Springwatch team Flickr favourites
Spring has truly sprung and anticipation grows here in Springwatch Towers as filming starts and your pictures flood in to the Springwatch Flickr group.
The team have kindly taken a few moments today to choose their favourites. Martin even popped his head around the door to join us.
This snowdrop and its visitor by Andy Richardson caught my eye because what scene better heralds the start of spring?
The Specials team loved Bob Smith's chaffinch because the interesting angle looks like he's dancing.
The Webbies think this picture of a busy home builder by Maggie epitomises early spring and is a unique capture.
Simon's Squad spotted this basking adder pictured by Kerry, which they said they liked as it's often an unexpected herald of spring.
Producer Holly chose this long tailed tit by Edward Nurcombe. It's her favourite bird, not least because they regularly visit her garden a lot at the moment.
Springwatch's Management Menagerie adored this cheeky blue tit by Theresa Gunn.
Level-Headed Joe thought this crow by Steve Maskell showed a lovely bit of spring behaviour in brilliant composition.
And finally Martin Hughes-Games picked this fox by Lorna Griffiths, saying that if he had to come back as an animal in a later life he'd choose a fox!
Which of these catches your eye and why? Tell us below.
As always we'd love to know how spring is unfolding where you are, so add your spring pictures to the Springwatch Flickr group and tell us what's going on in your neck of the woods.

Great set of photos. Will Kate be getting any time off after Lambuing Live or is she straight from there into Spriingwatch?
After watching Gordon's films of the Chipshop Family, coming back as a fox looks far too much like hard work. I think I'd prefer to get reincarnated as one of our lurchers - food, exercise, and the other 22 hours of every day relaxing on comfy sofas sounds like the next life for me!

Super set of photos. I like the adder, but wouldn't want to get too close. Hope she used a long lens for this shot.

Hi everyone
Sfmans - There's some filming going on at the moment so the presenters are around every now and then. We haven't seen Kate in the office recently, although she could be out filming.
Stevejm - if you click on the photo it will take you to Kerry's adder image on Flickr and you can ask her by commenting on the photo there. We hope she used a long lens too!
Great to hear about your frogspawn Brian - Lucky you! Keep an eye out for newts as well!
Sam

It's so hard to choose one of the photos, they are all so beautiful. I do have a heart for foxes and crows and the tits are adorable, but in the end I think I prefer the dancing chaffinch. It really shows how I feel now the sun comes out...

Frog spawn seen in our pond 19th March, in Essex (11 days later than last year.) Not so many frogs though, but lovely to hear them croaking and going about their business. Sign of Spring at last.

Having just done the first real bit of gardening and having filled our brown bin to overflowing I was surprised to see a Robin hopping in and out of the top. It quickly became apparent that the Robins are building their nest in the bin! Fabulous to watch and can't wait until we can hear the little cheeps! Mummy bird is busy eating and shooing all other birds out of the garden whilst dad works hard building. Council been great and have offered to take garden rubbish in bags until they chicks have hatched.

Ten feet from my windows, there's a very busy lady blackbird who's made the most perfect (well, what's perfect??) nest in a fireberry bush, right next door to the feeding station. Which of course is now abandoned by all the tits and robins due to her territorialism (terrorism??) Ah well. She enjoys my home made fat balls (never saw a blackbird hanging from the basket until this year), but I guess I'll just have to ditch the peanuts and seeds until she's done with the nest, because no-one else will get to use them once the babies come, I'm pretty sure! Looking forward to it!

has anyone noticed an increase of jay's? i haven't seen one for about 10 years and then all of a sudden i've had 3 in my back garden this winter (i know it was because of the lack of food elsewhere) but it was still nice to see.....corvids are my favourite birds

You are going to find this hard to believe, I could hardly believe it myself but I live in the far north of Scotland (Highlands) and yesterday 25 March 2010 I heard a cuckoo. This is the first time I have ever heard one before May and I had to stop to listen to make sure I wasn't hearing things. My friend who was with me also heard it.

I'm so glad you like my dancing chaffinch picture, it just shouted spring! to me when I took it.
A few nights ago I thought I could hear roadmen drilling the road some distance away with a pnematic drill, then it dawned on me it was a frog or toad calling, I made a small pond a few years ago its only 1Mtr * 2 Mtrs today I see it was not in vein and a clump of spawn is floating in the pond :) I'm so delighted. I live in the Edinburgh area so its been very cold this year for wild life, its great to know I'm helping a little.

Wow, the photos are really outstanding! The adder is detailed you see right into his eye and see that it is clearly a vertical pupil. Amazing. Can we get any of the specs for each of the shots, lens etc...? No doubt spring is finally here!
Thanks

Am totally devastated, my lady blackbird has abandoned her lovely nest - its just a bit to high up for me to see in the base, but after I was sure she'd been gone for two or more hours, I had a tip-toe "firkle" and there were at least two eggs in there - she was out of reach of cats, and there's not very much in the way of human traffic (as a general rule) out there....
What could have caused her (apart from natural/predatory causes) to leave a clutch??

Hi everyone
Lovely to hear your signs of spring!
Hevs we can't think of anything to explain this besides what you've suggested but perhaps the RSPB would know more. They have experts on hand to answer your questions by phone or email: http://www.rspb.org.uk/contactus/
Hope this helps!
Sam :)

Hello everyone,
This is the first time we have posted a comment on this site.
We have recently seen otters on the Leeds Liverpool canal in the Chorley (Lancashire)area. We last saw one in February, has anyone else spotted Otters in this area?
