewers?
Because if age is a problem, why not sack Bruce with his old, mostly embarrassing so called jokes. Waiting for applause after them.. He´s so full of himself. .
He´s had a good run. Now it´s time to retire.. Then maybe young viewers will start watching.
I´m really sorry that good dancers have been sent away while in my view Brucie is the problem of the drop in ratings. He makes my kin crawl brr.
In my view the BBC is and always has been striving for high, good quality programmes. But in the case of Strictly you seem to have lost it.

Msg 8 please watch this years series, or at least the first few shows to see if you can adjust to the changes (which may grow on you). As a devoted fan I'm sure it couldn't be that easy for you to give up on our wonderful Strictly :]
As for me, I'm very pleased that Claudia will be getting even more air time with being on the results on top of ITT - I absolutely love that woman!

  • Comment number 10.

I don't see what is wrong with having Strictly on two nights. This is a good change in my eyes. idon't understand why people are giving out about having the results show on a sunday night.

  • Comment number 11.

Post 8 - shame on you - has it crossed your mind that maybe these dancers wanted to leave to pursue other projects. Strictly takes up a lot of time and leaves little time for other projects and pursuits. I am sure that everyone will be saddened by the lost of some of our favourite dancers, but they have their own lives.

I have no problems at all with Strictly being on every night of the year, never mind the week.

Leave Brucey alone too as he is one of our longest lasting TV celebs and he has proved his worth time and time again. It is clear to me that you do not understand the general love for dear old Brucey, most of us in the UK have grown up with Bruce on the box and keep a soft spot in our hearts for him, unlike many countries, we do not reject people because they ahve a few wrinkles and grey hairs - Bruce is a living legend and deserves his spot in the limelight - he has worked hard for it.

  • Comment number 12.

Will miss Ian and Darren - two really good teachers who try and get the best out of their celebs. The new dancers last year were more interested in using Strictly as a vehicle for their own talents.

Claudia is a great new addition to the show - her quirky style may offend the purists but she is less vanilla than Tess.

  • Comment number 13.

I will miss the pro's that have left, but the new ones look fine to me, and the girls from last were fantastic.

  • Comment number 14.

    Ok... excited much!!!

LOVE CLAUDIA ... so am so happy she is doing sunday ...

and results show means we get something SCD 7 days a week! Yesssss....

    and calm. :P

  • Comment number 15.

    But.... will miss Lilia!!

At least we still have Darren ... kinda.

  • Comment number 16.

Another year of pointless fiddling about with a great show. Forcing out some of the best dancers and no dance off. The dance off was one of the few welcome innovations. There was logic to it. There is no logic to stopping it.

But there is one change most strictly fans would welcome that has not happened. We are still lumbered with annoying Alisha Dixon. The public are the amateur judges, the panel should be professionals.

  • Comment number 17.

Time for Bruce to go, hopefully this is the start of his retirement.
His jokes are cringingly awful and he can barely present anymore. I can barely watch the show with him on it - something remedied last year when Claudia replaced him. I LOVED that show and watched the whole thing and enjoyed it all.

All right so some people (people over 60 possibly) remember him fondly from days of yore but when I speak to all my friends - I'm 17 - they all say the same thing; Bruce is awful.
Its the reason I watched X Factor (which I'd never done before) last year instead of strictly which I merely drifted in and out of. Bruce really got to me in last years series for some reason. I can't see myself watching the saturday shows to much this year either, I will watch results with Claudia and Tess however.

Please BBC, make series 2011 the year of Tess and Claudia.

  • Comment number 18.

I agree with GeorgeRobo. How much have BBC taken on by reading even some of the comments on last year's messageboard? Not much by the looks of it.

I will be recording Saturday's show and skipping through it. I don't like a separate show on the Sunday. Sunday will be my Strictly Night. Quick flick through of the dancing and settle back to watch Tess and Claudia with the results.

GeorgeRobo - I am 60 and don't remember Bruce fondly!! Never my sort of entertainer. Do remember my mum liking him. So perhaps 90+ age range still like him!

Love Love Claudia and so pleased to be seeing more of her. Love her humour.

  • Comment number 19.

I agree with Colin message 16, Alesha again when we are the amateur judges.
It should be a pro such as Darcy, Lionel Blair, Wayne Sleep that kind of pro. I like Alesha but not as a judge. The BBC has not listened to any comments from last year.

  • Comment number 20.

    14 couples - good move.

No elimination in week one - good move.

Claudia hosting results show - good move.

Results on Sunday - Bad move...I, for one, will get the results from other message boards and reclaim one day a week for myself!

  • Comment number 21.

I'm so pleased that so many people are thinking along the same lines as me, why do we bother to give our opinion if no-one is going to take any noitce?
Bruce makes me cringe as well, he's had his day, why try to inflict him on a new generation that clearly DO NOT WANT HIM?
Bruno makes my skin crawl as well these days, and Aleshia is not a judge, has no credentials to be a judge, admit it BEEB, she's eye-candy, put there to glitter in the hopes that she can compete with the likes of Danni Minogue & Cherl Cole, the only real difference is Danni & Cheryl are well qualified to do that job, Alesha isn't and it's annoying. If we can't have Lilia dancing, why not have her judging, beautiful, talented and qualified she'd get more respect than bimbo Alesha.
Please listen to your viewers BBC, most of us want to see Strictly carry on for a few more years yet but we need to be entertained and, who knows, ITV may come up with something better to watch than the pointless X-Factor.

  • Comment number 22.

I never did get the Sunday show, since it's recorded on Saturday. So no votes can be cast Sundays. I've never had a urgent desire to know the result before a Sunday show and have always been happy to wait for the broadcast to find out. As far as I'm aware the result it on the internet almost as soon as the result is recorded.

I'm not even saying I'm against a Sunday show bearself, I just would just be interested for definitive reasons why the results are given on another day. Interested I say, not demanding.

I can guess. Maybe there is a big drop off of viewers for a show late on Saturday night, mainly from younger viewers who have early bedtimes and it is thought that these young viewers constitute such a large an important section of the viewers that we have a second show at a time more suitable for them. Or maybe because a large section of the audience are twentysomethings and they disappear out for Saturday and Sunday night and they wouldn't see and later show on those days. Or is it really elderly viewers nodding off before 10pm in their armchairs?

I've produced and directed stuff and I can imagine what my answers may be if someone came up to me and said why did you do that. In fact thinking about it I have had. I'm pretty sure, that after be certain they weren't just being antagonistic or about to regale me with their vision of what I should of done, I do usually tell them. It's gives me a chance to play to the audience after spending the whole show mooching behind the scenes as I'm 'only the producer'. Don't they know I'm the real star!?!

  • Comment number 23.

Wonderful new that Claudia will be on the screen more and is now doing the Sunday show with Tess - Can't wait - she is a really origial talent

  • Comment number 24.

i dont mind there being a sunday show, i missed it last year if i am honest.they have made some good moves this year, but made some bad ones as well.and why is karen hardy not on the panal this year.

  • Comment number 25.

I was so thrilled to know strictly was back and I have never missed a series But not so sure I want to see this one. As some of the pro's are not there!!!!! I have to agree with Liduine get Lilia as a judge or Karen Harding to replace Alesha PLEASE!!!! They know what they are talking about!!! The new male pro's will have to be careful of there facial expressions after whatching on Saturday. Craig needs to give them a talking to!!!!!
PS What about an all male panel and lets have Mathew or Ian. Or how about one of them hosting it instead of Bruce

  • Comment number 26.

i am so glad that there is somthing good on saturday nite again.been so bored.not any more

  • Comment number 27.

Ever so pleased SCD about to start. Enjoyed the Launch Show and the intro to the new dancers. Sorry though that we've lost the lovely Matt, Ian and Darren being matched with celebrities - it's been interesting each year to see how they bond with and approach teaching their diverse celebrities.
But most of all I'll miss the lovely unique Lilia - she's been my favourite since series 2 and is a fabulous choreographer. But I'll be brave - and I'm sure Strictly Fever will take over my life as it does every year. Bring it on!!

  • Comment number 28.

No dance off ensures Anne Widdecombe will win. All she has to do is not book an early holiday or get an injury. The great British public will do the rest.
